Random's Scion FR-S (aka GT86)

If I were to ever Rocket Bunny this car, there would have to be some serious upgrades to make it all look good together. So the $5000 for the kit doesn't include the extra $2000-3000 on wheels, tires, suspension and what not. But I doubt I ever will take it to that level lol.

Took a drive up to the mountains for the first time on Saturday. The FR-S handled so much better than I ever imagined. I wasn't even going very fast but being so low gives you that sensation of speed. I didn't really get to rev the engine out as much because I'm still stuck in the break in period but even at half revs this car was so good. And some truly epic roads up in that area as well. All in all, a great weekend

Temporary registration btw, haven't got the plates for it yet.

It's been awhile since I updated anything on this thread. The old girl is no longer stock due to some mods to let it breathe a bit more.

First off, a drop-in filter from HKS because JDM y0

Honestly, there really wasn't much of a jump in performance. There was a little bit more power, a little bit more intake noise, but for the most part the only significant changes were in throttle response and MPG, I'm getting about 40 on the highway now :D

Next up and more importantly is the Berk Technology single exit muffler delete. I am completely in love with the exhaust on the car now. It's quite aggressive now, but I wouldn't say it's anitsocially loud. It makes all sorts of lovely pops and crackles when I let off the gas, which is awesome.

As for what's coming up next, I'm looking at a set of wheels from Ambit Performance Wheels. They're a company that makes pretty good reps. My friend has wheels from them and he hasn't had a problem. They're about $500 for the whole set shipped.

They're 17x9 with a +35 offset so they should fit just fine. My only problem is getting the money for some good tires and all the hardware and installation that's required with them. That's about it for now, and here's a pretty picture because why not :)

Seriously man, spend that bit longer saving up for legit wheels, they look so much better, and are better quality than reps, you get what you pay for, it may take longer to get them, but at the end of the day it's worth it. Also you can get wheels from Japan for cheaper if you know the right people (@toby_sshhh on Instagram sells wheels reasonably often and may be able to get what you are after and sent to you pretty cheap)

Yeah I know what you mean, but for me my cars a daily driver and not really a show car or track car, so I don't think reps are the worst thing in the world. I think there are some decent reps out there if you know what to look for. I've heard a lot of good things about Rota and other such companies. Yeah they aren't as highly engineered as other wheels and I get that, but for a daily they should be ok. If I were tracking the car all the time, then I'd go for some nice legit wheels right away. We'll see what comes up though.

The main reason I don't like reps is that they rip off designs that other companies spent millions on in R&D and then produce them with inferior metals and techniques, even for a daily I would still rock genuine wheels for the fact that I am supporting the original designers and I have the peace of mind that it's a quality product. I have seen a lot of replica wheels get broken in drifting, I have seen them shatter when they hit a wall, and I have seen lips literally rip half way off the wheel when they tap a wall, I just don't trust them, I would go for legit wheels in a heartbeat, specially when they can be had secondhand from Japan for less than Rotas cost. But hey it's not my car so I can't tell you what to do with it, just putting in my 2 cents.

It's been absolute Eons since I updated this (I blame work and adulting for that) but seeing where I left off seems like an eternity ago. Since the last update it's been probably 30k miles and lots of changes. First off was the Carsmo lip spoiler which really added to the rear end of the car. Then I bought a set of Toms tail lights for $140 and finally the biggest change has to the the Powered by Max coilovers I bought. Never installed those lowering springs as it would turn out, decided the adjustability was worth it in the long run.

Next up on the list is a brake upgrade since my stock brakes are starting to feel worse and worse by the day, as well as a set of rear lower control arms so I have full camber adjustment front and rear. Once all thats done I'll focus on a new wheel set up and probably some kind of cheap front lip.

Here's the first shot with the new spoiler on the car. Circa April 2016

And here's a shot with the new tail lights.

And here they are lit up

And here she sits now with the coilovers and all the mods up to this point. A couple shots from 86fest here in SoCal a couple weekends ago
