SimRaceWay Announces New Vehicle Pricing Scheme

Exclusive Cars Made More Affordable; Less Exclusive

SimRaceWay is one of those F2P titles that doesn't seem to make a lot of noise in the virtual racing community, possibly due to their other sources of income (selling hardware and involvement in real world racing). This is a bit of a shame, since they offer quite a decent driving experience and in contrast to SimBin's R3E, you get a considerable amount of free content (all tracks and a selection of cars, with varied free test drives each week).

SimRaceWay's main controversy was the way they priced their DLC cars (which can also be purchased with in-game credits if you choose to grind enough). In-game prices were proportional to real-world car value, so players could spend up to $38.00 on just one car, and if we have to be brutally honest, the visual presentation of vehicles leaves a bit to be desired when compared to the likes of Forza and Project CARS models.  Of course, on the flip side, common cars were less than $1 each.

If you are a car connoisseur, you will be happy to hear that SimRaceWay are balancing out the car prices. Under the new scheme, cars will still be priced according to real world value, but only 3 price points exist now, namely $2.50, $5.00 or $7.50. So there are savings up to 80% to be found. Of course, the bad news is that the cheaper cars have their price increased to $2.50. Can't win them all, I guess. Of course, weekly specials will continue as per normal, meaning further savings for patient members.

So, should I try this out? If you have a racing wheel and some time to burn, SimRaceWay is worth a look-in. The graphics and sound engine is dated, and having to download content and updates from inside the game instead of pre-downloading everything in advance is somewhat annoying, but after setting up controller settings correctly, the driving experience is rewarding.

AI and online opponents are available to race, and both so far have offered enjoyable racing. Every clean lap you complete in any mode will add to your in-game credits which you can spend on any vehicle when you have saved enough. Winning online races and time trials are a faster way to increase your virtual currency. It's also worth noting that SRW employees are very accessible, quick to respond to feedback and are extremely nice to deal with.
