Is ToCA making a return? BTCC's Matt Neal was at Codemasters today.

    ToCA Talk

Here's something interesting, those of you who can remember the ToCA Touring Cars games before they became Race Driver and then GRID will no doubt recollect how good they were, because they essentially were the BTCC -  in what could be regarded as its best days - in game form. Top tracks, brilliant selection of cars and handling that was authentic with AI that was fierce and didn't mind getting stuck in.

So this little mention via twitter today by current BTCC Racing Driver for the Honda YUASA Racing team, Matt Neal, is all the bit very interesting as he mentions how he was at Codemasters today "helping tuning tracks and cars" and to "watch out for their two new driving games". Now it's no secret that people are expecting DiRT 4 as well as the new Formula 1 for this year, so is that it or are we going to be seeing a return to ToCA or perhaps even Race Driver again, how will this affect GRID if so or will it be another franchise for Codies to add to their already impressive catalog of superb racers? I guess only time will tell.

Matt Neal was at Codemasters helping tune tracks and cars?

    Thanks - twitter

      New ToCA game.... yay!

Codies are making it.... oh umm ok

Codies haven't made a good driving game (for me) since DiRT 2, let's hope they get their act together for this one.

I sense good things for Codies this year. :) DiRT 4 will be more sim, F1 2014 will be great on the PS4 and One, then if a BTCC game comes true, I'm sure they'll look at what they did right back in the ToCA days. :D

:D Yeah, I'm having faith. I hope F1 2014 will be an entirely new game (Instead of the annual update that the game seems to get, after peeking into the database file) due to next gen, and I enjoy the BTCC and DiRT. :D

F1 will be a big update. They held back last year and avoided the next-gen consoles. I think we'll be in for a treat. Coupled with all the new regulations, it'll be a winner.

As for the BTCC. 2014 is going to be the biggest year for the BTCC since the Super Touring era. The grid is completely full, no more cars can enter, Red Bull are sponsoring the defending champion, Honda are showcasing new cars on the track and you've got seven champions on the grid. If they're going to do a BTCC game, it HAS to be this year...

I'll be getting F1 2014 anyway, despite whether it has improved a lot or not, because I want to support the use of the F1 licence. :-)

I buy Codies games even if they're complete rubbish. I love the company and I don't want them to die. They've not got it easy at present, but if we stop buying their games, they'll never make better ones.

Exactly. That's why I own all TOCA, GRID, F1 and DiRT games. Not to mention some rally games before DiRT..

It's all about the bigger picture. Not all their games were bad, and it's good to see they fully focussed on racing games, because that seems to be the forgotten genre..

Tom Jacobs summed it up the other day. All reviewers and customers care about these days is shooters. If Codies bite the bullet, take the plunge and do all-out on some slightly more hardcore racers, they'll be back with a bang. They need to stop catering for the casual audience because EA/NFS has that covered. Hell, I might even buy the three rumoured 2014 games on PS4 AND PC! :D

Sad thing is though, from what I understood of the customer poll of GRID 2, it was intended to battle with Need for Speed. I have hopes F1 and DiRT will become slightly more simulatorish now, though, because of F1 Race stars and DiRT Showdown. :D

GRID 2 wasn't a bad game, it just wasn't as good as the original. Codemasters don't do arcade very well. They've already said DiRT 4 is going to be more sim-oriented, but by how much remains to be seen. There won't be another Race Stars I don't think so F1 will remain in a sort of middle ground.

GRID 2 was fine, except some bugs and the poor handling system. Lets hope for the best for this year! :D

With the ever-growing car list taking shape Project CARS also looks like it'll offer a good BTCC and GT3 experience which is great, but I won't say no to a dedicated title as well. It's been too long since Aussie V8 Supercars were given proper attention as well (ToCA 2 & 3).

Being Anthony Reid in the Nissan primera racing around thruxton with awesome sensitivity the toca game beat gt 1-5 apart from graphics. I'm babblin. If its British touring cars please get it as close as possible to the real thing. Just play the tv setup on a computer include in-between races the lot.. Lets drive televised motorsport.
