  1. I had a 8800GT 512 paired with 2gb and a C2D e6600 when GTA4 came out. The game ran good at low settings (be it that the 8800GT was considered recommended for the game), but now a 480 or 5870 has just enough vram and power to max the graphics out. The game did respond better the 3 and 4 core CPU's however. Then we take TDU where the recommended was a 9800Pro or 6600GT in which, even today with a GTX275 (5 generations and 5 years later) at 1920x1200, the GPU has got -just- enough power to do maxed details with 4x AA and never dip below 60FPS. /ocdwarning - The recommended will be a bit weak so I'd go with something more powerful than a 4870/GTX280 if your going to run this at higher resolutions and want smooth FPS with high detail. Maybe a 5850/5870 or a GTX470/480. Whatever you do, do not buy a 4xxx series or GTX2xx series. There is no sense to buy a DX10 card anymore with ATI's pricing and selection on the 5xxx series. Even a GTX470 will be a good long"er" term investment with it's superior tessellation power and DX11 compatibility.
  2. So what I did wrong was that I installed TDU right from the open zip or rar. What I didn't do was unpack the files into a directory called "TDU install" (or whatever) and then run the setup.exe. ...Why it matters, I'm not sure, but right after the install this time around (after unpacking the files in it's own dir.) I was prompted for a D2D activation code. Of course this means that I now have two 3.6GB TDU directories... nevermind the 3.6GB zip. LOL. Pain in the arse. [mod edit:] Please do not swear or use asterisk's to mimic swearing, thanks.
  3. Oahu and TDU1 was 3.6gb right off the DVD... 208 cars with a revamped Oahu and now Abiza... that's a hell of a lot of data. I wonder how the 360 is going to cope with this.
  4. No dice. Tried running it in XP compatibility mode also and still the same thing. Thanks for the input though!
  5. Hey guys, Just wondering if anyone has had this problem. I downloaded TDU from D2D, patched it to 1.66a and just keep getting a "no cd inserted" securom error when trying to load it. This is Win7 64 bit but I don't know as if it matters. Have used the no cd hacks which get me in the menu of the game but I'm constantly prompted to "update to a newer version" if I want to play online... No sign of any place to put my cd key in... Thanks, Fuel81
  6. Hey all. New here. PT isn't bad. The physics are very good for a free game; real cars are being added; cars are very mod able and upgradeable (appearance, engine, tires, ect.). Overall the game is great and there are many tracks (graphics are great too), but the only thing I don't care for is the time it takes to buy cars and build up your status/category/money ect - being more of a non-drifting jump-in sim type of person myself. Though you can buy the cars and game money if you wish with real money for instant gratification. If anything, the physics make this game worth it if you like realism - the fake cars are rather good; mimicking honda civics, the ford mustang and others quite accurately. jmo :) and a 'hello' to the TDU community as everyone I have met so far has been absolutely great people. -fuel
