Pokémon Go: Have you/Will you?

:hiya:

Are you Catching 'Em All? Pokemon GO is taking the world by storm. It is in so many news headlines, it is causing record share increases at Nintendo and it isn't even released in most countries just yet, most of all Japan?!

It seems like an absolutely amazing idea, it is getting people up off of their Office Chair and out into the world trying to discover Pokémon. It is making people exercise and meet new people and it also seems quite fun at the same time? Yes there are going to be downsides, you'll hear of people getting into trouble or whatever as a result of the game but I don't think they're worth taking note of just yet.

- It already has more active users than Tinder

- It is close to reaching Twitter's figure of daily active users too

Will you be playing it once it hits your market? Will you be ordering an Ash costume from amazon? Will you be calling your girlfriend Misty in the bedroom?

No.

I am already sick to the back teeth. No, sick to all of my teeth at seeing this on Facebook and generally everywhere I look on the internet. How long before some moron walks out in front of a bus or something because they're busy messing about trying to catch a pokemon that only they can see? :fp:

I see the appeal of it to kids but adults walking around the office trying to catch them. *shakes head*

Still, a £5billion increase in company value in a few days is pretty damn impressive!

I really don't agree with you on this one. If you have 100,000,000 (hypothetical here) people playing your game of course there will be people who end up doing something stupid but is that the games fault? If you walk in front of a bus because you're looking at your phone, or you go down a dark alley at 2am and something happens, is it Nintendo's fault? At the end of the day, statistically a fair few of that 100m might die or whatever during that day anyway, I don't think the game should be criticised because of it.

If it's making people exercise and is getting people that might have otherwise been quite reclusive out of the house, is it not a great thing?

I'm not blaming the game or Nintendo. It's just an enabler for peoples inner stupid.

Just like how some people always give food to other and end up making them rather large. It's not the feeders fault that the eater can't control their own mouth. :hmmm: I just don't think we need even more people not paying attention to their surroundings but that's the players choice.

I know what I mean. >.<

I am catching em' all! It's an incredible idea. Using augmented reality to get us all to go out to parks and actually socialise with other people, not to mention exercise. I've got 7km to walk to hatch some eggs!

And while everyone else had the pokemon games on their gameboys I didn't, so I feel like I'm making up for lost times

The idea is cool st first, although I suspect some will not appreciate people loitering our acting suspiciously near their place of business or residence. I won't be trying it.

Yeah true, if they had a process in which you could blacklist your property from being involved in the game it might solve a bit of this. I'm sure there are enough places in the world for them to continue with the game in un-blacklisted places.

Yet another thing that glues people's eyes to their mobile phone screen.

I've never been into these Japanese cartoons, Nintendos, dragons, etc. so I give less than one duck.

Very good point, tho.

If you fear going to a public park... maybe you should move to a new area.

I'm thinking of other people in other areas. We've already had one young girl discover a dead body in a lake and some others lured to awaiting robbers.

But someone will have eventually found that body anyway, and those thieves will have stolen from someone eventually anyway..... Yes I get that maybe the game might be increasing the odds of that someone being you but I don't think it's increasing them that much when you look at just how many people play it. I dunno, the world sucks, I understand where you're coming from but I really don't think it's a worthy criticism of the game?

As with everything in life, if you use just an ounce of common sense, and do things in moderation, then 99.9999999% of the time, things will be absolutely fine.

And makes them get out of their home, go to a park, and play with another human being. You can't do anything just sitting on your ass at home.

Also makes them crash into other people walking on the street because they're looking at their phone screen instead of where they are going.

F'in hell.

I do not have problems going outside in nature; actually, I don't need an app to get my ass outside my home.

Which could happen either way, since the invention of the smartphone. Pokemon Go isn't at fault. And while you may regularly explore the outdoors, not everybody does. I'm speaking generally and about how Pokemon Go can encourage people who don't spend much time outdoors.

Just don't sign in with your Google account as they're getting way too much access, such as user emails.

This will be changing soon though. I think Google said that the devs haven't accessed more than the basic details they need.

Saw someone in the office playing it moments before they tripped up a step. A single step that has been in the same place for the past 15 years that they've worked in the building. Gotta say, it did give us all a good laugh. :hi5: Nintendo

The way this thing has taken over in such a short amount of time is truly unbelievable. It is getting people outside but I don't know if a big crowd of people with their premium smartphones all being gathered together is such a great idea. Outwith the safety notion though, this thing is absolutely brilliant in its simplicity and the way it has literally captured the world is amazing!
