  1. TRAPPIST-1 system:

    trappist-1-1-PIA21421.jpg

    - The system is 40 lightyears away; with current rocket technology, it would take 1,5 million years to get there.

    - The star is roughly the size of Jupiter and can live over a thousand times longer than our sun.

    - The star is a red dwarf - this planetary system discovery is 'shocking' because almost 75% of the stars in the Milky Way are red dwarfs... you do the math on habitable exoworlds.

    - The system is so compact that it should be compared to the Jovian system than the solar system: even the outmost planet is closer to the star than Mercury is to the sun.

    - There are 7 planets orbiting the star, all rocky and not much larger or smaller than Earth (density 60<>117% of Earth), and 3 of them are within the habitable zone.

    - It is named after its discovery tool, the Transiting Planets and Planetesimals Small Telescope (TRAPPIST) in Chile, but considering a Belgian guy found them, they like to say it's named after trappist beer and the planets will be named after beers.

  2. Codemasters Chief Game Designer Paul Coleman recently took to reddit to conduct a question and answer session with fans and confirmed that DiRT 4 will take a more subdued approach compared to earlier titles. Coleman states “The game will feel more professional in feel and we are not planning on having a Dudebro vibe

  3. Apparently the loss has been 15 billion dollars in the past 17 years. They háve finally started making attractive cars, but the German labour is expensive, Korean competition for the same buyer group is very strong and the Brexit made the whole package worth 400 million dollars less. If the Brexit wouldn't have happened, Opel would have reached break-even. Rumours are PSA wants Opel because of GM's EV-tech.

  4. Porsche Center Brisbane has leaked the Cayman will get a GT4 RS limited edition:

‘Due to high demand, a GT4 RS is on it’s way – with more power and a 4.0L flat-six engine, this limited model will turn heads.’

In the mean time, PSA has confirmed negotiations have started on taking over Opel from GM, which imo is a good thing because GM has no clue what to do with Opel.... other than rebadge it 6 times across the globe.

And this is the open-top Pagani exotic-wind:

  5. 2018-toyota-supra-brochure-not-confirmed.jpg

One of the pages of the brochure spills the beans about the technical specifications, such as the Supra’s dimensions: 4380 mm (172 inches) long, 1830 mm (72 inches) wide, 1280 mm (50 inches) tall, and with a wheelbase stretching at 2470 mm (97 inches). Depending on version, the new Supra will weigh between 1,350 and 1,430 kilograms (2,976 and 3,152 pounds) and will be available with 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels.

    ...

The entry-level version is going to be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine delivering 192 horsepower (143 kilowatts) and 320 Newton-meters (236 pound-feet) of torque. A stronger configuration of the same mill will up the power ante to 252 hp (188 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft). As for the range-topping model, it will use a larger six-cylinder 3.0-liter engine pushing out a healthy 340 hp (253 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft).

  6. Today was the day of a micro-forummeeting at a transmission specialist in the west of the country. We were shown a presentation and did a tour through the place while our cars were being worked on; I registered mine for a flush, not to fix an issue but to know for sure it has been done at least once now.

It was a bit exciting to get there, knowing I skipped buying winter tires (this winter it has only snowed twice on a day that I had to hit the road) and it had snowed overnight. Luckilly the roads were relatively clean so with adjusted speed I managed to get there. The presentation gave a nice overview of what they do, but the tour was a real eye-opener. They make their own tooling in order to refurbish/fix transmissions and go very far to fix the actual cause of the issue rather than smacking a replacement transmission under the car, which might save time but can still cost more than a focused fix even when it's deep inside the internals. They also work on the electronics and they have several ways of running a transmission or its components on test setups simulating the operation in a car.

Happy that I did it, and I recommend others to do this as well, even when there are no issues. I had no complaints about the car at all but the car felt even smoother during gear changes than it already used to be. Especially a true specialist company like the one I visited, ATR, also have the right equipment to do full diagnostics on the car and transmission. Definitely a morning well spent.

  7. Maybe they could have gotten away with the concept's diffusor plate thing if they wouldn't build more than 3500 of it I believe, there are exemptions regarding car design, protruding thin edges and their finishes. But ye, nobody decides to throw their image out of the window with an SUV if they won't try and sell as many as possible.

New subject btw, totally not SUV related because it is illegal to call it an SUV and most likely bus companies and house movers are in line to buy it.... Here's the new Rolls Royce:

  8. Here it is, first road-going test vehicle of the Urus. And I'm a broken record again, I'm not sure about what they've done. Especially the rear end, imo it looks odd and not as cool as the concept. It looks like a regular SUV but with a very tall rear-end bodywork, mainly because it seems the roadgoing one will lack the much-rising diffusorplate at the rear, meaning more metal going further to the road than on the concept. I'm getting instant Evoque and SsangYong feelings here. Also I'd prefer the clean roof without roofrails but I guess it's a salesmen ''customer profile'' thing that everybody with a car like this will automatically fit it with a roofbox or something.

Let's end it nicely: I'll still be following its news, pictures and await the reveal.

  9. You gotta admit... TDU2 did something right. Getting referred to sometimes on the Forza forum for things like this. I don't know that many games with animated convertible roofs (especially softtops). GTA V, NFS 5 and TDU2 and that's about it?

For FH3 it would even already be enough just to make it part of the customization (like omitting the rear wings or chrome bumpers).

  10. I heard there's a barn find, but it's exclusive to Blizzard Mountain.

I haven't bought Blizzard Mountain due to issues I've been having with car packs (i.e. every time the game updates, I lose access to more and more cars, even though I own a car pass).

I saw those claims too. But I have the car pack installed (I got all the 'regular' cars from it) yet Blizzard Mountain's map isn't showing me the barnfind. Usually I'd see it straight away going to mapmode after the update.

Also seems people found another feature that we don't have (yet?): removable convertible roofs:
