August 28, 2009 - Rockstar Games had Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony on display at this week's GameCrazy event in Las Vegas. Forum poster WWKD05 was able to go hands-on with the game briefly and tried out two missions.

For one, Luis Lopez, the main character, had to take control of a new helicopter, armed with a machine gun and RPG launcher. Players then must destroy a yacht and several smaller boats. The other involves Luis jumping out of a helicopter and parachuting on top of a nearby building ready to be infiltrated. Players were also given a variety of new weapons, including a smaller, automatic rifle, a turret-size machine gun, and satchel charges.

Rockstar is unveiling a new trailer on Tuesday, September 1, so hopefully we'll be given more details then.

So far we're getting a new chopper and some new weapons... but hopefully this time there will be some cooler new vehicles.

The new bikes were good last time, but the gun van and tow truck were lame.

Sky diving looks like it could be real fun though... imagine the shoot outs we'll be having in multiplayer now.

UPDATE #1

New details from XBox World (UK) preview.

  • The episode will contain about 20 missions, just as The Lost and Damned did
  • The HUD is again modified to fit the feel of the game--"Parma Violet-style pink/purple"
  • Missions are scored out of 100%, dependent on your performance. All missions can be re-played at any time to improve your scrore.
  • 3 nightclubs are accessible--Bahama Mamas, Hercules and Maisonette 9
  • The golf course behind Algonquin's Memory Lanes bowling alley is now open, where a new golfing minigame is available to play.
  • New websites have been added to the in-game internet
  • New vehicle: "Super Drop Diamond"--based on a Bentley Continental convertible
  • New random character mission takes Luis on a race to disarm a car bomb, armed by one of his "mental ex-girlfriends"
  • Four new missions previewed: "Dropping In..." , "For The Man Who Has Everything" , "Going Deep" and "Sexy Time".

The preview also featured four new screenshots, one of which proves the Maisonette 9 nightclub to be a near-exact replica of NYC nightclub Bungalow 8.

The PS3 definitely won't be getting these 2 DLC.

The PC is possible because M$ have control of that too... but its very doubtful.

There is DLC coming later that will be available on all platforms.

Its fair too assume that they will be bigger and better than what is for 360 only, as R* will make more money form them. :)

OP updated. :)

The new mission score system looks like it could be pretty cool. Especially as you can replay to better you score!

Also the new golf course minigame will be fun.

Can't wait to drive the Bentley Conti' convertible... will be amazing if it has a working roof (although its doubtful).

New details added to OP.

An interesting quote here. Especially the last paragraph:

The Ballad of Gay Tony takes you into the more respectable realm of the criminal underworld. Everyone you meet is a whole lot richer than what you've seen in GTA IV (and quite a bit crazier). They live well and do not go gentle into that good night. This means some new interiors, including a trio of nightclubs, where Luis can practice his club management. This new set of mini-games wasn't shown to me, but the tasks include getting the party started on the dance floor, a champagne drinking minigame, and dealing with the unruly clientele.

Expect a lot more choppers.

The highlight for many is going to be the addition of base jumping challenges. Spread across Liberty City, base jump challenges come in two types. One has you guiding yourself through a series of rings and landing in the correct spot. The control is simple and sensible. You can tug left or right on the chute to maneuver, lift your legs for acceleration or hold yourself out straight to slow your descent. The other base jumping game I played has you attempting to land on the back of a moving target truck. Base jumping tasks are good fun and bring back a little of that San Andreas feel, which I'm sure many will appreciate.

The Ballad of Gay Tony brings the GTA IV saga to a close and Rockstar wanted to go all out for the finale. From what I've played, it seems they've done just that. The Ballad of Gay Tony is an action-heavy, explosion-filled episode that could just leave Liberty City in rubble.

From what I've heard this could possibly be the last ever DLC for GTA4 period.
