  3. GT Sport – February Content Update The latest content update for Gran Turismo Sport is LIVE and this time it drops in another twelve cars, a couple of new track layouts, additional GT League events, and more. As we got our thinking caps on with the initial reveal tweet from Kazunori Yamauchi, a number of our guesses turned out to be right. The ones we weren’t sure of however have been answered. Like what form the Subaru’s were going to be in: turning out as they are to be the wild WRX that attacked the Isle of Man last year, and the BRZ being a drifter favourite. In a rarity amongst games in 2018, Toyota road cars get an increase in their inventory number. As not only is the Supra Mk3 dished out but so is the awesome little MR2 GT-S; a fun but troublesome car to push hard. (if you get a chance, make sure to give it a try and you will see what I mean) GT Sport – February Update Cars Alpine A110 1600S ’72 (N100) Alpine A110 Première Édition ’17 (N300) Audi R8 4.2 FSI R tronic ‘07 (N400) De Tomaso Pantera ’71 (N300) Dodge Challenger R/T ’70 (N400) Ford Mustang Mach 1 ’71(N300) Gran Turismo F1500T-A (Gr.X) Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 ’11 (N700) Subaru WRX STI Isle of Man Time Attack Car ‘16 (Gr.X) Subaru Falken Tire / Turn 14 Distribution BRZ ’17 (Gr.X) Toyota Supra 3.0GT Turbo A ’88 (N300) Toyota MR2 GT-S ’97 (N200) Man, I hope that Pantera has a delicious sound! And oh yeah, there’s a fantasy old school formula car called the F1500T-A. [gallery link=file" columns="2" size="small-post-image" ids="7766,7767,7768,7769,7770,7771,7772,7773,7774,7775,7764,7757,7765] Apart from cars there’s…. ? GT League For the players who still like to enjoy some classic Gran Turismo play style with the GT League, there are three new events added. Stars & Stripes (Beginner League) Vision Gran Turismo Trophy (Amateur League) F1500 Championship (Professional League) In addition to these, new rounds for the Sunday Cup, Clubman Cup, Premium Sport Lounge and the Porsche Cup are in too. New Track Layouts There’s no new circuit environment this time, however, there are two new Infield layouts for the Blue Moon Speedway available, in both forward and reverse configurations. Anything else? Well, the Monza Circuit has been added to the “Circuit Experience”, ”Snow” has been added to the special featured section in Scapes, and if you want to see everything patch 1.13 entails then all the other tweaks and fixes can be found on the official update page to read at your leisure.
  4. GT Sport Receives Ten Awesome Cars And Monza! The full details of the 10 cars that will be arriving in GT Sport in an update this week have been revealed, and so to has the surprise bundling in of the Monza racetrack with it! And even though we sort of worked out the majority of the cars that were in the image posted on twitter by Kazunori Yamauchi last weekend, there were a few we either weren’t sure about or just didn’t know, but now with the trailer below and the accompanying stunning images, the complete list to come, and a look at their incredible in-game recreations, are available for us to behold. (that Diablo GT!!) Avid fans of Gran Turismo will recognise that all of these are returning cars and have been in past releases, however, unlike some other games out there, Polyphony Digital will go to extraordinary levels when bringing the next generation of car models to their latest. And as annoying as it can be to hear about how long it takes to do this, the final result can not be dismissed. [gallery link=file" columns="2" size="small-post-image" ids="7657,7658,7659,7660] GT Sport January Update DLC Cars 2002 Dodge Viper GTS (N500) 1967 Ferrari 330 P4 (Gr.X) 1976 Ferrari 512BB (N400) 2006 Ford GT (N600) 1966 Jaguar XJ13 (Gr.X) 2000 Lamborghini Diablo GT (N600) 1994 McLaren F1 (N600) 1967 Toyota 2000GT (N200) 2014 Toyota FT-1 (N500) 1997 Toyota Supra RZ (N300) GT Sport Gets A New Track! As if the selection of metal being delivered in this update, which is out today, wasn’t enough, there is also the inclusion of the Monza circuit in two configurations for players to test them out on. And with a number of these vehicles being able to hit some high speeds, Monza is as good a place as any to really see what sort of numbers they can put out! [gallery columns=2" size="small-post-image" link="file" ids="7653,7654,7655,7656] A real fan favourite because of its high-speed nature and its somewhat easy to remember layout, the track is a lot more demanding than it looks. Many of us have no doubt come undone by not braking in time at the first chicane, or have put a wheel or two into the gravel and been dragged off at the final turn. It may be cliché, but Monza is most definitely one circuit that is ‘easy to learn, hard to master’. Extra Layouts for Autodrome Lago Maggiore There’s more racing lines to be learned in the way of three new additional layouts for the fictional Maggiore, with Centre, East and West in both regular and reverse versions being added. Increase in ‘GT League’ Events Four new events will also make their way into the single-player career mode of ‘GT League’, something fans will be delighted to see as the initial offerings have probably already been beaten several times by them. 5. More GT Sport DLC Cars In January A second lot of DLC cars are dropping into Gran Turismo Sport next week, according to a tweet from series supremo Kazunori Yamauchi. Sticking to their plan to add "approximately 50 cars" before March 2018, this second release carries on the immense good will of the initial 3 and 12 cars that arrived in two separate updates at the end of last year, with this further ten incoming taking us to the half-way point of that goal. What cars are coming this time? Just like before, a number of the vehicles to be included are player favourites, with some that were staunchly missed from the very beginning. This, along with other factors, gave the game a somewhat slow start, but recently they have been turning GT Sport into a must have title for racing fans on PlayStation 4. The tweet itself also included an image with silhouettes of the cars slightly distorted. And even though they’re like that, we can somewhat confidently identify a fair few of them such as the: Ferrari 330 P4, Jaguar XJ-13, Ford GT40, Dodge Viper, Lamborghini Diablo, ...and a Toyota Supra. [caption id=attachment_7641" align="aligncenter" width="800] Now this is a damn fine selection of cars.[/caption] That last one is surprising, especially when you consider that Toyota road cars have been missing from all the main racing games. (has GT Sport got exclusivity???) Speculations at those that remain are out there and you can make up your own minds and hazard a guess at them if you want. (I’m thinking like others that the third from left in row 2 is the McLaren F1) We don’t know the day of next week the update will land, but at least it isn’t going to be too long a wait. 6. [HEADLINE]20 Years Of Gran Turismo[/HEADLINE] A legend was born this day 20 years ago in Japan, with the release of a racing game called Gran Turismo. It is unreal to think how long it has been since I first sought out interviews, previews and images in magazines and scoured for mentions of it in the accompanying disc's video footage, but it has, and it is still one of the most memorable gaming experiences of my life. Kaz tweeted a pic of the Gran Turismo 20th Anniversary birthday cake! Powering my console up to hear that familiar ding and then be greeted with that masterful intro that had a remix of a top Manic Street Preachers track was a sight to behold. Beautifully paired up with the action going on and delivering a real racing vibe straight off the screen got you ready to race right from the moment the menu appeared. Since then, the series has had its ups and downs and it's spawned countless competitors of varying quality but one thing that cannot be denied is that a Gran Turismo game still has its own distinct way of doing things - and this will continue to be the case no doubt with Kaz at the helm. The excellent Gran Turismo fansite GTPlanet has done a piece on the history of the game that is well worth a read. :)
  7. Gran Turismo Sport Gets A Proper Campaign The big update for Gran Turismo Sport that many have been waiting for is here. The single player ‘GT League’ mode comes via today’s 1.09 update and is effectively the good old GT single player campaign many adore the series for. Launching only back in October, the latest Gran Turismo game did appear to be suffering from a less than stellar response from fans of previous iterations. It’s online focus and bare bones 'campaign' saw players taking a 'wait and see' approach, resulting in substantial price drops, especially across Europe. GT League However, the tides turned when the news about the upcoming release of ‘GT League’ and more cars came out, and those fans who were on the fence, started to snap up copies. Series names such as 'Sunday Cup' and 'Clubman Cup' will be familiar to players of the games from before. It's not too shabby either, as there is a decent amount of content here to start off with, and with a promise to add more over time it is sure to keep players' attention in the future also. [caption id=attachment_7433" align="aligncenter" width="800] Hello old friends![/caption] Leagues do have a Driver Level requirement in order to enter and so racking up those wins will be important. Twelve Brand New Cars! A batch of twelve gloriously detailed cars from the continents of Europe, North America and Asia make their way in through this update too. Included amongst them are favourites like the: Nissan Skyline R32 and R34, Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Countach LP400, Chevrolet Corvette C3 Stingray Convertible, and even a Volkswagen Samba Bus! GT Sport: 'Holiday Update' Cars Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A (FD) Nissan Skyline GT-R V・spec II (R32) Nissan Skyline GT-R V・spec II Nür (R34) Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Lamborghini Countach LP400 Ferrari F40 Ferrari Enzo Ferrari KTM X-BOW R Suzuki Swift Sport Volkswagen Samba Bus Type 2 (T1) Chris Holstrom Concepts 1967 Chevy Nova Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible (C3) New Track Layout Even though it’s not a whole new environment, a demanding new layout comes in the form of the “Kyoto Driving Park + Miyabi”. As you can tell this is created by joining together the two tracks to make one super circuit. And as if it wasn’t enough when heading the right way around the track, the reverse is an even bigger challenge and will be sure to test even the most hardened racer. We have added the “Yamagiwa + Miyabi” layout, a 6.8km long track connecting the “Yamagiwa” and ”Miyabi” tracks of the Kyoto Driving Park. The connections add 2 hairpins to the track which increase the track’s level of technical difficulty. Other Stuff Another notable addition that comes with the 1.09 update is the new “Season’s Greetings” group for Scapes which contains multiple settings to help players add some seasonal joy and festivities to their images. 8. GT Sport: New DLC Cars, Play Offline & Traditional Campaign It’s been just over a month since Gran Turismo Sport launched and already Polyphony Digital are getting ready to act on the feedback they have been given. Two updates are destined to drop for November and December, each of them bringing with them their own surprises and goodies. In a posting made on the official PlayStation Blog by Kazunori Yamauchi, we learn that as of the start of next week, patch 1.06 aims to right some wrongs and deliver some improvements, whereas the December update will see the classic GT Mode campaign return, now titled ‘GT League’, together with 12 FREE cars! Hello GT Mode-o If you haven’t heard, then GT Sport hasn’t gone down too well with classic GT players because of the seriously lacking single player campaign mode it has, and if this was a reason you yourself held off on buying then you’ll be delighted to hear that the classic GT Mode long-time players know and love is making its appearance with the December update, with the new name, ‘GT League’. [gallery type=rectangular" link="file" size="small-post-image" ids="7433,7434,7435,7436] The old favourites are here: Sunday Cup, Clubman Cup and the FF/MR/FR Challenges, plus more. In the past these were hampered because of GT’s abysmal on-rails AI, but players tolerated it because it allowed them to take their cars out on the many excellent tracks available, against some form of competition, but with GT Sport improving in this area finally, the fun factor of these should hopefully be taken up a notch. It is quite amazing to see this happen so quickly after initial release, and there is some debate as to whether this has been in the pipeline or has been done in response to the wealth of criticism regarding a true campaign missing from the new game. Whatever the case may be, it is just damn good to see GT Sport turning into a proper Gran Turismo, and quickly at that! And with a promise of more to come in 2018, this should see even more players picking it up. No Online Required*! Another big annoyance for many is the mandatory need to be online to use non online-centric modes such as the Scapes and Livery Editor. Fortunately that’s another irk that will be sorted out with the first update, as of 1.06 there will no longer be a need to be online to use both of these or the forthcoming GT League... *BUT, an online connection is still required to SAVE your progress in them. So yeah, if the servers or your connection are down you can still use these modes (unlike before), but to save that extra progress will need to wait until online connectivity returns. GT Sport DLC Cars We’re used to Kaz and his hyperbole but if there is one area where he and his team stay true to it is in the adding of new cars to their games. And a total of fifteen cars will be transported to players’ games for free with the upcoming updates, starting with three new vehicles in November and a further twelve in December. The first of those to roll on through are the Zagato IsoRivolta Vision GT (how many cars/concepts can you see in this thing?), Shelby Cobra 427, and the Audi R18 racer. [gallery type=rectangular" link="file" size="seven-post-image" ids="7437,7438,7439,7440,7441,7442,7443,7444,7445] December’s shipment continues on the randomness in choice by including everything from two iconic Ferraris, a Suzuki hot hatch, a monster Ford Raptor, Nissan R32 and R34 Skylines, and even a VW Samba Bus (Camper). The full inventory can be seen below: Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A (FD) Nissan Skyline GT-R V-spec II (R32) Nissan Skyline GT-R V-spec II Nür (R34) Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Lamborghini Countach LP400 Ferrari F40 Ferrari Enzo Ferrari KTM X-BOW R Suzuki Swift Sport Volkswagen Samba Bus Type 2 (T1) Chris Holstrom Concepts 1967 Chevy Nova Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible (C3) What are the odds that there’s going to be some crazy mixed-class grids on show after this! GT Sport’s Future It may have been a bit of a stalled start for GT Sport with those hesitant to make a purchase because of the change from previous titles, but the commitment to support the title from now and beyond looks to be one that should reassure all types of player: be they multiplayer racing diehards, keen virtual automotive photographers, talented livery designers, or single player campaign aficionados. From now to March 2018, a total of approximately 50 cars are already planned for addition to the game. And the updates will continue beyond March! You can of course look forward to the addition of new tracks as well, so stay tuned! PD (and Kaz?) appear to realise all of these areas need attention, and as long as people keep making their voices heard, and in good numbers, chances are they could get acted upon as perhaps they are starting to finally get, that listening to your community will result in a better game. [via PlayStation.Blog.Europe]
  9. It's obvious some people are playing this so how is it? Is it worthy of being a Gran Turismo? Does it fix areas the series has long been failing in, or is it a typical GT whereby it concentrates more on stupid stuff rather than where it should?
  10. Gran Turismo Sport Demo A Gran Turismo Sport demo has been confirmed in a posting on the official PlayStation EU blog by Polyphony Digital President, Kazunori Yamauchi. In true GT-style, this demo is not of the typical affair. For a start it will last for only 4 days, however it will also act as a springboard to the full game as the in-game credit earned in that time, up to a maximum of $1MM, can be transferred over. Available free from the PlayStation Store, from 0900/9AM GMT on 9th October through 1300/1PM GMT 12th October, with pre-download active 48-hours earlier, the demo is sure to provide a real good look at the main areas of the game. The game modes in the demo The start will see players given the option to experience a respectable amount of the Sport, Campaign, or Arcade modes. With Sport mode, players set out to put in the fastest lap during each qualifying session, before a race against those of similar ability and skill takes place. This is the mode that GT Sport is all about and should make for some fantastic, fair (?) and extremely competitive races for all with its clever match-making. Campaign mode may be named that but it’s taken a lot of flack for sounding and looking more like a glorified version of the older License test feature of previous games. Describing it more as a Racing School is probably more accurate as in here it is all about learning how to drive and race better. Taking on challenges, missions, and learning the circuits and their ways in the effort to make players, better drivers. The rewarding of vehicle unlocks, in-game currency, and Experience Points for the completion of the trials and 'Daily Workouts' do allow it to have some merit as a campaign, but for long-time fans and those used to a typical racing campaign, it might be sorely lacking. They haven’t forgotten all you out there who just want to jump in a car and hit a track either, as Arcade mode, the old favourite, is there. With a few button presses players can choose from a range of vehicle classes on 3 pre-selected circuit layouts with different terrains and just have fun. Whether you want to go for high-speed oval racing on Northern Isle, hone your technical skills on Dragon Trail, or drift sideways through the corners in rally, race on your own terms as you choose from multiple driving aids including braking and or steering to hone your skills. And even though it’s a feature mostly not seen these days, it is really nice to see that the classic 2-player split screen mode is still about. Enough with the racing, I want to play! In addition to all the racing, players will get to sample the 'Scapes' photo mode and the new to the series Livery Editor. The former has many fanatics of the always popular photo mode really excited, whereas the latter just has lots saying to themselves, ‘finally!’. That being said, if the creativity and quality that is found in other titles can be replicated in the editor, then we should be in for a treat at the creations that will be on display. A new Gran Turismo is always an event, but it's been tough being a fan of it as it's always seemed to go its own (strange?) way, whereas other titles have continued to do better, raising the bar in areas GT used to excel at. And over the time of it’s development we have seen and heard promising things about the improvements they have been making, but will it be enough? Well this demo will at least answer some of that, so at least players aren't having to go in blind. [via PlayStation EU blog]
  11. Driving the Heroes of Gran Turismo As Gran Turismo approaches its 20th Anniversary, Top Gear has been able to round up six of the “heroes of Gran Turismo” – Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI TME, Honda NSX, Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R, Toyota Supra and Mazda RX-7 – and drive them around a track that has a few similarities to High Speed Ring. (no tunnel though :() For those who can remember watching and reading all the media in the run up to the original GT launching for the PlayStation, it is not at all hyperbole to say that it was a defining moment for many a racing gamer and would-be car enthusiast. This game introduced many cars to the rest of the world that were either unknown or were little known to the majority. Names from Japan such as FTO, Skyline and RX-7 were beamed into living rooms and became legends from then on. Even to the point where some of those early players made it their goal to attain one of those that they were introduced to through the game itself. (I really wanted an FTO myself!) When you work for a widely-respected automotive outlet then that dream can be taken even further, and this is exactly what Stephen Dobie has done. GT put these cars in the living rooms of anyone with a PlayStation. It was unprecedented access to fast cars for those who couldn’t afford them. And, crucially, those who weren’t yet old enough to drive. Playing GT was a formative experience for me; it launched when I was 10. And today, at Rockingham race circuit, I’m driving its cars for real. The agonising scrolling through the game’s selection screen has been made real. I’m a bit giddy and don’t know quite what to do. Finding that there is quite a bit of difference from the game pad to the real thing, we are treated to a fun and passionate explanation of the characteristics of each car and their good and bad points. Being that it is also a piece about GT, there are mentions of the game here and there but not enough, or in such a way, as to make anyone who didn’t play, feel lost. And those shots of the cars throughout by photographer Mark Riccioni, are no doubt going to be making their ways onto many a device's wallpaper. [caption id=attachment_7209" align="alignnone" width="800] Thank you Gran Turismo![/caption] It sure did bring back some memories and made me laugh at points. [via Top Gear]
  12. Limited Edition Gran Turismo Sport PS4 Bundle The Gran Turismo series is well-known for being a system seller for PlayStation, and so just like the special console bundles that have come before, a new Gran Turismo Sport PlayStation 4 bundle has been announced to coincide with the first foray of the Polyphony Digital series on the near 4-year-old! console when it lands from October 18th. (man they take their time!) Being more than just a nice box design with a standard system and game inside, this special edition PS4 is actually a good looking piece of kit from what we can see, with a special silver faceplate atop a black contrasting body, adorned with the obligatory GT logo. And gosh darn it, too often we see the system itself getting the special treatment alone, not this time though, as the controller also gets treated to a new paint scheme, sharing the same silver and black combination of that of the system. Available only as a standard PS4 and surprisingly not also in a PS4 Pro guise, the bundle includes a customised PS4 1TB console, controller, and a Day 1 edition of GT Sport. Oh and GT fans outwith the UK, Europe and Australia need not apply, as it’s only available in those regions, sorry. What is the premium for this? Umm well, that’s not actually known at this time. The limited edition console comes with a Day 1 edition of the game which provides access to $250,000 in-game credits, livery sticker packs, a chrome racing helmet and 60 PS4 avatars. Not having the system available in a PS4 Pro example seems a bit of a misjudgement as the title is enhanced for the system and if there is one thing that the series is known for, it’s being a graphical tour de force. Therefore, a high-end special edition would make sense, right? Those already who have their systems but really like the look of the controller will be thrilled to know that it will be available to buy separately or as a bundle with a standard copy of the game, (why not the Day 1!!! - Gah!), along with the normal PS4 bundles detailed below: Other Gran Turismo Sport PS4 Bundles That’s not all though – we have more bundles available to suit every player which all come with a standard copy of Gran Turismo Sport: Jet Black PS4 1 TB edition Jet Black PS4 500GB edition Jet Black PS4 1TB + extra Jet Black DUALSHOCK 4 edition Jet Black PS4 Pro edition Questionable decisions aside, the wait for a PS4 Gran Turismo game is almost over, and let’s just hope, it was worth it. 13. [HEADLINE]Gran Turismo Sport - Previews[/HEADLINE] Previews galore are appearing for GT Sport giving us loads of gameplay footage and a better idea of how the game will play, along with a real look at the lesser seen features such as the livery editor and vehicle customisation. Disappointingly, the campaign seems to be one in name only, as there is nothing really of substance to it. 14. [HEADLINE]GT Sport Will Release In October[/HEADLINE] GT Sport has a real release date at long last! The game that sees the GT series make its first outing on PS4 will release in mid-October with North America getting first turn on the 17th, followed by Europe a day later on the 18th and Japan one day more on the 19th. The Beta was received well while it was running and the series does appear to be working on its problem areas that fans have been shouting about to Sony and PD for too long now. Are you excited for GT Sport or has the competition got your attention more?
  15. GT Sport Release Date Revealed? At E3 we got only a tentative ‘Fall’ release date for Gran Turismo Sport via a very nice trailer. But now, maybe, because of the latest July edition of the Official PlayStation magazine we just might have a date we can pin our hopes on: November 16th. There’s been numerous rumours and hearsay about when the game will finally release but this one does have some backing compared to the other December 31st placeholder types that retailers are mainly showing. And GT has been a game that has in the past liked their end of year release dates, usually favouring December, and so it would be very fitting to see this happen. OPM has in the past been the revealer of unknown release dates (or been close to them) and with the game intending to originally drop in November 2016, it is as good a date as any to place your bets on. 16. Gran Turismo Sport Release Date’ish Those waiting to hear about the actual release date for Gran Turismo Sport were given a little hope during the pre-show of PlayStation’s E3 briefing, as a new video dubbed the ‘Theme Music’ trailer was shown. As it started to roll, the text ‘COMING FALL 2017’ appeared, giving the first clear indication of an intended new release window being set for this year after all, and confirming that the game should be seeing a release sometime between September and November. (could we see both FM7 and GT Sport releasing in October?) Let’s talk about this latest trailer though. Playing out in a manner that represents that of a global preparation for a race with the safety car taking a run in the early morning around the courses, the team trucks arriving and offloading cars, and spectators arriving trackside. We are treated to the build up before the actual race event and it is all shown in the impeccable fashion that has come to be expected from, and consistently delivered, by Polyphony Digital. As the soundtrack starts to become more alive, it is now time to watch races take place across the numerous motorsports and locations that exist in the game. With the races coming to a grand finish, the end part is taken up by the winning driver and their celebrations. Even though this confirmation is loose, it’s the best we have at this time, and with a GT game, anything is better than nothing.
  17. Gran Turismo Sport – Porsche Trailer #2 An extended version of the trailer that announced that Porsche and Gran Turismo were finally going to officially meet, has been released. And this time we get the red car’s version of events of that fateful meeting on the Nordschleife. Lasting just over 3 minutes and devoid of any music to interfere, this new cut shows even more footage from the interior view of the car as it hounds the other, and displays why the replays of Gran Turismo are so highly regarded. Watching the car work as it is shown between being planted on the tarmac and slicing through the corners, to fighting to keep control as it reaches the limits of adhesion where the tail then wants to break out, is made that much better when it looks as good as this. As mentioned previously, this trailer has no soundtrack other than the engine noise and exhaust note and it might just be a placebo effect, but this sounds better compared to the one from about a fortnight ago in my opinion. One area where I feel I notice a difference is the interior engine sound, it appears more muted. And the part that really makes me think this, is at the moment where they enter the Karussell. This new video doesn’t seem to have that waspy sound I tend to compare to. Again this might be just me hearing things that aren’t there, but I love good sound in racing games, and I think, there is a difference between them. Captured in 4K at 60fps, the trailer is a treat for the eyes and there is plenty on show here for everyone to make up their mind on. I am really hoping Gran Turismo Sport will raise the bar for GT games from now on, as competition is fierce in this area and as we have seen elsewhere, a name can only go so far until people realise that there is better out there. [gallery type=rectangular" link="file" size="seven-post-image" ids="6888,6889,6890,6891] Gran Turismo Sport is still set for a 2017 release and will be available on PS4 and PS4 Pro.
  18. Gran Turismo Sport Porsche Footage Polyphony Digital have released the first official gameplay footage of Porsche in Gran Turismo Sport, and as you would expect, it looks unbelievably good. It is crazy to think that despite the series being almost 20 years old, this is the very first time Porsche has properly been seen in an official capacity in a GT game. The footage is made up of a pair of 991-gen Porsche 911 GT3 RS chasing one another around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, and is taken from what appears to be the game's illustrious replay mode. It begins with us having a look at the car selection screen, where it can be seen that scrolling through the available body colours, also changes the wheel colour. Next, it’s out onto the track and sitting behind the wheel of the car itself, as a brief stint in the cockpit view takes up the first part of the on-track action. In this segment we get a good look at the high detail of the interiors. It wouldn’t be GT without those incredible replay angles that can be easily mistaken for real life at times, and this first showing of Porsche delivers in that aspect with some short, but truly stunning scenes! You get a sense that we are meant to be checking out the sound of these cars too throughout this, and even though strides have been made in this area, there is still that waspy computerised sound gnawing at your ears in the higher rev ranges in my opinion. (I like authentic sound in my games!) For many this won’t matter which is a shame actually, as if more people cared about it, maybe we would see GT excel in this department to the level that they do in the visuals. Maybe in GT7 huh?
  19. Gran Turismo Will Finally Have Porsche! After damn near 20 years, Porsche is finally making its official appearance in Gran Turismo. The iconic brand has been sorely missed from the racing titan, except for a hidden away attempt back in the GT3 days where Kazunori Yamauchi tried to get his own 996 GT3 into the game, but unfortunately had to suffer the disappointment of not being able to make this happen because EA went and snatched the licence all for themselves, meaning the car was made unplayable or removed depending on the disc's region. In this the year of two-thousand-and-seventeen, that exclusivity hostage taking of the famous German manufacturer has now been severed, and now the marques’ legends and backlog are starting to show up in so many top racing titles that you could easily forget the whole sorry affair even happened. (I however won’t and in fact do still cry at least once a month thinking about it :() Porsche's inclusion in the forthcoming GT Sport was revealed through a posting on the official PlayStation Spain twitter, where an image containing the very highly-sought after modern Porsche 911 GT3 RS was paired with the news about the game's European Beta starting this weekend. Naturally the realisation that Porsche was finally in Gran Turismo, quickly overtook the whole ‘Woohoo Euro Beta is here!’ excitement. This announcement was quickly followed by more glorious images of Porsche metal (albeit the same model) from GT Sport's photo and Scapes modes. Initial impressions of the Beta from those lucky sods in the USA who have been able to play seem pretty positive too, apart from those sounds. They’re better sure, but when you got the competition blasting out those authentic sounds you need to step this up in your own game. [gallery type=rectangular" link="file" size="seven-post-image" ids="6728,6729,6726] What is interesting is that we are probably likely to see GT Sport and the new Forza Motorsport 7 come out around the same time, or at least know of and will have seen both in action with the presumable Forza 7 debut being at this year’s E3. And with the new Forza being a poster-child for Project Scorpio, that shouldn't be looking too shabby either. Yep, things are looking good for the racing fan yet again! GT Sport is still slated for a 2017 release and with the improvements being seen and this announcement of Porsche being in, things are only getting better and the delay is looking ever more like the right decision. Rough for RUF? Perhaps not many of you are even thinking about this now that Porsche are in but I want to know what happens to RUF now? As much as I love the 911 in most of its guises and a number of the brand’s offerings past and present, I still adore RUF’s CTR ‘Yellowbird’ and their R turbo, Rt12 and others. It would be a real shame to lose these but then if it comes down to having to choose between either Porsche or RUF, then the former is going to be the popular choice, and rightly so. However in my opinion, it would be a shame to lose RUF completely.
  20. GT Sport Screenshot Feast! A pile of screenshots has been released for GT Sport by developer Polyphony Digital to go alongside the release of the latest trailer that was shown at this year's PlayStation Experience. Although dynamic time and weather will NOT (!) be a feature of GT Sport, the official images set out to make us forget about this as they contain numerous examples of times of day and their lighting conditions. Showing various examples from the likes of the Nürburgring, Brands Hatch, Willow Springs, Tokyo, and the fictional Fisherman’s Ranch rally circuit, it is clear to see that the game will certainly be a real looker no matter what time the races will take place, with those on a PS4 Pro and an HDR-enabled 4K tv getting the best out of what's on offer. Masters of the craft of creating a truly photorealistic look, the images could easily be mistaken for real life shots if the logo wasn't there on some of them. However let's wait and see if there is more to salivate over than just the pretty visuals. GT Sport aims to make a release at some point in 2017 for PS4 and PS4 Pro. 21. PlayStation Experience GT Sport A stupidly gorgeous new trailer for GT Sport has been unveiled at this year’s PlayStation Experience for us to feast on. Looking absolutely stunning and highlighting key visual features that the game will incorporate such as 4K support on PS4 Pro, HDR lighting and VR, we are also given looks at multiple forms of racing including rally and night racing along with the whole pre-race build-up as crews prepare the cars which are then seen pulling out of their boxes and lining up behind the pace car on the grid. In a game that is endorsed by the FIA it stands to reason that the whole show is being recreated accurately. It’s a nice touch but like the pre-game build-up sequences in football games such as FIFA and Pro Evo, it will likely be watched once or maybe twice before the ‘Skip’ option will be used every time thereafter. The trailer is clearly a technical look-at-this, rather than anything substantial about how players will actually play through it which is fine but with the other racing games out and due out (Forza 7) this has to be a title full of substance, and less about just the style; no matter how well it does it. Sound is well done in the trailer though it is more than likely dubbed as if there is one thing the past has taught us, and as George 'Dubya' so eloquently put: ‘fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice… *pause* ...you can’t get fooled again’ – so yeah we’ll wait and see before tearing up at those visuals if the sound once again makes us want to tear our hair out. Oh yeah, it’s out in 2017. Not early 2017, or summer 2017, or late 2017, no, just 2017.
  22. GT Sport vs Forza 6 Audio Forza has typically been the winner in the console arena for authentic sounds but it could be about to have some actual competition in this from none other than Gran Turismo Sport. We had already talked about the off-screen footage showing a Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat running around Brands Hatch, captured by MotoGamesTV, that was sounding good in a number of areas. Not least the change from the ear-busting tyre squeal the GT series has incorporated since it’s debut. As if to show that what we are hearing is not simply a trick of the mind or a sort of placebo effect (aka wishful thinking), MotoGamesTV have put a video together where they compare sounds of the same car in both Forza Motorsport 6 on Xbox One and the early footage mentioned before of GT Sport. It’s about the sound remember so the static image shown is not a problem, this is meant for your ears not your eyes. Your eyes should only be looking for what title’s audio is currently active. No doubt fanboys will jump in and claim a win for their own but newsflash people, you want both games to be as good as one another in all aspects as competition is a good thing, and it pushes these games to bigger and better things. Try not to forget that. From our own observations and comparing to videos like the above that feature the real vehicle, I think it is pretty clear that the interior GT Sport sound is the closer one. Forza’s version seems to be from a different car or has had its sound tweaked in a way that removes the natural grunt and turns it instead into something a bit synthetic sounding. The exterior though, from a couple of looks around of those videos where you can hear the car itself, and not have someone narrating over it, leans to Forza this time in my view. In all honesty, it is just good to see that a Gran Turismo is demonstrating sounds that the series has long deserved. Personally I cannot wait to see hear more footage if the audio is heading this way. Maybe I am completely wrong though, so make up your own mind. [via MotoGamesTV]
  23. Better sound? That would be Grand With every new Gran Turismo there is always that inevitable wait, delay and disappointment felt due to the lack of attention in the areas that have been cried out to be improved by its community and fans. GT Sport was looking to continue this tradition on – and may still do so – but with the announcement recently that the new GT will support 4K, HDR and in a rather surprising admission, not have VR being fully-playable but instead having a ‘VR Tour’ mode, it certainly seemed to be more of the same with little attention not being paid again to those areas that need it. However off-screen videos captured at Paris Games Week and the Paris Motor Show are showing a cause for excitement as an area that has been sorely lacking for the series, sound, is showing a real sense of improvement. Gone is the super screechy tyre squealing, replaced instead with a real-world noise that is more authentic and hints to what the car is doing. And when you have reports like this by Eurogamer showing their surprise at the sound being thrown out by what they are playing, there has to be something going on that people are noticing. Engine notes are starting to properly resemble those of the real thing – the Mercedes-AMG GT S seen in the video by PlaneteGT above has that throaty angry sound that AMG Mercs are known for and the Dodge Charger shown in the video by MotoGamesTV below has a real grunt to it. It’s not perfect but it is an improvement for sure. There is still work to be done but it does suggest that the grab of the former Forza Audio technician was a damn good one, and that they are showing Polyphony Digital how to do what has been asked for so long. If Kaz and co can see just how much accurate sound means to people then there is a real hope that GT Sport, even if not a proper GT title (that will be GT7) because of its more esports focus could be the game to take the GT series out of the shadows that it is, in my opinion, now in due to titles such as Forza Motorsport, Assetto Corsa (though still needing work on the multiplayer side) and even Project CARS. Considering how long it has taken to get into and tackle this area, I guess we might see accurate damage represented in GT8 ??? GT Sport is due out in 2017 for PlayStation 4 and will be enhanced for PS4 Pro along with some doodads for PS VR.
  24. GT Sporting more of the same? The Tokyo Game Show (TGS) took place last week and Polyphony Digital was there with Gran Turismo Sport and thanks to the top gaming media site Gamersyde, we have lots of off-screen footage. With varying levels of competency on display from those sitting in front of the wheel we can see that the visuals are looking rather nice. Nothing unusual in that as this is a GT title after all. The HUD looks to have been given another couple of changes in places and not knowing the language the GUI is in, there is a part where the car you have chosen is shown from different views while technical details fade in via varying transitions too. Perhaps a way of displaying the selected vehicle's data or maybe a loading screen? Out of the videos by Gamersyde from their channel and available at their site in full-quality (and when available at 60 fps!) the following is our pick that we feel show the game off fairly well and is accompanied by – mostly – competent driving. In the above video where the player is running a race on an Oval, we see that the game appears to be running fairly smooth but that the typical GT tyre sound, collision physics and maybe even the AI keeps on with the usual. Why these areas hardly seem to get the attention the GT fan base shouts out for is a hard one to reason. Up next is a medium-speed affair around Brands Hatch GP circuit, where the driver at least appears to want to win by doing their best to race clean and keep good lines through the corners. It might just be a trick of the shadowing but at times to us it looked like some of the cars were floating, especially at the front and do not seem to have their wheels planted on the tarmac. You may not notice this however as the sun reflecting off the windows and bodywork may have temporarily blinded you. The final pick of the media on offer is an attempt at the fictional Fisherman’s Ranch rally track. Featuring plenty of bumps and sections where the rear of your car will peel out regardless of whether you meant to or not. We see our Japanese friend doing their best to keep the car pointing forward as they tackle what is looking to be a tricky course, though the flimsy looking yet impenetrable orange surrounding does seem a bit dated. With the delay to 2017 we hope PD really look at some of what the competition offer and aim to replicate it. Gamersyde offer all of the above videos and the rest of their media in full-quality downloads and when available at 60 fps too. Be sure to add them to your bookmarks if you don’t already!
  25. GT Sport Delay For anyone who was wondering whether GT Sport was a proper Gran Turismo, that question has been answered, with the announced delay that the game has been pushed to 2017. (is that the Gregorian 2017 though?) There is no mention of the when in 2017 but if past experiences are any indication then chances are it might be late 2017 as GTs have had a tendency to release at the very ends of their proposed years. It will not be alone though, as 2017 will also be the hit marker of the ever reliable 2-year development window where a new Forza Motorsport tends to show itself, meaning that we could see both titles out around the same time. And in the past it has been easy to see how the old dog of GT seems to falter behind the exceptional and ever willing to bring new features to the table Forza series of games, despite having so much more time to get the bloody game done! Yes it’s hard being a GT fan. Waiting and waiting, hearing stupid decisions and the same old non-attention to what has been cried out as needing attention but, it’s still a series that draws in the buyers and sells well. Recent releases haven’t done the numbers as past glories but a good few million will still fly off the shelves and be downloaded as after all, it is a new Gran Turismo. Maybe it’s even easy to hate GT now, becoming more like an expect the worse (as in just more of the same) and hope to be surprised if it delivers. In the end however, it is a GT game on the latest Sony PlayStation and by that account it will excitedly be awaited by the fans, and some of the more casual will as always be drawn in when they see it running some place. Believe it or not I am actually a GT fan, it's just difficult not be tired of the series seeming to stagnate and the issues that get mentioned never seeming to get a look.
