Gaming and the state of it

I think I can say that gaming has affected the lives of us in a good way. But I think that the gaming has gotten WORSE over the years. Here's why.

 

First, greed. Now that money in the industry has taken shape, I've seen developers have sold out quality for cold cash. *cough MW2 cough"

 

Second, graphics. Why are we putting a big emphasis on eye candy? Graphics NEVER make games good. Gameplay does.

 

Third, is innovation. Innovation is good, but this console generation, its becoming too much. You don't need a gamechanging mechanic to make a game good.

 

*And before I get people posting "Why play games?" This is MY opinion.*

I agree. In recent years it's become VERY hard for me to find a game I actually enjoy. Now I've even started to just go for graphics sometimes, simply because it's better than buying a modern crap game with no graphics.

I agree that a lot of companies do put an emphasis on money nowadays and it's shame really. And some games don't fulfill their potential because of this but hey, it happens with just about any business.

 

With the graphics I sorta agree with you but films are similar in a way. People just like shiny things, like me but I don't mind if the games don't look good, just as long as they play well and are enjoyable.

 

There are quite a few new innovative ideas in games but imo most of them fail because people don't like change. Look at CoD for example, the last three CoD games have been exactly the same apart from looks, they all play exactly the same even though they are made by two different studios. If they changed how it worked and tried new things, they'd lose custom. Kinda ties in with your first point about money.

The 90's were almost the Renaissance of gaming, really. Anyone remember Doom on PS1? Powerslave? Vigilante 8? Those games were one of the many games that made the 90's great?

Well, one thing I can say is in 10 years, we'll know if 3D gaming actually made it or not.

Gaming died this console generation, IMO.
