Definitely, but only if you're willing to spend more money in the future. As you get better you'll expect and want better stuff, which those Powershots can't. You're stuck with that lens for life. So basically if you're willing and ok to spend more in the future, definitely pay more for the DSLR. Its just so much more versatile.
