  1. Without a video to "prove" what you're saying, I'm going to assume that what you're all calling drifting is basically just some controlled powersliding, which is more or less possible. However, liking 2 powerslides in opposite directions (like in an "S" curve) is impossible. I've tried every possible setting, in HC and in Sport, with the impreza, the ruf, the mustang: drifting "ken block-style" (as in TDU1) is not possible with the current physics.

  2. I can understand your frustration, I think we all have it well with few exceptions. I'm not sure what Atari was thinking. Obviously they wanted to go mainstream and do a game for the consoles meaning more cash perhaps. Though I can't really work out what was wrong with tdu1's system. You had an arcade and an hardcore mode in the same game. It works brilliant , maybe it'll be a dlc , it's making me think..

Me neither. I mean they knew why we loved the first game and what we wanted to see added to it. What they basically did was add some of the stuff that we requested (changing weather, day/night cycle and...) and remove what made the first game such a joy to play around with. Wut

Oh the first was frustrating too, mainly the online part where you'd roam around for up to 30mins waiting for your mate to appear, but even the moon gravity was actually fun when you'd try to find the biggest jumps on the map to try and fly as far as possible (good memories there ). But since it was the first game ever to give us this sandbox online gameplay, you didn't care at all for all its shortcomings. This is however not the case for the second one. I also face the issue of having a difficult time to find really good games to play lately (this is just my own perspective on gaming). I feel like there's always such a hype made around every single game only to find out it's just the same stuff we've already seen and sadly TDU2 doesn't escape that fact, for me at least.

HC was a DLC on consoles for TDU1, however I suspect it was just a feature that was already built in and activated by downloading the DLC (since it was unlockable for free on the PC once you'd finish the SP races). I don't think the current handling can be "patched", at least, I've never seen a game that had this done to it...

  3. How to make it better and less boring? Simple: gimme TDU1's Hardcore mode so I can DRIFT, then we'll talk. Do we really need anything else? I could have dealt with all the face buchery, horrible acting/uber-gay voices, the boring SP campaign, the millions of pre-order exclusives and tiny car list and the genuine feeling of a game that, like GT5, feels kinda old in some ways, if only I would have been given the ability to enjoy driving.

Let's face it, the most boring part of this game is the driving. It's uneventful and stiff. No joy in driving any of the cars at all (except offroad which is kinda fun). It's just frustrating 'cause you know you want to throw the back of that mustang around in the next corner and you know that you either end up backwards or off the road. After trying for litteraly hours to change the settings of the pad and different cars, I gave up.

Sold my game 2 weeks ago, unless I see that something is being done for the handling, I won't pick it back up...

  4.

I dont get what people are saying about the handling at all. If you want hyper realism buy a car, if you want as close as you can come buy a simulator or go for the lesser option and buy forza and if you want a rich person simulator with arcade aspects buy test drive. The handling may not be accurate but its fun and fits in well with the theme as these arnt racetracks were dirving on.

    Indeed I think you don't ;)

Nobody wants a simulator. Like most here (I suppose), I drive in real life and I don't want to come home and play a game where I have to handle a car like if it was real.

What people probably mean for the most part when they criticize the handling is...they (and I) are used to drive in H mode in TDU1. It is not realistic at all (moon gravity anyone?) but it's fun and challenging, and of course, it allows you to drift. I spent hours drifting in the first game and now I can't. No matter how hard I try, it is impossible. This renders TDU2 somewhat useless to me because I'm not experiencing joy but frustration when I drive a car in TDU2.

If you just drive around with mates in TDU2 and don't care for a challenging handling then yeah, you will enjoy TDU2. But to me all the little features that were added just don't quite make up for the handling/gameplay/physics or however you want to call it.

I hope they will hear all the calls for a patch that gives us something more enjoyable driving-wise, but I doubt it'll happen.

  5. Sure, I think so. There's always going to be complaints about every awaited game, because everyone has "Is it worth it" thoughts and look for the negatives. Sure, the physics may not be the same as GT5 or FM3, but they're sure as hell better than TDU1 (speaking from an X360 player, can't speak for G25 use).

The graphics are great, the day/night cycle is a nice aspect, the cars are detailed (with better sounds than the first TDU, but again, not GT5/FM3 level), there's a lot to do, a lot of furniture to furnish your house with, a lot of houses, a lot of cars, a lot of clothes. I think it's great, but if you're looking for a simulation (which appears to be what a lot of TDU2 players with complaints are looking for), then look past TDU2. If you want a huge, open world, with lots to interact with, lots to do and lots of places to go, then you shouldn't be too unhappy with TDU2.

Have we been playing the same game :oook:? I fiddled with the settings for hours, its a no go. In TDU1 you were able to know where a car's limit was, here you can't. I agree with the rest (graphics, a lot to do) but the driving makes it a no-joy sort of game. It's like playing Crysis with waterpistols and a clown nanosuit.

I really guess it is down to a personal opinion, taste. But i dont think the playability factor will last as long as tdu1.

I think any real driving game fan will give it a miss.

    What I think too.

In the end I'd say try it before you buy it. If you don't care for how cars handle then you may enjoy or even love it. If however, you like to drive in TDU thinking your Clarkson and burn some rubber and scream "POWAAAA", you're going to hate it.

  6. Back on topic, does anyone think the game's even worth buying? I'm not sure whether to get it at release on Thursday or not, but my thoughts tend to the latter...

Here's my 2 cents, it's as honest as I can be.

After playing it, this is how I would sum up TDU2:

-Take TDU1, remove what made it good (hardcore mode and decent car list)

-Then add all the things that should have been in TDU1 (weather conditions, day/night, moving parts, slightly more detailed tuning options, offroad)

    *shake* & voila, TDU2.

The sense of déjà-vu after 15 hours of playing it is quite strong. It really feels like TDU1 in many good ways (environments, map, car dealers etc) but this "déjà-vu" also includes the bad aspects which were already annoying 5 years ago, 2 examples:

-The sounds suck, I don't understand how you can have licensed cars and make them sound this bad. I was looking forward to test drive the 430 Scuderia just to find out it sounds like a riced prius. Great job guys.

-The LCD displays in some cars are STILL NOT working (i.e. current gear etc). I mean...really? Is it that hard to make this happen? These are the little things that make a game that little much better. Oh, and you got rain, but no windshield wipers. This makes just no sense.

The problem to me is, that this game has an obvious giant potential but it is fundamentaly flawed by being too much like the first game where it should not. There's nothing that really makes it worth getting imo, unless your a face surgery fan or like to put bad looking stickers on your car. Or, unless you don't care about the above and have a bunch of friends that will get it. Then yeah, it's likely that you'll spend some good times with it.

There's no doubt that the MMOR aspect of the game will probably save it from compete failure, and this is not a good thing.

    :hsquad:

Have we been screwed? Yes we have.

  8. Mmm we live in the 21st century and they came up with something called "video-sharing sites". So I was on youtube and saw quite a few videos. Also I played the beta, also I saw the car list, also I saw the complaints, really can't you guys open your eyes and see that we've been screwed.

You can't even see every car from TDU1 in this game.

I managed to make a better game by modding my TDU1 :| Seriously if people don't agree with this, then I dunno, maybe you didn't buy the game for driving experience but casino and other stuff...

Beeing screwed is a big word but I sort of agree. Been playing the game a bit already and well...I dunno, feels like TDU 1.2 with a new map. Hate me for saying this and complaining but I think it's time we stop BSing ourselves. No doubt it'll be fun once my mate gets it as well though.

However I can't believe how bad some cars sound. I test drived the 430 Scuderia and it sounds like a mosquito stuck in a plastic tube. Only sounds I really like are the Veyron's and the Atom's, the rest is meh. It is indeed "lolable" to hear the Ferrari California get out of the garage, sounding so awesome, only to find out that it's not the car's ingame sound.

  9. I take it then you participated in the [NDA]? And your basing your whole decision on buying the game on that? If you have played both the [NDA] and the final version, then i can listen to your comments, but the facts i see from people who HAVE played the final version show massive differences between the 2 copies, it's a bit stupid just to base it on experience of the [NDA]

He bases his opinion on the fact that nothing was adressed to the handling issue during the beta play, which is now over. We never got feedback from the devs about this nor did any of the few versions of the beta change in any good way with the physics. Driving was dull and uninteresting, drifting impossible. That's a fact.

Now of course, Mellors said that there was a huge difference between the beta and the in-house version they got the chance to play. Still, if you would have played the beta you'd also be like WTF. I mean, when every body is agreeing on the fact that the first game was miles more fun in terms of driving, there's obviously an issue somewhere. Not mentionning the lack of proper communication on the matter. All we heard was "we developped a new physics engine" that doesn't seem to be there at all

And the people who have played the final version, who are they? How many? Because thousands of people from the beta agree on the above. I wish I'm wrong, but the beta killed my excitement :ill:

I'm still keeping an eye on the game, watching the vids and all. We'll see how it plays all out when all those who pre-ordered play it :)

  10. God I want to love this game...I realize now I wish I hadn't been in the beta...

I got to hand it to eden/atari for the editing quality of the presentation videos. I just wish they'd show more of what's really important, namely the handling and physics. The whole social aspect of inviting some poeple to my house is something that I find uber-useless....

  11. I'd go for 4. Don't know their cars.

I've seen a good few people mistake the MP4-12C for a Lamborghini.

Yup, I believe this is what the case was in this preview. No point in hiding the inclusion of Lamborghini

Anyway, that comment from the author of GamerReactor sounds like some good news, finaly. Although I'm still a bit skeptical seeing as he says that this game is as close as you can get to GT5 on the xbox...right, and forza 3 is what, a vaccuum cleaner sim? (please don't troll if there are GT5 fanboys around)

  12. Meh. I think I'll hold off on getting TDU2 until I see some better additions over DLC.

No ZR1, CTS-V, Challenger, GT500 (they have the 2007 one, but that's not good enough when there's newer versions, and that this one is four years old), Viper ACR, or at least the 2010+ Mustang GT?

As t. said, they should really expect Americans to want to be able to drive American cars (like they did in TDU1 with their variety of American muscle cars from the late 60's, early 70's, and today). But by putting cars in the game from several years ago that have newer well-improved versions, I don't see how they would get anyone from America to really want to play TDU2.

Sorry, but the Camaro SS, Viper SRT-10, '07 GT500, Charger SRT-8, '06 Mustang GT, and Shelby Cobra Daytona don't cut it for me. In my view, this game is hardly marketed towards Americans. I'll stick with TDU1 for now. :sulk:

At least you have your 'stang, I don't have my murcielago

  13. Well Mellors especially commented on the distinct different feel of the handling in the build we played at NBP. BTW Gamersyde and I guess others get to try out the game next week so more info should be coming shortly, then again so is the game anyway. :p

Yea, the handling of the version we played at NBP was completely different to the beta and was far superior in my opinion. The cars actually felt somewhat like cars. It wasn't perfect but it was really fun. I just hope they stick closer to the version we played as the bet never portrayed those physics.

Well if it really is so, then all hope is not lost, good to hear :)

  14. I'm sorry but if the physics in the beta is what they consider something to simulate everything, I'm either not playing right or it's just a load of BS. Driving the cars in the beta is about as exciting as eating a melon.

I can only hope that the in-house version of the game has this physics engine rendered to its full potential, otherwise this video is just a bunch of marketing lies.

Don't mean to disappoint anyone, but it really is nothing exciting.

Also I love how the guys says "We have 90+ cars now" in a proud way. Right. There were 130+ in the first one AND there weren't any pre-order specials.

    Meh...

  15. I'm going to be honest, 24mins doesn't make it too realistic but it seems like a minor thing compared to large issues that the game still has (handling and cars for instance).

There are 2 vids vimeo, one of the driving school and one with and RS6 avant (both from a beta that is more advanced than the current one that is available to testers) and believe me, the handling looks horrid...

  16. Wasn't it said somewhere before that the reason lambo wasn't in was too low budget?

    E: Ninja'd xP

I think so, but I just find it astonishing as Lamborghini are usually in every single racing game, for better or worse. They always struck me as a company who enjoys being in video games, you know, unlike Ferrari (they aren't in HP for instance). I'm happy we are given quite a lot of Ferrari's however. But still, I'm going to miss my murcielago that has well of 5'000Km in the first game...

I don't really know how the whole licensing stuff is dealt with, how much money is involved and so on. It's too bad this amazing game is being let down by this. Honestly, they could have left out all the haircut/facial surgery/social crap out of the game and done it like in the first one, only improve it a little (like making finding friends easier).

Oh well, nothing we can do now but hope they live up to their word when they say "we are listening to you" because now is really the time to listen :p

Oh and merry christmas, there's still a minute left :p

  17. Alot of people dont like it because of the Lambo's but i think modders will make it (hopefully). But guys d*mn Audi RS6 Avant my dream car FINNALY !!!!!!!!!

As much as I appreciate modding, it's just not the same.

I don't see why Lamborghini wouldn't let Atar/Eden make their cars. I mean c'mon, if Ferrari are in it and the game even has police chases and car damage, lambo should definetly be in...from the start...

Curious as to see how Eden will respond to the massive criticism from players on the car list. They can't do nothing...right? :ill:

  18. I will buy TDU2 for 2CV, beetle and D-Type cause it's a new experience driving that only great racing game offer, like FM3 or GT5 :bunny:

10, 100 or 1000 super cars is the same thing, cause it's always the same type of feeling for all these cars, gave for people who think that drive at 300 km/h on open roads is a natural thing, people who speak about driving experience just in having on their arcade game the right 3Dmodel of the 50th version of Gallardo or another stupid AMG steril clones , wich they will tunne to Level 3 and get 450km/h irrealist speed without mind to test the real and original physics.

Says the guy with a Veyron as Avatar lol :p

I don't agree at all. It's supposed to be a game where you can do anything. I know some people enjoyed driving like old people in the first one, like right at the speed limit...I want to drive like a madman in fast cars because I don't do this IRL. I fail to see the point of a 2CV in TDU2 as is because there's just too many other cars missing :/. It will be fun for sure, but meh...

  19. All I can say is people are unhappy on all TDU2 dedicated forums/topics. Many of them have a poll and absolutely no-one takes the option "wow great car list".

I'm ok with DLC's for as long as the initial game has a lot to play with. Forza 3 for example had a big car list of what, 400 cars initially? Paying a few € for some more cars did not seem like a rip-off at all.

But if Atari are planning on making more money be releasing car packs of 5-10 cars every months (I'd say a decent car list would be around 200 for a game like this) that's 10-20 DLCs at let's say 5€, way to take us for fools.

I really expected an EVO to go with the Impreza tbh.

  20. Oh. Ma. GAD.

*opens the topic to see the list axiously*

    *goes through it"

    "Goes What the Hell????*

Somebody slap me in the face but this is the worst car list for a racing game I have seen in ages. Not that the cars are bad but it looiks so small, so uninteresting. I thought TDU2 would bring out loads of new cars to drive around, how wrong could I be.

A part from the Impreza, there's nothing I want to drive, not even the over-hyped veyron.

Hell guys, seriously. I hope they're not scheming a thousand DLC's to bring us lambos and whatnot because you know that they know we all love lambos. There's almost no other car I used in the first game than my beloved Murcielago (Yes I know what you'll say "so why are you complaining then?").

I haven't been this disappointed in a while, will definetly reconcider buying. A casino and being able to paint my car with various stickers and good enough for me, not even a second island.

[mod edit:] Rules still apply, do not swear or imply it, thanks!
