StarGT and his dodgy websites?

As you know most of the mods out there go to StarGT's website(s) .. I dont like shaming people or making up stories that are false, in this case it is not, and im seriously sick of the lalalala and hoop jumps to get his mods .. at first it was fine, but now its just ad after ad.

For exampe his latest mod that his posted up .. http://forum.turboduck.net/threads/31904-StarGT-VRS-2012-BMW-X5M-Tuned?p=545767#post545767 ..

Clicking on said link .. has a 80% chance of opening up tabs of ads that lead to different places. Once you finally get to where the said mod is .. and click it .. it goes to some russian download place. As i have shown in the picture below .. the file name says it is a (rar) file .. in fact it is a {exe} .. and not to mention a virus hit .. whether it is a false positive like cracks for ripped games or not isnt the case im trying to make.

Surely I am not the only one sick of this.

End rant.

_update_

whether i click the right or wrong link on that page, doesnt change the fact that one link still led to the virus hit. I was informed that clicking one link will give the rar file and the other would give the exe. As if any normal person after a simple car mod would know that when the link provides two download options.

Yes we have noticed, we're just waiting on the admin to get out of the bath :bath:

Continue to report any posts that link to malicious or pornaographic sites and we will deal with it. If you're reading this Star, now would be a great time to change your hosting provider because we really are fed up with this.

Avoid this is very easy - don't download his mods.

Yes but his mods (or any other modder's mods for that matter) keep this game alive for many... do you want the TDU2 mod community to die? Because someone is trying to run a silly advertising-with-mods operation to that's harmful to many downloaders? The "very easy" solution is for StarGT to stop being a complete arse in the way he releases mods, regardless if its his work and release mods on this site, with simple mediafire links and realise modding is a hobby and petty advertising deals for mods is absolutely stupid.

The rules currently in place state that

* You may not link to a pornographic website

* You may not link to a website that requires registration to download the desired mod.

Mediafire would be a great choice for hosting mods.

Us staff don't play TDU2 let alone mod it so we often rely on users of the mod shop to report breaches of the rules, but will occasionally do random checks.

I complained about not long after my arrival and got ignored.
You were not ignored, we looked into and blocked the sites you and others reported as throwing up inappropriate pop-ups, locking the browser or opening prohibited content in new windows and tabs.

We contacted StarGT with the reason for doing this along with proof to show why it was done to which he respectfully accepted.

i agree with U, includes rules !!! That all modders download their mods only to mediafire or mega
We have been considering adding a download whitelist where only downloads from a certain amount of approved and trusted sites would be allowed to be posted. This of course relies on people obeying this otherwise we would need to remove certain privileges Modders currently hold and even go so far as needing to Moderate/Approve every thread that is posted to make sure it adheres to this set of guidelines.

If you and others can do this then there is no reason this cannot work.

I really like StarGT work and Mods, especially on the TDU2-UP, but the hassle to get a download going on those "Russian" sites is really annoying sometimes.

I also ended up one time with a "browser lock" that could only be "removed" if i would pay a certain police force, with links to a Russian site. Not to mention the countless virus alerts and ads, sigh...

Fortunately for me StarGT was kind enough to provide me with direct links a few times, but it would be a lot better if the files become available in a more accessible manner.

So thanks to StarGT for making the files available in a different way. Appreciated.

Yeh, pretty much i mean is that of course if it was a simple and easy method of just downloading the file from something easy like Mediafire .. that would be great. Deposit Files is also something that im sure majority of the people are reasonably happy using. Its just not all his mods use that hosting site. It's like maybe 3/4 that are DF, the rest are either torrents that require the download of a file that link to another site. Or russian sites like the one i posted in my OP.

Frankly speaking, if he can use DF for the majority of his mods, why cant he just use it for all of them, why complicate things using different host, coupled with the ads and redirects. Just a simple link straight to the file and done.

what does it replace? where to get? is it free? is it free of viruses on linked ad sites?

I know StarGT´s website and I complained about it a few times, but in fact, I never had ANY problem/virus warning/virus attack or anything. I know it´s hard to navigate on those Ukrainian websites, but please be fair, guys.

If there really were virus attacks or anything else, I´m sure turboduck wouldn´t allow any of his/their links.

Appreciate his work - if you don´t, just stay away from his links. Easy and simple.

Every mod which is provided for free by people, who have just fun creating those is really great and appreciated.

I just always get virus alarms on his site

I never did. And I used many of his mods. Maybe it´s depending on the anti virus software. My PC is still running, I used his mods since around 2011. ;)

Looks like you´re using "Kaspersky" - so I´m not surprised. I used Kaspersky many years ago and they are well-known, not in a positive way.

Maybe you should just optimise your PC system (w/o Kaspersky).

I remember getting a virus attack warning (malware) when using the cam hack in TDU2 a few years back. Maybe your anti virus is just set too aggressive.

My Kasperky isn't set too aggressive!

For sure I know about the alert, when starting the cam hack tool in tdu2.

And that was a very corrct warning, because the cam hack tool is manipulating a system known executable file, the TestDrive2.exe.

So nothing wrong here at all.

But on the screenshots you can see, that there programms would be downloaded auricularly, I have never started to download, twice.

And the warnings are also correct.

But, hey, it's ok.

If you think the way. it seems you are doing, I bet you are another one with a big virus slingshot, rofl.

turboduck banned my main site ( CraziieOne helped to ban )

@VanquishHH ... So .. you say that if there were virus attacks or anything, turboduck wouldnt allow it .. which im sure they would have personally checked.

Right after StarGT tells us that his main site has been banned ...

All i did was bring to the community's attention of what some people go through, i even provided proof it wasnt something i made up. Even franks has posted a page or two back of his encounters. I have nothing against his mods, they are wonderful, it is merely the methods of acquiring them that i brought to everyone's attention. If that is all that it takes for him to get banned then, how is that my fault.

What Turboduck does is their business and i never told them to ban his site.
