  1. 2012 was an interesting year. Some wondered if it would be the last year, and of course a movie had to develop that plotline further. Perhaps worse than that, the official online servers for Test Drive Unlimited 1 were shut down, which made us all feel very sad. Not long later we had the release of the first open world Forza title for XBOX 360 which took us to a version of Colorado which strangely lacked Pikes Peak. It was a good game, and the start of a good series to fill in the void left by TDU, but it just wasn't the same. At least it still provided a few laughs. But that wasn't all. In March of 2012 we were treated to a new flight 'simulator' from Microsoft, which conveniently for us, featured Hawaii of all places. It was a freemium game with DLC planes, locations and challenges. A number of us do like to fly on PC on occasion. If you don't count the re-release of a 64-bit version of Flight Simulator X Acceleration on Steam in 2014, then the 2012 release of Microsoft Flight was our last flying update from Microsoft in 7 years. So imagine our delight when Microsoft surprises us with a gorgeous trailer showing us a new version of the simulator due to land (pun intended) sometime in 2020. Take a look for yourself here: The trailer doesn't tell us a great deal of details about the upcoming sim, but the amazing detail of the world (without having to purchase and install a hundred add-ons) in stunning 4K definitely has our attention here at TurboDuck. We'll be sure to make a beeline for O'ahu as soon as we can. Here's what we can deduce from the trailer and it's description: * Available on Xbox and Windows PC (so it should attract casual fliers) * Powered by satellite data and MS Azure AI Cloud computing * Amazing volumetric clouds which cast realistic shadows on the ground * SNOW * Bodies of water are not a singular colour, and cities have High Def textures out of the box * FOG * Delicious reflections on aircraft and detailed airport vehicle and building textures with shadows * A variety of light and stunt aircraft as well as jumbo jets, including the cover-plane from Microsoft Flight from Icon * Beautiful sunsets accompany expected time-of-day and weather settings * High-detailed 3D cockpits with the ability to turn your head, bank your aircraft and admire the view below * Many real-world scenic attractions to visit including what appears to be New York, Dubai, Alcatraz, Egypt, San Francisco, along with coral reefs, mountains, canyons, craters, stadiums, and more * Lighting and rain effects * Hundreds of vehicles on the roads and in the carparks below * Wildlife including flamingos, elephants, and giraffes * Multiplayer * Challenging Alpine landing strips Want to come fly with me? Let's fly, let's fly away to the Comments section below to discuss one of Microsoft's oldest slogan questions:
  2. Yea... just wondering... Does anybody have and fly in M$ Flight Simulator.
  3. Disclaimer: This is a made up story, any coincidence with reality it's just a coincidence :P Seems that being a pilot for those rich guys has its benefits. We were enjoying Naples city, under the watch of the Vesuvius. It was early in the morning, and I was enjoying an authentic Italian Capuccino, when my cell phone rings and a text message says that I have to get ready for the afternoon flight to Sicily, to the city of Catania, precisely. I searched for my charts, the sun was setting high on the sky as well as my hunger. So I went to a little bar to have a "Prosciutto di Parma", mozzarella, and rocket sandwich while planning the route that would take us over Tyrrhenian sea. The route was: SOR UQ58 VARAL UP748 AMANO UQ789 PELEN UQ789 COBBA No bad weather and/or winds. -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- Around 4 o'clock we were arriving at Capodichino, and about 5 we were starting the engines and getting ready to taxi to rwy 24 -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- Taxing to runway 24, an A320 takes off in front of us. -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- Soon after we took off and had our nose facing to Sorrento -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- Passing SOR, we take radial 156 to VARAL. After that whe make a turn heading 226° for 53 nm more (around 14 mins) to intercept radial 198 of SOR, our next waypoint. -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- While we were enjoying the cruise, I ask my boss/plane owner, why we were going to Catania. After that he tells me that there's an event for Ferrari owners on Pegusa Autodrome. A semi permanent circuit in the heart of the island, around Pergusa Lake. He also told me that there was a place for one more, and I was invited, so a life long dream became true, I was going to drive a Ferrari. The rest of the flight we were talking about cars and life, while the moonlight illuminated the cabin. -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- Calm flight, no head or tailwind... -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- After 40 minutes we were entering Sicily's coast, and we contact LICC_APP -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- While we were joining the approach pattern, the big jets passed us. We have turn 3 to land. -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- Short final, a bit high, but the runway was long enough for us. -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- We land, vacate runway and have a close encounter with a big jet! -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- We go to the platform and then to the hotel. Tomorrow we were going to drive the finest cars on Earth! The phone rang, time to wake up. It was early in the morning, and the track day included a day-pass, so we headed there. While were getting close, we could hear those Prancing Horse's engines sound!. We entered the circuit, during the morning we had advanced driving lessons for powerful and fast cars, some simulator and then lunch. After lunch the so awaited moment arrived. The finest selection of ferraris was there, from 288GTO to the F12 Berlinetta. Why talk? here are the images! -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- By the end of the day we came back to the hotel... Everything that I would drive was slow... But well, it was a great experience! Thanks for reading!
  4. TDU2 made it hard to fly around Hawaii, so let's see if MS Flight makes this any easier. This freemium game is designed to appeal to those who prefer arcade flying instead of a full-blown sim (although hopefully sim settings are still within). Grab the software from here and share your thoughts, pics, videos, etc. https://microsoftflight.com/en-US/home/ ---------- Post added at 15:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 15:13 PM ---------- I knew that the Games for Windows Live Marketplace products were a bit of a ripoff, but I'm feeling a tad more uneasy when I see the prices for currently available DLC: Microsoft Flight - Xbox.com If I understand corectly, Hawaii (the location) came free with a few missions, but to get the rest of them, we have to pay $20? Then you can spend $21 for two more planes? That's $41, or about half the price I paid for the ENTIRE FSX game (which contains numerous planes, and the WHOLE WORLD). Therefore I probably won't be purchasing any DLC until I get a better idea as to how much the entire game costs, by which time I hope there will be a heavily discounted bundle pack available.
