  1. Ok for the Canon Eos range, the number of digits signify the "level" it is. The larger the number of digits, (like 1000D) the lower it is. The smaller the number (like 1D) the better it is. The 1D's a professional DSLR already, its not really for "consumers". There's 4 digits, 3, 2, and then 1. Within the "number of digits" range, the larger the number. the newer the model. 450D is older than 500D. Only exception is the Eos 5D and the Eos 1D. Going by my above analogy, the 5D should be better right? Nope, the 1D's better. But there are different 1Ds too, the Mk 1 and the Mk2. Its better that you do some research before buying ;) This is just a rough guide to the numbers in the model range. - Basically, less digits = higher in the range. (Civic 1.6 vs Type R). Larger the number within the "same number of digits range", the better/newer model it is. (Golf Mk 5 vs Golf Mk6)
