  1. Well, I don't want to turn it off completely. I just want to tone it down a bit, as it gets a little too white-out and I can't see 50 feet in front of me (try Tantalus in that!). What if I only delete one or two of the lines? Thanks
  2. Is there a way to turn down the fog? It's like pea soup - no. Pea soup should be this thick! It's a little too much like when I got caught in a snow blizzard in the north (Ohio, I think). Now, we don't get such things in my part of Texas or here in Florida, so it's not something I care to relive. Nice mod, though. I know every inch of TDU Oahu, and there were a few instances when I had to double-check my location, it looked so different!
  3. Cool, NP. Also, I'm not sure that a really great number of people are going to be migrating to TDU2, at least not those on PCs. It looks like TDU2 is going to be another arcade-y console game. I sure don't plan on moving to TDU2 any time soon, and I've been waiting years for it. I'll wait to see how things shake out after release. Thanks to iLLusion, I'll have TDU1 in new-found splendor to bide my time with while atari scrambles to recoup the PC players $$ (... or not!). I'll swap the roadpatch.bnk file with my backup and do some cruising (gotta do it now - F1 2007 race at Salzburgring on my server later tonight!!).
  4. I read Destra's "explanation" and wondered if he works for the government, LOL. All those words to say, like he did at the start, 1 minute = 6 seconds. Then he should have said, "therefore, TDU2 time is 1/10 of real time. So, 24 hours in TDU2 time (divided by 10) is equal to 2.4 hours in real time. Done.
  5. I just heard about this mod last night (yeah, I live in a cocoon!), loaded up the Lite version and it is very nice! The road textures make it look so much more realistic. Can't say I care for changing the big-leafed plants (we thought they were over-size pineapple plants) from green to pink, but that's just a small quibble. Any thought about adding name marquees to places and buildings, ala (dare I say it?) NFS? TDU is a pretty sterile world without people, but places or businesses with no names or marquees (like the zoo, Waikiki Beach, Aloha Tower, Pali Lookout, Barber Point Beach, etc.) makes it look... dead! Good mod. Great work. Congratulations! -------------------------------- EDIT: Am I to understand that if I remove the Roadpatch.bnk file, the black squares in the road will go away?
  6. Just saw your post, don't know how I missed it before, LOL. I used to play GTR:EVO, R07 and RACE ON alot until I realized the tire grip is way off. I thought it was me, until I read an interview of a real-life WTCC driver who tried R07. He said the cars, IRL, are much more bonded to the road. Even Simbin has admitted to the problem. It makes Pro mode even more unrealistic. But, if you like your games more difficult than realistic, Simbin games are for you (meaning anyone). I still play RACE ON (I prefer the F3000 and Formula Master myself over the tin tops), but I change the tire grip variable in the GDB files to make it more realistic. I would rather have fun with a game than get frustrated trying to play an unrealistic one. That's why I like cruising and not racing in TDU. A game that is harder than real life is no more realistic than one that's easier.
  7. Quite a few people enjoy HC mode and I say more power to them if it keeps them playing TDU. Ryzza's right: too many people just don't slow down for turns or even corners. Because of that, I tend to stay out of places like Shark's Cove unless it's with people I know that can handle their cars, HC mode or not. I've always liked to try and stay as close as I can behind someone without hitting them. It's the challenge, I guess, and fun. I think it has taught me how to stay involved in a cruise without causing alot of crashes. Respect the people you cruise with and you'll rarely cruise alone. :D
  8. TDU1 has devolved into groups in HC mode in A cars, and those not in HC mode. It's whatever will get you to play a 4 year old game. For some reason HC'ers tend to avoid those not in HC mode (why is that? I cruise with people some in and some out of HC mode. Some of the people I know who usually cruise in HC mode go to normal mode when cruising with me, but I don't ask them to. Cruise in whatever mode you like, I say). Driving every day IRL, following the rules, stuck behind some really dumb people who just can't seem to go anywhere near the speed limit, being tailgated by some nut no matter how much OVER the speed limit you go . . . I like to cruise "at speed" in TDU - no speed limits (which are ridiculously low), stop signs or traffic lights gonna' slow me down. I cruise in the lanes (even oncoming lanes) and only go on to the shoulder or off road to avoid an accident, but I do it as fast as I can, so I kinda' "follow the rules". But I drive a C car and sometimes a D car. My preference is the C6 (top speed: 200 MPH). But then I do my best to avoid the main roads used by most cruisers (H1, north shore, most of the ocean side roads etc.) I also slow down for turns, but then I don't usually use the GPS map so I have to look for the big green signs and the white arrows on the road as cues for when I'm approaching a turn. I will turn it on when I'm with a group, just to help keep track of everyone; I don't want to leave anyone behind. It's so much more fun cruising in a group. I'll try to connect to you if I ever see you on the map. :D
  9. I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (2.2Gh dual core) and I had to install the AMD Optimizer to clear up the slight stuttering I was getting. Works great, too. I have a 512meg 9800GT GPU and I run TDU with everything on max and HDR @ 1680x1050/32 and I only get a slight bit of stutter in the city if I'm with 7 others.
  10. not really. Most driving games require a better GPU than a good CPU. Even an old 256meg 8600GT would work better than onboard video. I know, I ran with one for years. Couldn't run HDR at 1680x1050 (monitor's native res), but now I have a 512meg 9800GT and I can run HDR now, everything else on full/max. The XFX 9800GT was the only card that would fit in my 5 year old case. I was in the open beta Saturday, though, and had to turn down my res for it. The 9800 ran slow at 1680x1050, but it was still OK. So, for TDU2, you're gonna' need something a whole lot more powerful than onboard video . . . .
  11. Google ASUS, click SUPPORT, click drivers link. There will be three dropdowns to select from: Select Product>graphics card. Select Series>ATI Selct Model>EAH3870 This will take you to a new screen where you will enter an OS. Find the latest driver and DL (Save it). Go to Control Panel and remove your current driver. Reboot and close the window app that appears that says it found new hardware when you reboot. Go to where your new driver is * and double click it to install. * I created a DOWNLOAD folder under My Documents where I put everything I DL into a subfolder using the name of what I DL - easy to find that way. ASUS link: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us EDIT: oh yeah! Do you know your current version? Do you run CCC (Catalyst)? If so, run Catalyst and it will tell you the version. If not, I use PC Wizard (free DL). It will definitely tell you, and it also gives you alot of other vital info the OS just doesn't tell you (like tempteratures!). Wait . . . Canada, right . . . let me check . . Sorry for double post, but here's the link you need for Asus Canada Dl page: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
  12. Yeah, which 8 o'clock? Atlantic, eastern, central, mountain, or pacific?
  13. I'm sorry to be such a noob, but I just want to be sure. Do you mean this folder?: C:\Program Files\Atari\Test Drive Unlimited\Euro\Bnk\DataBase
  14. If you're talking about the number next to the little man on your GPS, that number can never go past 8 or below 1 (you). The maximum number of people you can cruise with is 7 (8 = you + 7 others). As far as not seeing anyone else in game, Anti and I spent over 5 hours last night cruising around and came across no one. We did pick up Rtoups after awhile, but the only reason we knew he was trying to connect was because he was on my TS channel. Miglater also tried to connect but failed. So sometimes you'll cruise by an area and pass a group of cruisers and your GPS count will go up. As you move away from them (or they move away from you), it'll drop back down.
  15. Sooo . . .what's the latest? A comprehensive post with all the updates, modifications, encountered problems, etc. would be great. I'm running XP(32) with a couple of sound mods and the deluxe paint shop for all cars mod. Very clean system. What problems might I encur with this patch? How would I return to my original settings if I can't get it to run correctly? p.s. I don't mind being directed to a previous post if these questions have previously been answered - I miss alot of things, so I may have missed that. Thanks, and great job Djey! I hope to add this patch once I have all my ducks in a row. :D EDIT: What does this mean? What is "IK"? All your camera and IK swap must be set again.
  16. Google Map Hawaii and you'll see them all. Too bad they haven't done Street View there yet!
  17. Nah, staying on the right road here isn't hard it all. It's basically the Queen K to the Pali, the Pali to the freeway access road, on over to the Likelike. Here, I would suggest taking the Likelike all the way to Mokapu Peninsula via the Mokapu Blvd and around to the H3 (there's a "deadman's curve where the road turns west!). Or, if you want a shorter route, You can take the Kahekili exit (right after passing under the H3), pull a U-ee, and get on the H3 from there. It's a nice route without too many needs for signaling turns (something I just despise doing as I just can't drive and type at the same time - so I use TS, but not everyone wnat's to listen! I wonder why?) BTW, I seem to have missed the new carpack offering an R8 . . . . LOL! So it's a "B" car cruise - the Noble's a "B", right? I haven't driven mine in ages.
  18. I didn't see a thread for this, and SEARCH turned up nothing, so I thought I'd start one as drivers come out every month or so and sometimes they aren't as good (for TDU) as the previous ones. If you have a problem with a driver, post it here. If a driver cures a problem for you, post it here. Let others know how a new driver affects your TDU. MSI 256 meg 8600GT TDU ran fine on 182.5. Updated to 185.20 and got stuttering. Updated to 190.38 and the stuttering actually got worse. Went back to 182.5 and everything is fine again. A friend has an 8800 (I don't know the model). He runs 190.38 just fine. Come February I rebuild a new PC. I hope to get Quad SLI! :D
  19. Here's an idea for discussion: How about a Cruise and Challenge sub-forum? The idea would be to post up cruises and posted Custom Challenges. I saw a thread on Custom Challenges and thought why not combine the two. The Challenges would be posted up with the name and set parameters. For example, I have a CC set up right now (for the next three days) called "East Stadium Run". The parameters are: Timed Challenge No cops No driving gauge Traffic set to two icons (shorthand would be: Traffic=2) Any view Checkpoints displayed (I use them to help show the way) Driving aid=driving aid (I just left it as is. See below for further explanation) Car limit=Caterham The idea here is to post up a Challenge and see how people respond. After three days, I'll change the car to, oh, say, Enzo Ferrari or Camaro or ...??? That will change the Challenge quite a bit - same Challenge, different car. Maybe add more traffic or take some out, add cops, change Driving Aid, etc. One thing I will never do is add a Driving Gauge - I hate those things. And since I post them with no Entry Fee or Winnings (it's all in fun), cheaters don't matter (in fact, they'll probably ignore any Challenge that doesn't have a payout!) I might offer the winner $9 million (I buy a cheap car from them on TRADE for $9 million, but it would have to be won by a legitimate racer - no cheaters). Cruises: Post a themed cruise, name the car class and general route, date and time and see what you get. These do seem to be dying out lately, but we gotta' keep busy until TDU2 comes out, or NFSWO works out as a race AND cruise game . . . . Ideas? Thoughts? :)
  20. LOGITECH PROFILER: Options>Global Device Settings: Overall Effects Stregth: 55% (NOW: 38%) Spring Strength: 32% (NOW: 20%) Damper Effect Stregth: 32% (NOW: 20%) Enable Centering Spring: unchecked Report Combined Pedals: unchecked Allow Game to Adjust Settings: checked Axis Properties of Steering, Accelerator and Brake: I set to the very middle. TDU: Somewhere near the middle for me, same for the FFB setting. Remember: the MOMO only has 300 degrees, so steering will be more sensitive than on a G25. Also remember that it'll take a bit of getting used to, so practice a bit with one car and about 20 or so miles. I'd recommend the road going north into Kelekole Pass and then through Kelekole as a good "shakeout" test. Oh, and if you like to shift, I myself would suggest going with automatic until you get used to the steering. One thing at a time is the way I did it.
  21. According to the ASUS site, it's an ATI processor, so try the latest Catalyst driver from them.
  22. I use a MOMO and I like it very much. 1. It is not "harder" to drive with a wheel, but it isn't really easier. It takes alot to set up as there are many settings, both for the wheel itself and in TDU. You have to tweak a little here, test it, tweak a little there, test it, etc. Get other peoples settings and start there, then adjust to your style. 2. Yes, you can maintain a constant speed. I'm guessing you can't with whatever you're using now? That does seem that it would be difficult driving like that (although my wife does that in her real car!). 3. I used to use a joystick mounted on a homemade stand that sat on my right side (just like an F-16 Falcon). It was fun, and is still better than a wheel for the bikes, but , yes- a wheel is the best way to play a driving game. 4. Never used a controller for TDU. Only used one on a 360. I don't care for controllers, so that is an "each to his own" thing. Of course, I think a wheel is more "realistic" for a driving game, although it doesn't seem Atari agrees - check the very end of the README file - it has a LONG list of unsupported wheels for TDU; a driving game that doesn't support the most popular wheels, LOL! 5. Definitely worth it, even if TDU was your only driving game. Now as to the difference between a MOMO and a G25: The G25 has a seperate H-gate shifter. The MOMO shifter is attached to the wheel housing and is sequential only. I do not use it for shifting - I use the paddles. I use the shifter "buttons" for e-brake and car-reset. The G25 has 900 degree and (???) another degree I don't remember (or is that the DFP?). THe MOMO has 300 degree only. Of course the 900 is more like a real car, whereas the MOMO is more like an F1 car. It's just me (and I have not tried a G25), but I do like not having to turn the wheel that much. I guess I like my cars to be set up like an F1 car, LOL. It's your choice.
  23. 99% chance I'll be at the Lexus dealer at 10 tonight, but I'm not sure what car - maybe the Competizione.

    1. OK, I joined TDUC. Who else is on here from our group?
