  2. Welcome To Blighty, Mate! Yeah sorry... cliche, I know. Unbelievable. The location of Forza Horizon 4 is the UK? Well bloody 'ell I'm excited. As IGN put it "Playground’s Britain looks to me like a decade of Top Gear episodes brought to life," and what's not to love about that? But anyway that's not all that's exciting. Let's get into the nitty-gritty. Location: 'Beautiful, Historic Britain' - So far there's only confirmation of England and Scotland (Edinburgh, Lake District, Cotswolds, etc), but I'm hoping we'll also see the excellent Welsh driving roads and of course the Isle of Man. (And yeah I wouldn't mind seeing my home country of NI... but that's unlikely now isn't it?) Dynamic livestock and fields! No really. "So wheat fields will appear green and fresh in spring [and] return to their characteristic golden colour in summer. In autumn you’ll see all that harvested and baled up, ready to go, and in winter obviously the field will be fallow" - art director Ben Penrose. New driving surfaces: dry mud, wet mud, compact snow, deep snow, ice, etc. There's an off-road adventure park! Vehicles: Over 450 vehicles. New customisation options such as 'Drift Suspension'. Cover cars are McLaren Senna and Land Rover Defender 90 - God bless the Queen! Gameplay: Shared world - goodbye drivatars! :D With up to 72 players per server there's no more need for drivatars.. isn't that fantastic? Don't fear the rammers - only your friends can crash into you. Strangers will be ghosted on contact. It's Not Always Online - if you're a bit of a lone wolf like myself you'll be happy to hear you can go be alone if you want. Well... alone with the drivatars. Seasons - Dynamic seasons; "Every season changes the world around you". Dynamic time of day. Dynamic weather. Dynamic seasons, TOD, and weather will be synced for every player so you'll experience it all together at the same time. Each season will last for 1 week. Purchase properties - Oh hi, TDU! Apparently, this includes Edinburgh Castle... I wonder how many Forzabucks that'll cost? Purchase businesses - Have you dreamt of owning your own taxi firm? You're in luck. 60FPS mode available on the Xbox X. Native 4K and HDR. Quick-chat - use the D-Pad to communicate with other players, useful for us Xboxers who CBA with a microphone! Co-Op - seamlessly enter co-op from within the game world. Up to 6 players. Forzathon Live - world events available for up to 12 players. Horizon Stories - Sounds reminiscent of TDU/TDU2 driving contracts; a bunch of "cool driving opportunities" like being a stunt driver in a movie. Avatar customisation - Sounds familiar, doesn't it? 500 apparel choices for both genders and even post-race emotes/reactions like GTA. More details when we have them :) Release date: October 2nd, 2018
  3. It's (almost) that time of the year again folks. E3 Games Expo 2018 begins with conferences starting on Saturday, June 9th, then opens to the public on Tuesday, June 12th. Here's what we've got to look forward to: Saturday 9th June Electronic Arts [11am PT | 2pm ET | 7pm BST] Kicking off E3 with the EA conference, we can expect to see the latest instalment of their EA Sports franchises such as FIFA, Madden, NHL, etc, as well as a new , and the addition of some new IPs such as Anthem from BioWare. Sunday 10th June Microsoft [1pm PT | 4pm ET | 9pm BST] Next up we have the Microsoft conference, which will be held next door to E3 because it's damn popular to fit in the LA Convention Center.. seriously. We can expect, as usual, a new Forza announced, Halo, Gears of War, and possibly a return of the Fable franchise if the rumours are true. Bethesda [6:30pm PT | 9:30pm ET | 2:30am BST] It looks like we can expect to see a new AAA title from Bethesda, a return of Elder Scrolls or more likely an expansion for Elder Scrolls Online, and some new DLC content for existing games. Oh.. and a NEW FALLOUT Monday 11th June Square Enix [10am PT | 1pm ET | 6pm BST] After the rousing success of Tomb Raider, it looks like we'll be getting a preview of the sequel, Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Final Fantasy fans can also look forward to seeing the remade FF7. Ubisoft [1pm PT | 4pm ET | 9pm BST] Ubisoft will continue to kick a dead horse build upon its legacy with additions to their long running franchises Assasin's Creed and Tom Clancy (The Division 2) and returning Beyond Good & Evil which is almost as old as I am. Maybe some more footage of The Crew 2? Sony [6pm PT | 9pm ET | 2am BST] Don't expect to see the PlayStation 5 just yet, the PS4 has got a few years left in it yet, but there will be plenty to look forward to such as Marvel's Spiderman and The Last of Us Part 2. Tuesday 12th June Nintendo [9am PT | 12pm ET | 5pm BST] Finishing off the conferences will be Nintedo's video presentation highlighting the upcoming Smash Bros for the Switch and a few other titles coming to the Switch such as Pokemon (we hope), new Kirby and Yoshi games, and perhaps a new Animal Crossing. 4. Gran Turismo Sport Release Date’ish Those waiting to hear about the actual release date for Gran Turismo Sport were given a little hope during the pre-show of PlayStation’s E3 briefing, as a new video dubbed the ‘Theme Music’ trailer was shown. As it started to roll, the text ‘COMING FALL 2017’ appeared, giving the first clear indication of an intended new release window being set for this year after all, and confirming that the game should be seeing a release sometime between September and November. (could we see both FM7 and GT Sport releasing in October?) Let’s talk about this latest trailer though. Playing out in a manner that represents that of a global preparation for a race with the safety car taking a run in the early morning around the courses, the team trucks arriving and offloading cars, and spectators arriving trackside. We are treated to the build up before the actual race event and it is all shown in the impeccable fashion that has come to be expected from, and consistently delivered, by Polyphony Digital. As the soundtrack starts to become more alive, it is now time to watch races take place across the numerous motorsports and locations that exist in the game. With the races coming to a grand finish, the end part is taken up by the winning driver and their celebrations. Even though this confirmation is loose, it’s the best we have at this time, and with a GT game, anything is better than nothing.
  5. Forza Motorsport 7 Announced Racing fans of all over were in high spirits while watching the Xbox E3 conference, as during the show the first showing and details of Forza Motorsport 7 were revealed. When you are one of the biggest names in the racing game scene it doesn’t take much to get people excited about a new one, however Forza games have always not taken this for granted and generally strive to eclipse what they delivered previous. And who better to talk about it than Turn 10 studio boss Dan Greenawalt. Up on the stage he delved into the many details about the game before presenting the first ever look at Porsche’s brand new 911 GT2 RS, which itself will be the cover car for the game. Personally I think this moment was wasted on the audience as many of them didn’t seem to realise what was actually happening. In the way that Gran Turismo is a showpiece for PlayStation, Forza Motorsport has become one for Xbox, and with the newly announced Xbox One X FM7 is going in all exhausts blazing to demonstrate what it's capable of: running at a native 4K resolution at the trademark 60fps the games are known for and displaying an image quality and clarity that has only been seen on higher-end PCs compared to console. Setting out to be the largest Forza ever, FM7 will have over 700 cars including as said by Greenawalt, “the largest collection of Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and Porsches”. That claim isn’t only about the car list either, there will be 30 environments consisting of over 200 track configurations, made up of real world circuits, locations and fictional creations from Turn 10. This is great to hear as FM games can tend to lack in the number of circuits available department, and some of this number will be made up of former entries to the series, with Mugello being one of the first of these to be spotted from the video (1m27s). Another desire of fans has been answered too, with the featuring of dynamic time-of-day and weather conditions. Customisation is always a favourite in any Forza game and FM7 has now expanded this to include… your driver. Players can personalise their male or female character’s appearance through a wide range of racing gear that spans multiple decades and areas of popular culture. During the show a pair of female racing drivers played through their own races, the first on one of the brand new Dubai layouts in a Porsche 911 GT2 RS, and the other racing a Nissan GT-R racecar around a wet and stormy Nurburgring. Set to launch from October 3rd for the Xbox One family and Windows 10, FM7 is exhibiting that it could be the game many players have been waiting for!
  6. Project Scorpio Becomes Xbox One X Microsoft has taken the covers off of Project Scorpio and revealed its real name to be, Xbox One X. Keeping the ‘Xbox One’ in the name shows that MS has stayed true to their promise that this is in fact just a super powerful version of their current console. Priced at $499 and launching November 7th, the One X is aimed at hardcore gamers and this new system is a seriously hefty step up from its siblings, the One and One S. With that sort of premium there has to be some monumental increases in power, and there is. A beefier Radeon GPU capable of pumping out six teraflops of graphical processing power, 12GB GDDR5 RAM and a built-in 4K Blu-ray player means native 4K visuals are a reality, although buyers without a 4K tv will feel and see the benefits on a 1080p set too. Despite being the most powerful of the Xbox One systems, amazingly the One X will also be the smallest! Incredible how over time technology gets to a stage where such a significant increase in power and performance can be scaled down to be even smaller. It’s not a massive difference between it and the One S but still it’s quite remarkable that this is the case. Perhaps surprising (at least to me it is) is that the included controller is not an Elite but instead a standard one. And is a 1TB HDD enough space for storing all those 4K native and enhanced titles that are to come? External storage is obviously an option but hasn't the ability to swap hard drives become the obvious and preferred choice these days? When rumours were circulating around the price being what it turned out to be, some were put off, however they were willing to accept it had these two items been more on the premium side. Whatever the case, the One X will be the most powerful console out on the market when it launches in November and will have to stick around for a few years before a next-gen Xbox can be shown. Well at least you would hope so.
  7. Skyrim 2.0 Is Go... Hello and welcome to yet another instalment of Open Letters! In this “weekly” column I write an open letter to something relating to news, or I respond to a letter sent in from one of you, the readers! (if you want to send in a question/concern for me to write about, email me at: [email protected]) This week however this article/column/trash-heap is aimed at Elder Scrolls VI Rumours. Rumours, they've ruined High School Prom, they've ruined your chances with Scarlett Johansson or Leonardo DiCaprio and now they're going to ruin your hopes and dreams of having Elder Scrolls 6 any time in the future. Pete Hines is the Vice President of PR/Marketing at Bethesda and he had some lovely words to say earlier this year about the upcoming sequel to Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim; what were those words? "Elder Scrolls VI is happening, but not any time s**n" The game itself has been described as "Skyrim 2", by Hines himself which leads to the thoughts of where the game will actually take place. My money is on Valenwood, since the Thalmor had a part in the war in Skyrim - but we have yet to see. The game itself will begin production as soon as the Fallout 4 DLC has stopped churning out, which should be by the end of the year - which means if they begin working on the game at the start of 2017 we may have the game itself out in 2019 or 2020 depending on game scale and if pre-production has already begun. So after getting your hopes up I shall now provide, my open letter to the Rumours of Elder Scrolls 6. Hello. I've heard you may be at E3 this year, we both know that's not true and I don't appreciate getting any hopes up for seeing the next instalment in this amazing franchise so please just don't rear your head on the internet again until you're ready to show yourself off. Thanks. Where will the game be? What role will you play? Will Talos ever be a God again? Guess we're going to have to wait to find out. Image credit: Christian Post
