In this series of threads, I'm listing and giving tutorials on how to improve your game-play. These are not instructions, or officially related to Atari in any way. They are tutorials created by me, for the sole purpose of giving you the chance to improve your gameplay.

I take no responsibility in your game going corupt or damaged. I cannot be help responsible for damages to game files or profiles. However this is highly unlikely to happen ;)

Make sure you back up everything, unless you want to have to reinstall TDU when you decide the car body modifications doesn't look as good.

Car Body Swaps (Lazy way of painting unpaintable cars):

This mod effectively swaps the body structure of 2 cars around, therefore allowing the colour of one car to be on another. So you could end up with a Lamborghini with an Adui TT's performance.

Make sure you back up everything, unless you want to have to reinstall TDU when you decide the paint doesn't look good.

Importnant Note

The file you're COPYING, cannot be bigger in file size, only exactly the same or smaller.

For example, if you want to get a Maserati MC12 with the colour of your Gallardo SE, you have to go to 'C:\Program Files\Atari\Test Drive Unlimited\Euro\Bnk\Vehicules' Step 1

Back-up the 'Gall_SE.bnk' and then delete the original file

Step 2

Right click the 'Mas_MC12.bnk' file and click Copy

Step 3

Paste the 'Mas_MC12.bnk' file into the same folder and rename it to Gall_SE.bnk

Start the game and see your swap. If it doesn't work or crashes the game, put your backed up Gall_SE.bnk file into the C:/Program Files/Atari/Test Drive Unlimited/Euro/BNK/Vehicules directory. If the computer asks you if you want to replace the files, click Yes. That will make your Gallardo look like a Gallardo again.

Thanks to HappyTreeFriend for the method ; desrat for alerting and Ferrari in-game picture and SLR_mates for Alfa 8C in-game picture

Rim Swapping:

This is a very simple process, and requires a bit of "trial and error". You can only replace any rim file by another which is smaller in file size (bytes).

Step 1

Find the rims you wish to move to another car (C:\Program Files\Atari\Test Drive Unlimited\Euro\Bnk\Vehicules\Rim) - and copy. [i will be placing my 'SKYGTR_F_01.bnk' Skyline rims on the 575 Maranello in this demonstration]

Step 2

Find the rims you wish to replace - paste the replacment rims into the folder and delete the original rims you wish to change [i will be deleting the '[/color]F575_M_F_01.bnk' 575 Maranello rims and copying the 'SKYGTR_F_01.bnk' Skyline rims into the Ferrari Folder]

Step 3

Rename the Copied rims to the name of the deleted (origianl) rims. [i've renamed the copied 'SKYGTR_F_01.bnk' Skyline rims to 'F575_M_F_01.bnk' (575 rims)]

And there you have it. Rims have been swapped.

Manually Changing File Colours: (Best way of painting unpaintable cars)

[imglink]http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s79/IcedBullet/Test%20Drive%20Unlimited/Mods/thf430_Car_Body_Mod.jpg[/imglink] [imglink]http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s79/IcedBullet/Test%20Drive%20Unlimited/Mods/thdtm_Car_Body_Mod.jpg[/imglink]

Make sure you back up everything, unless you want to have to reinstall TDU when you decide the paint doesn't look good.

Please note that you will have to look at the in-game names for the paint, so you know which ones to change around :)

You will need to make sure you have the .bnk un/repacker installed. you can find it here - [Download v.1]

For example, if you want to get a Orange colour for your any of your Ferrari:

Step 1

Open the Bnk File Editor

[imglink]http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s79/IcedBullet/Test%20Drive%20Unlimited/Mods/Bnk_1-1.jpg[/imglink]

Step 2

Click Open and navigate to C:/Program Files/Atari/Test Drive Unlimited/Euro/BNK/Database Then Open the file relevant to your play. so for me, I will open DB_US, as I play the English/american Version of TDU. If you're playing the French version/language, open the DB_FR etc.

Step 3

This is exactly what you should see (regardless of your version of TDU):Now, Click on 'TDU_CarColours' and then once that is selected, then on 'Extract File'

[imglink]http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s79/IcedBullet/Test%20Drive%20Unlimited/Mods/Bnk_2-1.jpg[/imglink]

Step 5

Navigate to C:/Program Files/Atari/Test Drive Unlimited/Euro/BNK/Database and open the folder which has just been created. for me, it was DB_US. Inside this folder, there should be a file called 'TDU_CarColours.us'. Open this in NotePad or WordPad.

[imglink]http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s79/IcedBullet/Test%20Drive%20Unlimited/Mods/Bnk_3-1.jpg[/imglink]

Step 6

To make the Ferraris (painted in Nero Black paint), into Orange, I will change the line '{N_F01} 54066127' to '{N_F01} 56066127' and the line '{O_01} 56066127' to '{O_01} 54066127'. In otherwords I am swapping the numbers of the and the Black Paint code over.

Note that the 'N_F' relates to the colour Nero Black and the car manufacture Ferrari, and O stands for Orange :p

[use this Colour Chart for Colour Code References!!]

*************

IMPORTANT, you MUST actually swap the colours over, not just copy and replace one of them. Otherwise TDU will not start.

*************

Step 7

Save this file.

Step 8

Back in the Bnk File Editor, select 'TDU_CarColours' and click on 'Replace File'. Navigate to C:/Program Files/Atari/Test Drive Unlimited/Euro/BNK/Database and open the folder where the 'TDU_CarColours.us' has been saved.

[imglink]http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s79/IcedBullet/Test%20Drive%20Unlimited/Mods/Bnk_4-1.jpg[/imglink]

Step 9

Click 'OK' on the following warning message.

[imglink]http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s79/IcedBullet/Test%20Drive%20Unlimited/Mods/Bnk_5-1.jpg[/imglink]

Step 10

Click 'Save Bnk' and now, the changes should apply when you next start TDU up.

Guest RB26DETT

excuse me mr. bullet. i have a question. do the body swaps only work offline? because i downloaded a LP640 body and rims and whenever i load up tdu, i get a message saying "the network connection was lost" right after i enter my garage.

it's just weird that i've been playing tdu the whole day with no problems, and now after putting those files, i get this network error?!?!? wtf!?!?!?

Hmm. I don't know. I havn't had this error online as of yet. I shall try it later. Just switch back to default for now. Mybe () Atari have updated their server secruity :( now that would annoy me if they have. You sure you put it in the correct folder ... ? I can't remember off the top of my head ... but is that .bnk file the correct name for the murcielago ?? I don't remember if you have to remane it. I doubt it, but it could be a possibilty.

E: Hang on, brain wave. When you switched the Murcielago rims, make sure you replace the original ones which are larger than the downloaded ones.
