  1. Humble Ubisoft Bundle Encore Another week, another bundle. This time it's in partnership with the somewhat known Ubisoft known for bringing us games such as that one with the cars and that other one with the building climby people, or that other other one with the futurey gadget people. This time you have plenty of notice, more than 13 days in fact to scrape together those pennies for all of the games below, with more to be announced. This weeks charities are Extra Life / Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, Stack-Up, and Girls Who Code so why not dig deep, or shallow you tight buggers and have fun supporting them! For a mere $1 you can get the three games above to tide you over until you get chance to play the games below if you paid over the average, which is currently $5.04. And by the time the bundle is over, there will be at least one more game to play. Whose hoping the next game will be Watchdogs? And for those of you who aren't tight buggers, you can get the games below by paying over $15 and $75 respectively for the drivey, climby and futurey games mentioned before! A noteworthy mention is that the majority of these games are only redeemable on Ubisofts uPlay platform as opposed to the usual Steam for these bundles. But for the potential price, you can't really complain can you?
  2. The Division - A Little Bit Divided The Division's launch is now a few days behind us, and overall it appears to be have been a successful launch minus a handful of hiccups. There were a few reports of people being unable to login to the game in the hours after the servers were enabled that gave some users the dreaded 'Mike' error. It was apparently named after our own Mike as the servers just refused to lift a finger and do any work! (hehe) I'm one of those boring people who has a job, so was unable to experience any of these issues as they had mostly been resolved by the time I got home. But I did encounter a somewhat annoying issue at the beginning of the game. Those of you that have played will know that at the start you need to activate your character in a safe house before you are let loose to raise havoc on the city of New York. This laptop however, for some people had other ideas and simply would not let more than 1 person activate at a given time, meaning the forming of an orderly queue became a bit of a side-quest for players. [caption id=attachment_4412" align="alignnone" width="800] "The Computer Says No"[/caption] This was quite problematic as activation requires holding a button for a couple of seconds. And with everyone eager to play the game this resulted in nobody being able to play the game when in certain servers. In fact it took me over an hour of pressing the square button, cooking dinner and even eating my dinner before I could play the game. But when I could, I found it quite enjoyable. The game blends two genres, a shooter with role-playing game mechanics and I have to say that they have done this rather well. The RPG elements aren't overly complicated and shouldn't put off those who are not really into levelling skills, choosing perks and what not. The shooter side is also nicely done with them striking a balance between single player enjoyment and playing in a team of people. [caption id=attachment_4415" align="alignnone" width="800] Yo Dog![/caption] Some people are not too sure on the game, but from who I've talked to about The Division, they all seem to enjoy it. Especially with the Easter eggs that have been scattered around New York, however I won't be the one to spoil these for you. How are you finding The Division yourself? Share your thoughts and experiences with us in the forums when you can tear yourself away from it.
  3. [headline]The Second Installment Of AC Chronicles Takes You To India[/headline] Developed by a collaborative effort between Climax Studios and Ubisoft Montreal, Chronicles brings the life of an assassin to the 2.5 dimensional world featuring stunning visuals and exciting gameplay. India is now available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC worldwide. What do you guys think? It's giving me massive Prince of Persia vibes :hmmm:
  4. Rip into an RX-7 With the launch of Wild Run barely a month in the past, the team at Ubisoft have a slew of improvements to announce in response to community feedback, slated for release very soon. Be sure to let us (and the developers) know what you think of the latest handling tweaks. VEHICLES AND SPECS A new vehicle can be purchased by all players of The Crew and The Crew Wild Run: the Pagani Zonda in Full Stock and Perf Spec. As many of you have been requesting, the Mazda RX-7 will be coming in Drift Spec for The Crew Wild Run players. Christmas stickers are being added into the game for all players. HANDLING IMPROVEMENT FOR THE VEHICLES: The following vehicles have received a handling tuning that provide: improved aerodynamics, better steering reactivity, improved countersteering, improved grip behavior, and an increase in the differences between Driving Help/Sport/Hardcore modes. BMW Z4 sDrive35is 2011 FULL STOCK/STREET/PERF/CIRCUIT/RAID Dodge Charger R/T Hemi FULL STOCK/STREET/PERF/ CIRCUIT /DIRT 2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10 FULL STOCK/STREET/PERF/ CIRCUIT /DIRT/RAID McLaren 12C FULL STOCK/PERF/ CIRCUIT Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 FULL STOCK/PERF/ CIRCUIT 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 FULL STOCK/PERF 1967 Shelby GT500 FULL STOCK/PERF/CIRCUIT Mini Cooper S 2010 FULL STOCK/STREET/PERF/CIRCUIT/DIRT Saleen S7 FULL STOCK/PERF/CIRCUIT Volkswagen Golf GTI FULL STOCK/STREET 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 FULL STOCK/STREET/PERF/CIRCUIT/DIRT Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG FULL STOCK/PERF/CIRCUIT Chevrolet Silverado FULL STOCK/STREET/PERF/CIRCUIT/DIRT/RAID Hot Rod STREET/PERF/CIRCUIT/DIRT Lamborghini Miura SV FULL STOCK/PERF Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG FULL STOCK/PERF/CIRCUIT Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut FULL STOCK/PERF/CIRCUIT Aston Martin V12 Zagato FULL STOCK/PERF Bentley Continental Supersports 2010 FULL STOCK/PERF/CIRCUIT TUNING AND CHANGES Free Drive Stunts: The "No Crash" condition will now be triggered after level 10. Key binding – PC players: PC players were unable to rebind all their keys the way they wanted. This has been modified and PC players will be able to rebind their keys as they wish. The Summit music volume is now linked to the FX Volume instead of the Music Volume in the options. GENERAL FIXES Fix in Summit leaderboards: Removed the debug text which could be seen on the leaderboards of the Free Drive challenges, Free Drive Stunts and PvP. Number of required medals to access the monthly Summit: Three medals appeared as needed to access the monthly Summit. Inability to start the European Qualifier with some cars: A few vehicles weren’t matched to their region of origin (European cars), preventing them from being used in the appropriate Summit Qualifier. Kicked to the Main Menu during a Summit event: Players could be kicked to the Main Menu if they were in a middle of a Summit activity when the related Summit was ending. Fixed the improper value of players registered in Free Drive Stunt in the smartphone. Fixed a display issue where the Summit Qualifier appeared to be closed when it was actually active. Fixed an issue where an improper amount of ESK points was granted to a player at the end of a Free Drive Stunt. Fixed a display issue where 255 medals were needed to get access to the monthly Summit if a player never entered the Summit. The “Looking For Crew” queue should now be working properly with the Free Drive Stunts. Fixed a display issue where a part of the overall Summit leaderboard went outside of the screen if a player opened it after completing a Free Drive Challenge while a Summit was active. Fixed a display issue where the Summit reward page displayed a Monster ESK instead of a Drift ESK. Fixed an issue during the Summit cinematic when entering with a Monster Truck. The bonus faction missions available at the end of the month will now be properly activated.
  5. The Crew Photo Mode AND MORE... An image has been posted on the official Facebook for The Crew giving a glimpse at the post-launch content planned for its future. The most exciting of these for ourselves (and many others we hope!) is shown under the 'NEW TOOLS' heading and that is the 'Photo Mode'. Even before the game was released players have been asking for it due to the setting of the game. Now finally they will be able to take those shots and capture those moments that they have been wanting to do so for so long. And it will not only be the static image fans with their Photo Mode who will have their fun as it appears there will be a 'Video Mode' too. With these two new media-capturing tools there is also the mention of: new vehicles, new tuning specs , extra Summit Rewards and Events and Enhanced FreeDrive Challenges and a hint at even more due to the AND MORE... on the bottom right. ;) It's been only about a month since Wild Run became available bringing with it updated visuals and weather effects, and the community and players are still in multiple frames of mind to how they find it, nevertheless it is good to see the intent to support being posted only a short time after. Let's just hope it is s**ner rather than later.
  6. Jump In And Head For The Summit! The Crew's massive Wild Run update is coming to consoles and PC today! The complete Wild Run expansion will feature a whole load of new content, while the free update still includes new cars and all the fixes and changes to the game itself. Below we'll walk you through the new features and changes to the game. The Summit Each month there will be a competition between you and all the other players of The Crew, competing for access to exclusive cars, rewards and bragging rights on the leaderboard. You begin by entering qualifiers, there will be 2 qualifiers each week, you must complete these to gain access to The Summit. Once you're in, you advance by completing in missions, PVP events, freeride challenges, skills, and stunts. The Cars Also coming with the Wild Run expansion are a number of new vehicles and new specs such as Monster Trucks, Dragsters, Drift Cars and my personal favourite, Motorcycles! All of the new vehicles can be used in free roam and specific missions, as well as the new events in The Summit. New specs can also be applied to certain cars that are not new to the game, so you can still turn your favourite 370Z into a drift car. New cars: BMW X6 M RUF RT35 Subaru BRZ Mercedes SLR McLaren 722 Aston Martin Vanquish Lotus Exige S TVR Sagaris Mazda RX-7 Bikes: Kawaski Ninja H2 Ducati Monster 1200S KTM 450 EXC Indian Scout Ducati Diavel BMW S1000RR KTM 1290 Super Duke Gameplay On top of the new content, Ivory Tower have made a number of changes and updates to the gameplay. The Crew has underwent a massive graphics overhaul that includes a whole new dynamic weather system! Depending on where you are in The Crew's world, it could rain, it could snow, the roads could be soaking wet, or the fog could be so thick you can't see the car in front of you. Overall the graphics update completely changes the in-game atmosphere and brings The Crew up to new release standards. An additional 3 gameplay modes have also been added to freeride. Co-op Stunts, quick challenges that can be triggered whenever you're in freeride such as drifting, driving a certain distance, jumps, etc. On completion of a stunt, the player earns bucks and then another more difficult stunt is generated for them. The more stunts completed in a single streak the more bucks you can earn. FreeDrive Challenge, a competitive feature played within a crew. One player can create the challenge, setting waypoints and a finish line. At the end of the race, crew members earn rewards based on the number of players and what position they finished in. A new matchmaking system is also included in the update, LFP (Looking For Players). LFP is an automatic matchmaking process that groups players who want to play a specific game mode. Vehicle Handling Ivory Tower have also updated the handling and physics of cars, so far only certain cars and specs have received the handling update, see the list below. This handling update promises to improve aerodynamics, steering reactivity, counter steering, grip behaviour, tuning, and increase the distinctions between handling modes (all driving help/sport/hardcore). 7. UbIvory Tower The muppets developers behind the massively-massive-open-world-online-racer The Crew are now a part of the Ubisoft family, the publisher announced today. Ivory Tower, based in Lyon, France started waaaaaaay back in 2007 after a small team escaped from the dungeons of Eden Games (just kidding!) shortly after the release of Test Drive Unlimited. At the moment, the 100-strong workforce are as busy as giraffes working away on The Crew Wild Run for its November 17th 2015 release. The studio will continue to support the title through future updates which, via the release, we learn has had more than 3 million players experiencing the scaled down version of the USA found in it. "We've always enjoyed a very positive relationship with Ubisoft. Working together on The Crew, and celebrating its success, made us both understand that we have huge potential in continuing to work together in the future," Ivory Tower managing director Ahmed Boukhelifa said. "By joining Ubisoft, the team at Ivory Tower will continue to benefit from Ubisoft's infrastructure, support, tools, technology, and vision. In return, we will contribute our own expertise to the broader Ubisoft story." The game has had its fair share of criticisms and a number of these are certainly looking to be resolved with 'Wild Run' with the improved graphics, weather system and handling changes. One thing is certain, there has been no end of feedback provided to the team via social media and official forums and if they act upon this then the game can and will only get better and bring in even more players. It's so annoying to talk about potential in games especially if it's wasted, so come on Ivory, show them how it's done! Source: UbiBlog
  8. I thought I would compile a general FAQ of the most asked and common questions about the game. If you feel there is a question missing then please post it below, after ridiculing you we will ponder it for a while on whether to add it. :duck: [headline]The Crew: Unofficial FAQ[/headline] Favourites: Q: What platforms will The Crew be available on? A: The Crew will be available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. Q: What about the PS3? A: The PS3 architecture is too different to make the investment worthwhile, unfortunately. The X360 edition is made by Asobo studios (makers of FUEL). Initial feedback from players is that despite the limitations, it's a good port. Q: When is The Crew's release date? A: December 2, 2014!! Q: Will there be a monthly cost/subscription? A: No. You can even cruise online on consoles without requiring PS+/LIVE Gold. You do however need them for PvP lobbies and forming crews (multiplayer missions). And of course no subscription costs for PC players. Q: Can The Crew be played offline? A: No. Even on PC, your savegame data is saved online on the server instead of on a local HDD. If the server goes offline, you will be returned to the main menu and unable to sign in. Q: So what happens if there is connection issues or my internet explodes? A: It looks like if you can't connect, you can't play. :hmmm: Q: Is The Crew going to be available via Steam? A: Yes! And it included the Limited Edition bonuses. You can also buy the Season Pass (Gold Edition). UK users report that they cannot find The Crew in their Steam store, however they can ask a friend outside to buy the game for them as a gift. Q: Will The Crew have manual transmission? A: Originally it was for wheel users only, then enough of us cried so they are adding it for keyboard/pad/controller players too! Q: What are the physics like? :new: A: They're closer to the arcade side of the spectrum, but it's no Need for Speed gig, either. It feels a lot like TDU1 (normal mode). You need to brake for corners, and in hardcore mode, be modest with the amount of power/nitrous you use when exiting corners. You may need to endure the first few hours of gameplay until you install better car parts to further improve handling and make drifting possible. Q: So hardcore mode in The Crew is not like hardcore mode in TDU1? :new: A: Mostly correct. Your car isn't a featherweight with moon gravity, and you don't have to brake a mile before the next corner. It's also not quite as easy to break traction in mid-range cars. On the other hand, players with the fastest cars tuned to the max are reporting wheel spin in 7th gear, so you should be able to find the sweet spot by choosing the right level of upgrade parts. Q: Will there be a Closed Beta/Open Beta/Beta/Demo for The Crew? A: No... because the game is already Charlie (released)! The first Closed Beta for the PC ran from July 21st - 26th, with a second one between August 25th - 29th. Console betas were available in the final week of the following three months. No post-launch demo is available. Cars: Q: What number of cars will be in The Crew? A: So far we've counted 48 individual cars, plus their various specs - for the latest details, keep an eye on our Unofficial Car List. Q: There appear to be certain specs missing from some of the cars, compared to what I see the AI driving and from game trailers - where are they? :new: A: Don't panic, they'll become available in future updates and won't require micro-transactions. See here for the announcement. Q: Is there a cockpit view? A: Yes. The various tuning setups (Raid, Performance, Dirt etc) also have their own variations. Q: Will there be Japanese cars in The Crew? A: The Nissan 370Z and R34 Skyline make an appearance, see the car list thread for more details. Q: Is there a limit to how many cars we can have? A: You will be able to own every car in the game, there is no 10 car limit or anything like that. Q: What sort of damage with The Crew have? A: I'll leave the answer to this quote; "The Crew will include a full damage system that you can track in HQ. It will diminish each time the player hits something, and the amount of damage received depending on how big the crash is. The bar will then replenish by itself until a certain point, that point being reached faster and faster as time goes by. After some time, the car will have to be repaired. Handling will be affected by damage but only when it becomes pretty significant. When you take damage, the car will get scratched or dented, the bumper can fall down or hang off, and if your vehicle is in really bad shape, some scraping sounds or squeaky noises will be heard as you drive around or brake." Q: Can we TEST DRIVE cars before buying them? A: I see what you did there.... and yes you can test drive the Full Stock versions of cars. Q: Can we have more than one of the same car? :new: A: Yes and no. If the car has 5 specs available, then you can end up with each of them as 5 completely individual cars. You can't buy the same car and spec combination twice though. Bikes: Q: Will The Crew have bikes? A: Only cars for now.... Gameplay: Q: Can I remove all of the HUD from my screen? A: Yes, except for the names of other online freeride players in your session (developers are aware of this request). You can hide skill challenges from appearing, but last time we tested in a beta, you could still accidentally trigger them when cruising. Q: Can I smashy smashy bash bash things? A: Yes, although this will slow you down and damage your car. There are, however, in game Award Points for scaring thousands of pedestrians and damaging loads of property. Smashing items is also a handy way to keep Stunt combo's going. Q: Will The Crew have a photomode? A: Photomode has been confirmed by Ubi_Natchai. Q: Is 'active aero' active in The Crew? (popup wings, vents, picnic tables etc) A: Have to take them at their word on this, but it appears if a car in the game has it in real-life then it will have it in the game too. Q: Are there Police in The Crew? :new: A: Have you not seen ANY of the trailers for this game? Yes, there are. They make appearances in certain story and faction missions, and you can trigger online freeride police chases by crashing into a police car, or by crashing into a lot of traffic cars and/or property when near a police car. Q: Can I chase other players as a police car? :new: A: No. You can, however, help (or hinder) the police if they chase someone else in your freeride session. You can also start your own police chase and 'transfer' it to someone you are cruising with if their Wanted level exceeds yours at any point (if they crash into a lot of things in view of the police, or if you escape). Click to watch an example. Q: Traffic... ? A: Yes there will be. Traffic volume changes depending on location (city/rural) and time of day (peak hour). Q: Everything is so expensive! How am I supposed to purchase these supercars without resorting to buying more Crew Credits with microtransactions? :new: A: Fear not. You can click on Faction Missions on the map, and then choose Send Friends (assuming you have some). This doesn't contact your friends, but rather sends a virtual version of them on a simulated race. Do it right, and you can earn 160,000 Bucks every 3 hours. Q: The game always selects my best car within a certain spec when I start a race. How can I choose to race with a different (worse) car? :new: A: You are forced to use a car of the same spec as defined by the mission, but YOU CAN choose which car of that spec you complete the mission with. Just switch to the car you want to use before you launch the mission. Customisation/Tuning Q: What can I do to my car in The Crew? A: You will be able to customise the rims, bonnet/hood, front/rear bumpers, side-skirts, wings, fenders, lights, mirrors, engine etc Q: The interiors too? A: Yep, either from a default selection or via your own choices. Q: Will there be a livery editor/stickers! in The Crew? A: Yes, there are stickers to purchase in game with Bucks or CC. You cannot modify or layer multiple stickers on the one car, however. Additional stickers will be added as DLC. You can repaint the car colour independently of the stickers. Q: How do I change the paint of my full stock car? :new: A: Using any of the derivative tuned specs of that car, visit a tuner and purchase one of the Official paint colours. You can now visit your HQ in the full stock car, go to visual tuning and select the purchased colour. Audio Q: Is there a Radio/DJ in The Crew? Can I play my own music? A: There are different playlists built in similar to TDU1. There is no DJ/announcer. Using your own music is planned later. Hardware: Q: What are the PC system requirements for The Crew? :new: A: See here for minimum, recommended, and optimal PC specifications. Q: Will there be Track IR support in The Crew? A: Apparently it is in "their plans". Q: Will The Crew support a clutch? A: Yes, if you have a proper steering wheel setup. Clutch sensitivity, deadzone, and linearity can be adjusted in-game. Grinding noises play with bad shifts. Q: Will The Crew have 900 degree support? :new: A: PC will yes, consoles will be revealed later. However many are finding better gameplay with 540-680 degrees of rotation specified. Q: Can we get some little gold stars or something to show what was updated? :new: A: :new: ------------------------------------- A number of these answers have been gleamed from the official Q&A's that Ubisoft have on their official forums so be sure to check them out too!
  9. In a conference call after today's financial report for the first-half of FY15 Ubisoft revealed that they expect The Crew to sell 2 million units. What do think of this? Considering not long ago they said they expected 2.5m even before the Xbox 360 version was officially announced and have now reduced this figure by 20%, do you think they see some writing on the wall or have the pre-orders been much lower than anticipated? It's amazing how so many racing games fail because players cannot stand their handling, the fundamental aspect of any racing game is how it drives and the control it gives the player, mess that up and you deserve to crash and burn frankly. Hopefully this will not be the case with The Crew but hey we've seen it happen before and no doubt it will happen again. Sauce: GI.biz
  10. Julian Gerighty has confirmed to VideoGamer.com that the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game will run at native 1080p/30fps and that the PC "won't differ too much" as they are aiming for "parity" across the versions. Clearly with the power difference between all platforms each should be able to show it's strength but if they are looking to hold back the others to please the lowest common denominator (Xbox One) then that just seems a really dangerous slope to travel down. What do you think about this? Source: The Crew runs at native 1080p/30fps on both PS4 Xbox One - The Crew for PS4 News HOWEVER... According to destructoid the PS4 may have anti-aliasing compared to the Xbox One.

  12. Another fine preview this time from a Canadian news outlet, reading this one it's easy to garner the laid-back nature the reporter felt on their outing with the game and also the way they mention the Aventador being "too much car" for them certainly raises hope for a non-on-rails handling setup that many are hoping for. :D 'The Crew' fuses RPG with driving sim: 'Your character is your car'
  13. Eurogamer has always had a soft-spot for TDU and gets the notion of it being an epic driving game rather than a typical racer and it appears again that in this preview from them that they get the same impression from The Crew. That shouldn't be surprising seeing as the game is from a large swathe of the former 'TDUteam' but it makes for a fine read when it comes from this sort of perspective and nicely comments on the areas where this matters as well as the traits that have been borrowed and the items they have truly worked to improve on. From this Preview too it seems to put across that the whole microtransaction issue may not be as big a problem as we may be thinking from other reports, as he talks at a point about how he along with "his guide" strings a number of Skills which helps to unlock parts and how they themselves are plentiful. Well worth a read and a watch! Source: The Crew levels up the CarPG Eurogamer.net
  14. Ubisoft have posted this very short teaser video on Instagram, looks like they may be hinting at some event where certain people got to go and see the studio and play the game perhaps? Just a guess off the top of my head. :susp: Instagram
  15. Today Ubisoft announced that The Crew will be delayed further than the "early 2014" that was originally mentioned, the game is now set to release in the new fiscal '2014-2015' year which starts April 1st, 2014. via http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/10/15/watch-dogs-the-crew-delayed-until-at-least-april-2014 Musings around town seem to speak of July - September.
  16. How Big is 'Pretty Big'? Do you remember the first time you played Test Drive Unlimited all the way back in 2006/2007? How many times did you get lost early on? I wasn't too bad until I got myself into a long police chase which ended up becoming an off-road excursion... by the time I escaped I had absolutely no clue where I was. So no doubt you'd agree TDU1 had quite a large open world for its time. As you would recall, the Millionaire's Challenge required players to complete a lap around the island of O'ahu in under 60 minutes, with competent players able to complete the event in 45 minutes by averaging speeds above 250 kph (150 mph). What is interesting, however, is if you apply some turboduck maths, you can discover that the virtual version of O'ahu is much the same size as in reality. Or if that's too hard, you can always drive around the virtual island at the speed limit and compare the time it takes to what Google Maps suggests. But for the purposes of this article, let's assume that you can drive at an average speed 3 times faster in a supercar inside the game world compared to what the law allows in the real world. Figure 1 - aside from some discrepancies in the shape of the island, the size and scale are close to being 1:1. So nearly 8 years on from TDU1's launch on Xbox 360, let's have a look at what we know about the open world inside The Crew. Late last year, Creative Director Julian Gerighty made a few remarks regarding its size: A coast to coast race in the game, in a high-speed performance car, sticking to the roads is about an hour and a half, but if you want to go off-road, it’s about two hours and a half. We have one race, which is just for those maniacs, it’s not on the main path or anything. It goes around the circumference of the country and it’s a four hour race. WARNING: MATHS CONTENT If you ask Google Maps for directions from Los Angeles to the east coast, it will generally suggest a trip time of 39 hours. If we could drive that distance 3 times as fast, it would take 13 hours. So if the world in The Crew were a 1:1 scale with reality, then its 'coast to coast' race would logically also take ~ 13 hours. Since we know the game world is not to scale, and that the coast-to-coast race takes 1.5 hours, divide 13/1.5 to find the scale. Now we [think we] know that the real USA is 8.666666667x larger than the USA found in The Crew. VISUALISING THE SCALE Figure 2 - a satellite image of America (Google Maps) Figure 3 - an official illustration of the game world from The Crew. Figure 4 - overlaying the game world on top of the satellite image at roughly the same size. Visual discrepancies are much larger compared to O'ahu. Figure 5 - overlaying another copy of the game world image so that it appears scaled down as per the maths above. By now you can see how drastically the developers have had to scale down the USA for The Crew. Figure 6 - It's not all bad news though. Look how relatively large the scaled down map is compared to O'ahu. Figure 7 - in fact, it seems that we can fit O'ahu into the game world 43 times. Of course, all of this assumes our maths isn't floored. :) ONE SMALL PROBLEM Our calculations started off by using the number 39 as the number of hours needed to drive from Los Angeles to the east coast in real life. But have a closer look at Figure 4. The east coast in the game world appears to end near Tennessee on the satellite image. So perhaps the calculation should really be (27 hours/3)/1.5 = a scale factor of 6. So, what do you make of all this? Shall we just stick to saying the game world in The Crew is 'pretty big'? Or do you have your own ideas for calculating the scale. Let us know in the comments below. Don't forget to also visit the forums for more information on The Crew!

  19. [headline]The Crew: Ubisoft 'aiming for locked 30FPS' with PS4 & Xbox One [/headline] Ivory Tower and Ubisoft Reflections are "aiming for 30 frames per second locked" with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of next year's open-world racer The Crew, creative director Julian Gerighty has told VideoGamer.com, stating that a higher frame rate would be unrealistic given the size of the world. "We've never been at 60 frames per second," Gerighty told us during a gameplay presentation this morning. "We've always been aiming for 30 frames per second locked. Today, unfortunately certain PCs have been overheating, so we're having frame rate drops. It's a hardware issue, not a software issue. "60 frames per second is, of course, what we would all like to obtain," he continued, "but it's such a big world, and with all the online features running, it's just not realistic to obtain that. 30 [frames] locked is really, really good and exactly what we've been focussed on." Despite being co-developed by Driver: San Francisco studio Ubisoft Reflections, development on The Crew is being led by French studio Ivory Tower, comprised of ex-Eden Games developers, which has created a proprietary engine for the next-gen racer. "In fact, no," Gerighty replied, when asked whether The Crew was running on a modified version of Driver: San Francisco's engine. "It has the DNA of both Test Drive Unlimited, which was the world of Hawaii [and] seamless online, because it was conceived by Ivory Tower in France who are ex-Eden Games [developers]. But... this is a multi-studio project, so when Ubisoft asked Ivory Tower who [they wanted to] work with within Ubisoft, there is no better team - maybe in the world - for an action driving game, than working with Ubisoft Reflections. So Ubisoft Reflections are working hand-in-hand with Ivory Tower. "The tech behind it is proprietary to Ivory Tower. This is something that is completely brilliant in terms of tools that allows us to build a very varied, very spectacular, beautiful world very easily... So it's really more, in terms of technical side of things, Ivory Tower." Via Ubisoft 'aiming for locked 30FPS' with PS4 Xbox One The Crew - The Crew for Xbox One News

  21. Say Hello to The Crew After what has been a looooooonnnggg period of watching, snooping and what could even be bordering on stalking, we finally have the answer to what Ivory Tower (Ivory) has been working on since they formed in 2007!! The studio which was setup by a number of former Eden Games (closed by Atari March 2013) employees who had worked on the original 'Test Drive Unlimited' (TDU) and 'V-Rally' games has been - annoyingly! - quietly working on their game for a number of years. Being massive TDU fans we have eagerly been following and tracing anything that their name was attributed or associated to especially when LinkedIn profiles were mentioning things like "working on a AAA title" and "preproduction for a MMO racing game". Back in 2009 there was mention of the game coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC but it looks like plans have changed and they and Ubisoft have decided that The Crew is prime for the next-generation of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One along with the PC. Developed with the help of Ubisoft Reflections (Driver SF) the game looks very ambitious in what it is doing and we can't wait to watch it grow and show more of itself up to it's release. The Crew is a massively-multiplayer online (MMO) game where you have believe it or not an environment that is a replica of the USA albeit a scaled down version, but still HUGE nonetheless. The persistent online nature of the game blurs the lines between single, multi and co-op play with players being surrounded by both real-world players and/or AI depending on how they are playing the game. Every mission and challenge is available in single or multiplayer, so say you are having trouble completing an event, invite your crew to help you and finally beat it. Cue; With a Little Help from My Friends! There are no lobbies or a need to stop either so inviting your friends to a free-roam driving session or to assist you is quick and easy with the real-time interface activated during gameplay. Real-life cars such as the Chevrolet Camaro, Ford F150 pickup, RUF 3400K, Lamborghini Aventador and more can be modded and upgraded in different ways from a high-performance street racer to a capable off-roader. It was said that you could "strip" your car down and then "build" it up as you want but at this time it's not known whether this means pre-determined modifications and stages, or if it is as customisable as being able to build your own uniquely individual example. There will also be a "companion app", these seem to be the next-gen thing with many games coming with them, allowing players to customise their games or interact with the game without actually being their to play it. The Crew is due in 2014 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The Crew Videos Reveal Trailer E3 Demo Gameplay

  24. TDU3 or DSF2? With E3 only a week away now, more info has leaked about the rumoured racer to be coming from Ivory Tower and Ubisoft Reflections (Driver: San Francisco). Here's what we've heard so far: The Crew will probably offer a game experience close to DRIVER: San Francisco. The gameplay is rather semi-arcade, accessible, fun and efficient. The open-world environment is in North America, with the possibility to travel between New York City and Los Angeles (on a reduced scale). Like DRIVER: San Francisco, the map will be similar to "Google Maps". In "freeride", players will be free to choose between missions or challenges. Multiplayer will be competitive and co-operative with an upper limit of 8 players per-session. A companion app for mobile devices will be published The unknown source of this leak tested the game on the Xbox 360 console, but previous job listings seem to hint that a PS4 version is also in the works (Xbone more than likely too). The release date is expected to be announced before the end of 2013. Apprehensive? Excited? Cautiously optimistic? Come and discuss the latest on our forums!
