Yeah... A few people had that. I haven't ever modded the tyres at all. Extract the (ws)plate.2db files and stick them into a fresh common_car.bnk

Apologies for that

I did that (properly) and the game crashes after a few secs after loading.

1) I took a fresh Common_car.bnk

2) opened BnkFileEditor

3) opened ur modified Common_car.bnk

4) extracted the 2 files - a) ws_plate.2db b) plate.2db

5) opened a fresh Common_car.bnk

6) replaced ws_plate.2db and plate.2db with ones extracted from yr moddified Common_car.bnk

7) saved bnk

8) launched TDU

9) the game crash

10) did 1) - 7) three times

11) game still crashes

12) got back the red tires :P

Hummmm... I think I've got it.

New plate.2db and ws_plate.2db files are slightly bigger than the ones which were replaced.

So if BnkFileEditor is used to put them into the BNK back, these two files will be truncated to fit - it's not a good thing as important data will be erased at the end of these files. That could lead to various bugs (including corrupted textures and game crashes).

I'm going to tell once more:

If new 2db files are bigger than original, please use a tool able to enlarge the BNK, so that your 2db will remain OK. If you wanna keep using Jeff Harris BnkFileEditor, you should ensure file size is less or equal than the original ones.
