  1. But you reworded his post with exactly the same opinion, therefore what you had said had already been said. If ya get me.
  2. Ironically the 8800GTX are more expensive than the 9800GTX and aren't as good. XD
  3. I was looking at the 9800 GTX on OcUK and the clock speeds are pretty sweet even on the cheapest version they sell. And it's £23ish cheaper than 2 8800GT's. =]
  4. I'm 17. Money wise getting 2 1GB 8800GT cards (£140 each) is stretching me, 2 512MB 8800GT is reasonable and I would actually do that, seems like the best performance/price when you refer to the table Iced posted: Edit: I just noticed that if you look at the 9800GTX, it's performance is seemingly retarded: 1x 9800 GTX = 33 fps 2x 9800 GTX = 36 fps 3x 9800 GTX = 26 fps Anyone who wasted money on 3 is gonna be crying XD
  5. Hey look, kal's being a douche again. I never professed to understand everything, I'm 17 and I've been interested in computers for a while but mainly played online games. Only the past half a year since I started to check out components for my new build did I start to realise that reading about how computers work interests me. I'm still learning and I want to get to know this stuff to the point where it could be involved in my job/carrier some time in the future. Talking to me like this is completely pointless when you know I don't know as much as you do, constructive/helpful discussion would be greatly appreciated instead of this taunting/derogatory bulls-... bullcrap. (There, I was polite. Happy now your mod-ship?) Alright, so if I wanted to be playing games at the highest settings on my main monitor without sacrificing any performance what's the best to go for: 2x 512MB in sli, 1x 1GB or 2x 1GB? I'm still not sure. Crumpets demand HONEY!
  6. Yah they load on one screen only, but with WoW and Lineage 2 I can get as many clients open as I like. I usually have 2 open on one screen and three on the other if I need all my assisting characters.
  7. Therefore since I'm running 2560 x 1024 I should get the 1GB version (or just get 2 512MB and put them in SLi which is what I was planning on doing)
  8. Would 2x 19" Dell UltraSharps count as "mahoosive"? XD EDIT: I lol'd. I think Diablo changed the topic name to "Which PC crumpets...". Someone's bored!! XD <3
  9. *ignores the above post* I got another question, check out this LINK and tell me what benefit does the 1GB 8800GT have over the 'normal' 512MB version? EDIT: I found out, no real benefit. lol.
  10. No he was asking if he needs it because the retail Q6600s come with paste and heatsink. The OEM one he is getting says "Note- You will need to purchase a heatsink and fan". I think the CPU should come with paste but I would recommend Arctic Silver 5, to go with the Arctic Freezer Pro 5 heatsink.
  11. That's what I've asked twice now and you seem to have ignored, what's the difference between the nForce 6 and 7 board? Christ dude, read. You saying that it won't run Penryn chips is all very well if you're just trying to prove your knowledge, but you gotta apply it to the case at hand which is Iced's new computer. Is the Q6600 a Penryn chip is all we need to know, and if it's not then the 680i is fine. Take your personal opinions out of the equation and make a useful post, please. You wouldn't go SLi but perhaps Iced might decide he wants an additional gfx card in the future and therefore spending the little bit extra on the motherboard that supports it now will greatly benefit him. Iced, just get the nForce 750i - Link Will work with the Q6600 Will work with that Corsair XMS2 ram Will work with up to 2x 8800GTs Will work with your HDD Will work with your SoundCard Will work with your TV Tuner card Will work with your DVD Drives + MMC reader. Will fit in your case. Was that explained simply enough?
  12. Take a look at the link I provided, that's a nForce 680i which is cheaper than the P35 and it does SLI. As I asked in my previous post "what's the difference between the nForce 6 and 7 chipset" I'm not sure if there's a clear difference. But I'm going to assume that the newer (7) chipsets are better until I get a response. So here's a link to a nForce 750i chipset that supports SLi with PCIe 2.0 slots. >> Click <<
  13. Kal, that motherboard you suggested (again) doesn't support SLi, which is why people have started looking at new ones. Iced, remember when you were round mine and I found that one on ebuyer that I thought I'll probably end up getting, it's also cheaper than the one we decided on for you. That's an nForce chipset, here take a look: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/126437 I'll probably get that because it'll take my 2 8800GTs, it'll take my HDDs in RAID 0+1 and the memory I want to use (same as you) @ 800MHz. It also supports all the latest CPUs. Just one question to anyone who knows: what's the major difference between the nForce 6 and 7 chipsets?
  14. Oh please, does no-one on this forum read other people's posts. Here let me repost it for you. As I said it isn't a great advantage and isn't even worth bringing into the equation when deciding which card is better. nVidia have a better reputation for making cards that perform really well and (again, AS I ALREADY SAID) I'll be getting to 8800GTs when I make my new system so I'm not that keen to make the ATI card look good, your posts come across as if you're slating me for being an ATI fanboy when infact I would never use an ATI card again. Actually the shader core is separate, the GPU core on the 8800 IS actually at 600Mhz. Learn to read again please, let me link you to the OEM 8800GT from OcUk: >> Click << And to your point about the clocks, the ATI card clocks are much higher and the reason I didn't include the 1500Mhz shader clock on the nVidia card is because the ATI card doesn't have specs for one so there was nothing to compare it with, another advantage for the 8800GT. Now, the clocks being at higher speeds might not mean much when you start delving into what types of technology all the individual parts of the card are using and it could turn out to be a case of "Indeed, this is running 500Mhz faster but it's using older technology." Same as with a 3.6GHz P4 CPU and a 2GHz C2D, there's just no competition with the new 45nm technology and other things that help new techs to work faster. All in all, don't make retarded assumptions about people again [mod edit:] Please watch your language ! [sensei edit:] But why? Is it running away ? =O
  15. It was me messing around with people's heads. Seemed to work. No relevance at all. Also @ Kalniel I read your post on the atari EU forum and in response to your comment about the GDDR4 vs GDDR3 memory and I have found out that GDDR4 memory model can handle larger amounts of bandwidth and this is the reason the memory and core clocks are clocked so high to 800/2300. This makes the card perform much better on graphically intensive games due to the increased speed of data transfer. Correct me if I am wrong. But I did a little research and found out that GDDR4 is advantageous but only by a little. Sources: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/251276-15-major-difference-gddr3-gddr4-versions-3870 and http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&number=4&artpage=2554&articID=572 The second link provides conclusive thoughts that the GDDR4 isn't a great advantage. In the end, for Iced, it'll probably be a decision between an ATI card or a nVidia card (HD3870XT or 8800GT) and the 8800GT is cheaper. Also, as a side note: I'm being a complete hypocrite un-intentionally here because I am getting 2 8800GTs when I build my new system.
  16. Probably <3~ SCAN's website, no offense to them, is shoddy and overclockers is more reliable in my opinion since it's a dedicated PC specialist website. The 9600GT is really bad, compared to the 8800GT which is cheaper now so suggesting it is a bad idea. Would you like to enlighten me how a 8800GT will perform better compared to the HD3870XT please, take a look at this for instance: BLUE[8800GT] GREEN[HD3870XT] Core running at 600MHz Core running at 800MHz GDDR3 Memory running at 1800MHz GDDR4 Memory running at 2300MHz 112 Stream Processors 320 Stream Processors Also the ATI cards will support the Shader Model 4.1 and DX10.1 which are both yet to be released. I didn't know they came with stock heatsinks and paste, saves £20~25 eh =]
  17. No problem, I spend a lot of time wishing I had a better computer and checking out new parts on the internet so I learn alot by just reading the product spec and if I don't know something asking someone on MSN or reading up about it.
  18. That was Iced on my laptop, forgot to log his own profile. *rolls eyes* Idiot. Anyway, as I have said to him it will be really difficult to scrape any money off that at all. All the components that we looked for were the cheapest you could get whilst keeping reasonable specs. Cheap graphics card, but quality so that he can justify upgrading from the AGP card... cheap motherboard! cheap memory! cheap CPU! really cheap PSU! The case is cheap as well AND it has excessive amounts of cooling when compared to other cases in that price area which are just boxes!! I really don't know how he can complain about the price. But hey, if any of you guys can find indentical products at cheaper prices elsewhere then feel free to give links. Overclockers.co.uk tends to be the best prices though and buying all from same place saves on P&P
  19. This is Iced_bullet: "" Right, this buy is what we've come up with so far (Myself and Sensei): A bit of a strech as I was more thinkning about the £440, could be slightly more, mark for the new rebuild ... I would like to keep Quad Core though ... what could be changed to reduce the price but keep the performance up (ish) concidering I won't be O'Cloking the PC ... ""
  20. We didn't say you can't upgrade Dell computers, we said certain parts of it are made very difficult so that if you want to upgrade in the future you HAVE to do it through Dell, learn to read would you? Yeah you can put a graphics card in it for sure, that's a simple plug a play mechanism for replacing. But replacing CPUs and other components is made a helluva lot more difficult.
  21. Indeed, take a look at this nForce 750i motherboard on overclockers.co.uk, it clearly states that it supports the Core 2 Quad/Duo and other such older processor types. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-265-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1057&name=Asus%20P5N-D%20nForce%20750i%20SLi%20(Socket%20775)%20PCI-Express%20DDR2%20Motherboard And older hard-drives should work, as long as you've got the SATA-II 3GB/s connectors on the motherboard, as the above link states it has 4. It also supports the raid features which I would highly recommend. But as Iced's said, I won't talk much since he's coming round tomorow after exams to look at stuff~
  22. You guys confusing him alot. I doubt a really old motherboard with support the newer Core 2 Duo/Quad technology, for sure the cpu will fit in the intel 775 socket but will it actually work once it's in there? No. Beside that, the massive heatsink on Dell's cases is literally fixed into the case with it's own little plastic compartment which is attached to the case, good luck getting round that. I just woke up (Yes, it's 4pm), so I'm not going to type much more but you guys are seriously suggesting some funny stuff. :)
