  1. The anime production company indeprox announced on Tuesday that an original video anime adaptation of the Spelunker Sensei manga has been green-lit. The online four-panel manga itself is based on Irem Software Engineering's Spelunker action game franchise. Tomokazu Sugita stars as the title character, the world's most reckless explorer who becomes a high school teacher. Minoru Ashina (Boku, Otaryman.) is directing the project at Studio Puyukai. The original manga has been running on Irem's official website for over 12 years, and Enterbrain compiled and published one book volume last year. The voice cast also includes Kana Ueda (female teacher), Takaya Kuroda (physical education teacher), Satoshi Hino (delinquent from another school), Mitsuhiro Ichiki (male student), Shunzou Miyasaka (male student), and Yui Kano (female student). The 30-minute anime will ship on March 16, 2011. There will be a special edition that includes a special CD of the voice cast discussing their love of retro games. Source:ANN
  2. The Japanese media companies Kadokawa and ANIMATE announced a new event called Anime Contents Expo, which will be held at the Makuhari Messe event center in Chiba, Japan from March 26 to 27 of next year. That weekend is when the two public days of Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) have already been scheduled. The companies in the new event's executive committee include Aniplex, ANIMATE, Kadokawa Shoten, King Records, Geneon Universal Entertainment Japan, Frontier Works, Marvelous Entertainment, and Media Factory. The committee cited Tokyo's recently passed amendment to its Youth Healthy Development Ordinance as the reason for boycotting TAF and holding a new event. The amendment will expand the number of manga and anime that fall under "harmful publications," the legal category of works that must not be sold or rented to people under the age of 18. The new event's executive committee noted that it supports The Japan Cartoonist Association, Copyright Network for Comic Authors in the 21st Century, Manga Japan, Comic 10-Shakai, and Association of Japanese Animations in their opposition to the amendment. Comic 10-Shakai, a industry group of 10 manga publishers including Kadokawa Shoten, had already announced its plans to boycott TAF next year. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is part of TAF's executive committee, and Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara also serves as the chairperson of that committee. Ishihara was a leading advocate of a similar earlier youth ordinance amendment bill that was rejected in June, and he pushed the recent amendment that did pass. After various organizations pulled out of TAF, the organizers of the new event said that they searched for another venue where they can announce and promote new works that will debut next spring and summer. More details about Anime Contents Expo will be provided starting in January. Makuhari Messe is the home of such events as Tokyo Game Show (TGS) and Shueisha's Jump Festa. It was also the former home of Comic Market before that dōjinshi event moved to Tokyo Big Sight. Even though Makuhari Messe hosts TGS, the center is actually outside Tokyo in the prefecture immediately east of the metropolis. Source:ANN
  3. The official website for the television anime adaptation of Lim Dal-Young and Kim Kwang-Hyun's Freezing manga began streaming its third 105-second promotional video on Sunday. The story revolves around Kazuya, a boy who lost his sister in humankind's fight against beings from another dimension. He enrolls in Genetics, a military academy for combat training against the dimensional beings. There, a group of girls known as "Pandora" prepare to fight the unknown enemy. The anime will premiere in Japan on January 8. [smg id=307 type=av] The Cinema Today website began streaming a 45-second trailer for the fifth Broken Blade (Break Blade) film on Sunday. Flex Comix publishes the manga in Japan, while CMX Manga published three manga volumes in North America before DC Comics shut down the imprint this year. The fifth film will open in Japan on January 22. [smg id=308 type=av] Source:ANN
  4. Manga creator Takeshi Nogami (Sailor-fuku to Jūsensha, Panzer fräulein ALTESEISEN), anime writer and setting advisor Takaaki Suzuki (Strike Witches, Last Exile), and translator Dan Kanemitsu (new Evangelion films, Love Hina) are collaborating on a dōjinshi (self-published work) about the recently passed amendment to Tokyo's Youth Healthy Development Ordinance. Saru Demo Wakaru To-Jōrei Taisaku ~Monkey Business~ (An Idiot's Guide to Tokyo's Harmful Books Regulation) will be available at Comic Market 79 on December 31 at the Tokyo Big Sight event complex. The Japanese/English book will also be available from Amazon Japan. The current ordinance already prevents the sale and renting of "harmful publications" — materials that are "sexually stimulating, encourages cruelty, and/or may compel suicide or criminal behavior" — to people under the age of 18. Tokyo's Bill 156 will expand the definition of "harmful publications"; the industry will now regulate "manga, anime, and other images" that "unjustifiably glorify or exaggerate" certain sexual or pseudo sexual acts. The government can also directly regulate these images if the depicted acts are also "considered to be excessively disrupting of social order" such as rape. The upcoming dōjinshi will feature manga parodying the amendment along with English translations of the dialogue. There are also Japanese essays for which Kanemitsu is translating into English online. The creators encourage readers to share the book, as long as it is done noncommercially. The dōjinshi's three authors have previously collaborated on a series of dōjinshi about Strike Witches. All three also actively opposed Bill 156 and a similar earlier bill that the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly rejected in June. The dōjinshi's Japanese title, which can roughly be translated as "Even a Monkey Can Understand the Opposition to Tokyo's Ordinance," is a reference to Kentaro Takekuma and Koji Aihara's insider's guide to the manga industry, Saru demo Kakeru Manga Kyōshitsu (Even A Monkey Can Draw Manga). Update: The number of the next Comic Market has been corrected. Kanemitsu notes that the dōjinshi, like many others, is all-ages. It will be available in Japan at Tora no Ana, Comic Zin, and other dōjinshi retailers after Comic Market. Source:ANN

  9. The February issue of North Stars Pictures' Monthly Comic Zenon magazine is announcing on Saturday that a television anime adaptation of Kajio's DD Fist of the North Star (DD Hokuto no Ken) manga has been green-lit. The television anime will premiere next spring on Kansai TV in Japan. Kajio has been adapting the characters in Buronson and Tetsuo Hara's original post-apocalyptic fighting manga as super-deformed characters since Monthly Comic Zenon's first issue in October. A previous DD Hokuto no Ken short anime was announced in 2008, but that version was not a television anime. The "DD" stands for "Design Deformation," since the characters are only "two-heads-tall." Angel Heart and City Hunter creator Tsukasa Hojo posted the cover of Monthly Comic Zenon a day early to note that the next issue will bundle a special Angel Heart DVD. Thanks to Daniel Zelter for the Angel Heart news tip. Update: More background information added. Update 2: According to the Comic Zenon website, the anime will premiere on January 11. The story is set "in the year 199x, mankind was … not engulfed in the flames of nuclear war? "In the 21st century, the characters of Fist of the North Star are living in peaceful Japan. In particular, Kenshirō is a convenience store worker, Raoh works at a factory, and wracked by illness, Toki is looking for work. The legend of the Fighting NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) North Star begins in the modern day." Source:ANN
  10. The official website of the AGC38 character project has announced on Friday that production on an animated music video for AGC38's "Sorette Dakara ne!" song has been green-lit. All 38 female characters will appear in this video which will recount a "heartful story." The song will be officially released next spring. The anime studio Asahi Production had announced the creation of the project itself in September. Asahi described the project as the first talent and entertainment unit composed of 38 female characters. In Asahi's plans, this unit will perform for merchandise branding, in commercials, on television programs, and in virtual shops. Asahi has been planning on anime and manga for the project since its beginning. The producers began auditioning the voice actresses for the characters at Tokyo's Akihabara district in September. 12. The February issue of ASCII Media Works' Dengeki G's Magazine is announcing on Monday that a 3D original video anime adaptation of its Baby Princess project has been green-lit . Sakurako Kimino (Sister Princess, Strawberry Panic!) created this project about a family of 19 sisters — from a newborn baby to a graduating high school senior. In the novel version, a high school senior named Yōtarō thought he was an only child — until he met his real mother and discovered that she has 19 daughters. He ends up living with his "true family." With input from the magazine's readers guiding the storyline, Kimino has written five novel volumes since last year. Natauki Mibu illustrates the novels. In addition to a home video release, the Baby Princess 3D Paradise 0 (Love) anime will be screened at events. Takayuki Inagaki (Rosario + Vampire, Desert Punk) is directing the anime at Studio Comet. Yuuko Kakihara (Heaven's Lost Property, Stitch!) is writing the scripts, and Yumiko Hara (Mayoi Neko Overrun! chief animation director) is designing the characters and overseeing the animation process . 16. The December 30/January 6 issue of Bungei Shunju's Weekly Bunshun magazine calculated that One Piece manga creator Eiichiro Oda's annual income is 2 billion yen (about US$24 million). The magazine took the number of One Piece manga volumes sold this year (32,343,809), multiplied that by the average cover price (400 yen), and multipled the result by Oda's estimated royalty percentage (10%) to get the tally of 1.29 billion yen (US$15.5 million). Weekly Bunshun then estimated that Oda earned 749 million yen (US$8.97 million) in royalties for character goods to reach the final total of 2 billion yen. Source:ANN
  17. A television anime adaptation of feng's adult bishōjo game Hoshizora e Kakaru Hashi (A Bridge to the Starry Skies) has been green-lit for next April. The story of the October 2010 game revolves around Kazuma Hoshino, a boy whose family moves to a new town for the sake of his younger brother's health. Kazuma gets lost on his way to his new school, but he unexpectedly encounters Ui Nakatsugawa, the daughter of a priest at the local shrine. Ui guides him, but when Kazuma trips, he accidentally bumps into Ui and kisses her. Plus, Ui's close friend Ibuki Hinata happens to see the accidental kiss. Hiroshi Mihara is directing the anime series at the studio Dogakobo (11eyes, Koihime†Musō, Myself ; Yourself), and Go Zappa (Chocotto Sister, Koihime†Musō, Myself ; Yourself) is supervising the scripts. In addition to overseeing the animation process, Haruo Ogawara (Goshūshō-sama Ninomiya-kun, Tayutama -Kiss on my Deity-) is adapting the game's original character designs by Ryohka, Naturalton, Takahiro Tsurusaki, Satoru Arikawa, Akira Sawano, and Zouazarasi. 19. That's if there is a part 2. Sure there will be more planned for DLC after release but is there more to be released for the day 1 release itself? Noone knows. Keep your feeling where it currently is with the list as it is now just in case. That way if it's true then you can be even happier. :D
