Hardcore Mode: Is it permanent?

Once you go with Hardcore mode can you ever revert back to regular arcade mode? Can you go back and forth between them?

 

How is the driving different in hardcore? Specifics please.

Yes you can go back and forth, hardcore mode appears under the "Continue Game" button on the main menu.

 

Basically hardcore mode reduces gravity and gives less grip hence a more realistic, less arcade feeling to driving. See below.

Yea Hardcore Mode has been an option for me since sometime last year but I was always afraid to try it an not able to go back to more arcade regular mode.
