TIMELESS got a reaction from Milli in E3 2018 [megathread]
It's (almost) that time of the year again folks. E3 Games Expo 2018 begins with conferences starting on Saturday, June 9th, then opens to the public on Tuesday, June 12th. Here's what we've got to look forward to:

Saturday 9th June
Electronic Arts [11am PT | 2pm ET | 7pm BST]
Kicking off E3 with the EA conference, we can expect to see the latest instalment of their EA Sports franchises such as FIFA, Madden, NHL, etc, as well as a new
, and the addition of some new IPs such as Anthem from BioWare.

Sunday 10th June
Microsoft [1pm PT | 4pm ET | 9pm BST]
Next up we have the Microsoft conference, which will be held next door to E3 because it's damn popular to fit in the LA Convention Center.. seriously. We can expect, as usual, a new Forza announced, Halo, Gears of War, and possibly a return of the Fable franchise if the rumours are true.

Bethesda [6:30pm PT | 9:30pm ET | 2:30am BST]
It looks like we can expect to see a new AAA title from Bethesda, a return of Elder Scrolls or more likely an expansion for Elder Scrolls Online, and some new DLC content for existing games. Oh.. and a NEW FALLOUT

Monday 11th June
Square Enix [10am PT | 1pm ET | 6pm BST]
After the rousing success of Tomb Raider, it looks like we'll be getting a preview of the sequel, Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Final Fantasy fans can also look forward to seeing the remade FF7.

Ubisoft [1pm PT | 4pm ET | 9pm BST]
Ubisoft will continue to kick a dead horse build upon its legacy with additions to their long running franchises Assasin's Creed and Tom Clancy (The Division 2) and returning Beyond Good & Evil which is almost as old as I am. Maybe some more footage of The Crew 2?

Sony [6pm PT | 9pm ET | 2am BST]
Don't expect to see the PlayStation 5 just yet, the PS4 has got a few years left in it yet, but there will be plenty to look forward to such as Marvel's Spiderman and The Last of Us Part 2.

Tuesday 12th June
Nintendo [9am PT | 12pm ET | 5pm BST]
Finishing off the conferences will be Nintedo's video presentation highlighting the upcoming Smash Bros for the Switch and a few other titles coming to the Switch such as Pokemon (we hope), new Kirby and Yoshi games, and perhaps a new Animal Crossing.

Hey all, I have been taking time out to explore new avenues and also enjoying the recent bout of decent weather that's been here the last few days. And I, like many of you, was surprised to hear that the :duck: again has a new owner. However, I don't think it has been in better hands! From what @Diablo has told me and the direct approach to the members of the community itself through this topic, I feel like, even though it's cliché to say, that the duck can really fly under their direction. Hearing that they themselves have a community that has been going on a while and also that they have proper development credentials really does bode well in many areas. As let's face it, that was an area I always scraped by in. The site and forum did use to play nice together, with a working SSO between the previous board software and WordPress but again it was my lack of writing worth that made that start to fall by the wayside. We did have good people who contributed a piece here and there but again the drive in them was lost and was left to me, and I hate that I couldn't do it, in fact, I found it a real struggle. And it was this that led me to upgrading to Xenforo as the benefits to the community of that outweighed the negatives for me. Even though I had to mad scientist together something that made WordPress recognise the visitor as a member and at what level. I really live by trial and error! A chatbox is a cool thing to have on a community but when people start to take it for granted and use it in ways it isn't meant to be then it becomes troublesome. Part of the reason for passing on turboduck for me was for someone to come in with no sense of loyalty or emotional attachment, and turn things around in this area. I really like the changes and improvements that are planned and hope that I can, in time, get involved more too.

My heart's broken to read this, but I completely understand and respect your decision. Thank you for your years of service to the duck, it's been a great ride. This place has been like my digital home, I grew up here from a PITA 14yo to a (PITA) grown-ass 23yo, along the way making friends and memories that I cherish. Jumping on XBL with you crazy lot is still one of my best times from my teenage years.

Don't disappear on us now, D.. or should it be Andy now? lol

I Am Leaving But This Is Not Goodbye After more than 11 years of being the admin and owner of this here community I have decided that it is time to fly the virtual nest (wait, do ducks have nests?) and hand control over to someone else who can really make the :duck: fly! (harhar, me do pun) It’s been an amazing amount of time and a hell of an experience being the main muppet of this place and I will miss some of the behind the scenes work. And it still amazes me that I have watched a number of members here grow up and mature, going from being punk kids who hate school to becoming adults and moving on with their lives. Some of you have even confided in me how finding this place benefited you in ways I could never imagine which was extremely humbling. I have also met some of you incredible in real life. Getting to travel with that crazy lot down to Namco Bandai Partners in London was superb. Every one of them was a real character and a barrel of laughs. Hopefully, we’ll get to meet up some time again guys!! Meeting people for real is generally a rare thing with online communities, and even though the vast majority of those I have interacted with on here have been only through text or chat in a game, I do consider a number of them friends who I would very much like to meet. It may sound weird, but those times where we all jumped on to play a few hours of whatever game gave the same feeling and sense of enjoyment as meeting up with my mates for a drink at the pub. In the sense that the banter was flowing and so were plenty of jokes. And of course a good amount of these times had alcohol present! :D From humble beginnings to becoming a known name in certain gaming circles, and in such, getting noticed by the people behind them. Resulting in being able to get to know and meet Mr Nadal and all of Eden Games, Lee ‘Pizza & Games’ Kirton formerly of Atari and now Namco Bandai Partners, and having back and forth conversations with sterling community managers such as Soufyane and Natchai at Ubisoft. There are probably more but my stupid memory cannot remember who they are. Last but not least I come to all of you guys, the members. Whether you are someone who shares their excellent in-game or real life images and video, a modder putting out good stuff for the community to use with their game, or just simply a chatty sod. Know that I have enjoyed seeing all sorts here. I wish I could say more and be more epic with this but you all know how terrible I am at this sort of thing. So, I will say my goodbyes but rest assured I am not leaving, I will still be around, but not in an official capacity, and in a funny way this will actually not only help me, but also help this place as the new boss can surely give it what I wasn’t able to. I got a bit of time as one of the better members to show the new boss around and give them the wealth of my experience (oh boy) before I become one of you scum. And so with that, all I have left to say is... smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast! Cheers! Diablo (former community Admin & Owner) So.. uh what? Q: Who is the new owner of turboduck on tduck? A: The new owner is now in control and uses the @Diablo account. Q: Who is Diablo now then? A: Diablo, as they used to be, is now under the @insaneone username. Q: Will Diablo still be around? A: Of course they will, but as @insaneone as this is who they are now (and has always been! :cheeky:). Q: Why did Diablo leave? A: They haven't left, they are now known as @insaneone and so is still here. As much as the original Diablo loved this place, they knew it was time to pass it on so that the :duck:'s future could be preserved.

[headline]tduck v3 - Xenforo[/headline]
Many many moons ago, we started life as Test Drive Unlimited Central and not before long did we realise that name is waaaaaaaaaaayyy tttoooooo long and so it was shortened to TDU Central, which then became even shorter to TDUC where the pronunciation of Tee Dee Yoo See became shorter still to tduck. And this is where we are at today.

Over the time since we first began from day one with vBulletin 3, we migrated to vBulletin 4 which was for better or worse, you decide, the next version of our community and now, a lot longer than I wanted it to be, we reach a new chapter in our history by hitting version 3 by switching over to Xenforo.

This modern forum will take a bit of getting used to but it shouldn't take too long to get to grips with. It's fairly user-friendly in most cases but there will be some cases where things are different and as much as I would like to repeat what gone before, the likelihood of that happening is very remote as I am too much of an idiot to mad scientist stuff together like I could before.

I'll give it a go when I can though! :)

Please feel free to comment and post about issues or any other strange gremlins and or queries you may have and I will do my best to answer and sort them. There will be a number of these at the start, as even though I have went through the settings and tested certain things, it's a given there will be things I have missed. So please, if you come across something, tell me about it.

Not to mention the huge amount of styling still needing done, along with user personalising and extra additional things like allowing Modders and such to have more edit time again.

Many thanks!

The project
I don't plan building a AAA-scaled game nor a real open-world like Forza Horizon 3 or The Crew (with a 0$ budget and a one-man sized team this isn't realistic at all).
Instead, the whole idea is to create an open-world racing game with high quality features (physics, graphics, multiplayer, gameplay, ...) and as much content as possible. I might receive help for asset creation (or might even end up setting up a Kickstarter to get a budget to hire freelance artists); I just don't know yet, this isn't my top priority right now. The most important part of the project is modding: everything is moddable. By everything I mean: graphics (models, textures, materials, ...), physics (per vehicle or per 'world'), audio, game modes, ...* The mods will either be applied on the server side or on the client side (with more or less restrictions depending on the kind of mod).

*: some stuff aren't implemented yet so I can't guarantee everything will be part of the final product

The game

Gameplay

One word: MULTIPLAYER. To put it short, there won't be any solo/offline activities (except offline free-roam). The project is still at an early stage so I can't really talk about the game modes without being a Peter Molyneux copycat (no offence to him). You should expect free roam, races, cat and mouse, car ball, CTF, user-made mods, ... I'd also like to add some aspect of TDU1 (the whole real estate thingy, car dealers, road discovery, ...). But again, I'll come back to these later.

Physics

I guess it's a matter of taste, but I think a MMO racing game should aim for semi-realistic/arcade physics. The current state of the physics is closer to arcade than simulation (since a lot of components are missing) but in the end it should be close to semi-realism.

Graphics

Nothing too out of the ordinary here, this is basically what you may find in any other game. Special attention will be paid to the car paint. As you can see in the screenshots below, there is still a lot of work to do.

Network

Another huge part of the project. Right now, the game can handle up to 24 players in the same session (with each player having a ping <100ms), using exclusively a client-server infrastructure. This should easily be upgradable considering how basic the implementation is right now (no delta compression, lame physics prediction, ...). Notice that game lobbies won't handle as many people as free-roam.

Technical Stuff
The engine is written in C++ (using C++11standard), scripts in Python and Batch, physics uses Bullet Physics; it supports Direct3D11 as graphics API. The renderer uses Forward Plus Shading, supports point/spot lights and a limited amount of area lights. The render pipeline is PBR (well as much as I can understand what PBR really mean) and uses a dynamic modular architecture (to make it short: it uses less memory and can easily be extended without rewriting a lot of code).

TIMELESS reacted to GTAMADDOG in It's another brand new year! So what do you want 2018 to be for you? (we will all fail!)
Congrats on the wedding.

I'm off to Norway (Bergen) in March for a short break, always wanted to go to Norway as I'm not particularly fussed about warm weather and sun and the place is just so picturesque pretty much everywhere you go. Plan to look at Bergen itself, some WW2 artillery placements that the Germans put up and naturally a fjord or two. First holiday I've had outside of the U.K. since 2010, so it's long overdue.

I also potentially have a job interview on Thursday to do something completely different to the office work I've been doing the last eight years (kind of bored of it so GG to two years in college studying pretty much everything to do with computers). Flexible hours so I can commute outside of rush hour, half days on a Friday, no telephones and most importantly for me now that I really want to move out there's a fairly decent pay increase. Only downside is it's a few extra miles each way on my already 25 mile (each way) commute, but I may be able to car share one or two days a week, we'll have to see.

If the above all pans out nicely then I may finally be getting my own home which is something I've wanted for a few years now.

No actual new year's resolutions though :)

On Friday I took my girlfriend to the Royal Botanic Gardens near the city center and proposed to her while enjoying a relaxing punt ride (like a gondola) on a lake in the garden, while two of our best friends were secretly taking photos. Everything went perfectly to plan. She yes, after wiping away a few tears. We eventually stopped kissing and the 4 of us had a lovely dinner followed by watching 'The Mountain Between Us' at the outdoor Moonlight Cinema in those same gardens. After taking everyone else home I didn't get back to my place until 3am but that didn't spoil one of the most wonderful days I've ever had. My previous post was before all of this happened, so now I am officially engaged.
