Well a few thoughts from me ... surely MS will have to adopt Blue-Ray or whatever the 'next' disc format is for it's next console system? I guess the PS3 will be using Blue-Rays for some of it's games? GT5? and surely with that capacity increase MS will have to consider something similar for it's next console. As to the film issue ... I can't see film downloads being a big thing at the moment ... 'most' people like to have collections ... be it physical collections of CDs/DVDs on their shelves or huge collections of music on their generic mp3 player ... so to cope with film downloads, especially HD quality you'll need VERY big storage ... and then to the other point Diablo made ... there just isn't the bandwidth in a lot of countries ... in the UK I think the quickest public ISP is about 20M ... but that's rare ... I think Korea (could be wrong there) has 100M these days and that's the sort of level you'd need, but most people would want instant play rather than waiting 'hours' for the film to download before they can play it ... also I'd be curious to know the figures for people actually downloading films off the current XBL service. As to the 360/PS3 issue that this thread then went onto ... ALL games have always been associated with one machine rather than another, Elite although came out on lots of machines in the end will always be remembered as being a BBC Micro game ... I would personally associate GTA with the Playstation ... BUT I'll be buying it on the 360 ... I'm 'traditionally' (in terms of recent gaming history) a Sony boy, bought a PS1 at launch and same for PS2 ... then my PS2 finally died on me and I'd heard from a mate who had a 360 (well he tends to buy EVERY console that comes out) about some game called TDU ... and so here I am ... thanks to my PS2 dying and the PS3 being delayed from it's original launch date ... but I will buy a PS3 at some point ... or the same reason as Diablo ... GT5 (not the prologue version) ... oh and I'll want a blue-ray player As to the casual / hard-core gamer ... I do sort of agree that the 360 is definitely set-up and marketed toward the more 'hard-core' ... the Wii has the sillyness and envolvement factor for the family and pretty much everyone I know who has one isn't a 'gamer' and this is this first console in a lot of cases ... the PS3 has the whole blue-ray thing and the Playstation is a far more developed brand than the xbox However there are 2 people in the UK that I think do a good job at promoting the machine ... a certain Christopher Moyles and a Vernon Kay ... however they do often talk about the 360 in a spoddy semi hard-core gamer way I don't think MS can do much about changing peoples perception on the machine tho ... it's like trying to convice people that Skodas are good solid cars!

It's sort of a game where you buy cars ... paint them in pretty colours ... tune them up so they're uncontrolable and then see how quickly you can destroy the car (P.S. Baldred ... you now don't have to moan about circuits!) -
What did I post a picture of?

Neil it will be good to catch you online sometime ... strangely a few of us found ourselves on some game called Forza 2 yesterday! -
King, I normally post Motor/Auto Show treads in the Auto News Section ... I always thought this part was for people own cars. I noticed they've also put a roof on the Solstice ... looks quite good

OK Diablo ... how do you paint the Audi?

F1 2008 Season: Malaysia Grand Prix
YeOldeTDUMan replied to YeOldeTDUMan's topic in Automotive Discussion
Nige stop talking rubbish ... As Mellors says some tracks are suited towards the Ferrari and some towards the McLaren ... all depends how the cars is designed. In terms of your points above ... here goes A) You'll find BOTH McLaren drivers were penalised ... personally I blame the pit crew for not warning them that drivers were still attempting a quali lap ... if you saw the quali there were actually 4 cars going slowly in that bit of track (I can't remember who the other 2 were off the top of my head) ... and as if you use the relative speeds of the cars the McLarens had no time to react once they'd seen the cars in their mirrors, could you react in time with a closing speed of approximately 100mph! B) Did you ACTUALLY watch the race ... Lewis started in 9th place and managed to grab 5th place in the first couple of bends ... that's good going in anyones book. C) OK 2 points here ... it's a known fact that the Red Bulls have good straight line speed ... also although Malaysia is a wide track it's racing line isn't so it's still dificult to overtake. D) See second point on answer C And now to your final point ... a great driver is NEVER going to finish on the podium every single race ... I'll give you 2 examples ... Sir Stirling Moss and Ayrton Senna. As to you saying you can't blame the team you have to blame the driver ... well lets examine this ... in my mind it's a bit of both. 1. quali showed the McLarens didn't have the pace of the Ferraris at Malaysia and they were struggling with their grip ... some cars prefer one circuit, some prefer another ... fact of car design 2. poor communication (supposition by me) between the pits and the drivers during the 'in-lap' at the end of quali 3 resulted in them not knowing 2 drivers were still attempting a quali lap 3. unfortunately 1 of those drivers was Lewis's/Ron's best mate Alonso ... who complained and the race stewards righty (I think it was very dangerous ... but then I also don't like the change to this years quali with the fuel) deducted some places from both McLarens as they were deemed to be in the way 4. you can't change the fuel level post quali now so he would have been on the wrong fuel level for being 9th on the grid. 5. being 9th (mid pack) on the grid is dangerous as you're more likely to get caught in a shunt so you have to be vary wary at the start and first few bends 6. Lewis then found himself behind a Red Bull, a quick car in a straight line, on a track that is difficult to overtake with a fuel strategy that was intended for him being in the front 4 quick cars 7. Lewis's first fuel stop was intended to be a quick splash and dash (did you notice the length of time the fuel hose was on?) meant to put him out in a relatively clear track to have a blast and hopefully jump people as they pitted ... unfortunately there was an issue with the nut/spinner on the front right wheel which meant he had an extra 10+ seconds in the pit 8. 10+ seconds put him in 11th 9. his spinner on the front right wheel wasn't spinning and must have been causing some nasty vibrations (If you notice they have a slot in them to allow airflow to cool the brakes, if this was spinning with the wheel it could produce some nasty oscillations) 10. eventually things played out that Lewis was in front of Webber through pit stops and with some clear track and some tyres that favoured the McLaren he started to catch Trulli ... but that was the end of the race So ... McLarens weren't suited to Malaysia ... he got penalised in Quali ... he got stuck behind a quick car ... his first pit stop was a disaster ... he was then on the wrong fuel load ... but he finished 5th in the end "A bad day in the office" so to speak ... but at least he got some points Here endeth my rant! -

Iced ... sorry but I agree with the race stewards (I didn't know it was a complaint from Alonso) ... the McLarens were dangerous in the final part of quali ... a very nasty accident could have happened, thankfully it didn't -
not too sure about the styling ... the nose looks like a european car with japanese style lights ... the back end to me looks odd.
-
Congrats to Kimi ... flawless race Another good performance from BMW and Kubica ... definitely a rising star I think McLaren might have to worry with the pace of the Ferrari I think the whole final qualifying needs to be looked at as the McLarens were VERY dangerous Trulli had a great race ... good to see Toyota having a better season than previous years
-
What showrooms are you after? when you download the packs the 'NEWS' page in your House tells you where each car can be found. For info ... RUFs appear in the same dealer as the Wiesmann ... A new Dealer appears in the South West of the island for a McLaren and dsomething else (sorry can't remember) ... but pretty much all the cars appear in existing dealers
-
I'd like to nominate Mellors ... OK I know he's been poorly ... but this was his response to me having a few display problems with my new work laptop There is only one INTERNET isn't there? He did mean browser

I bet you the engine in the Veyron lasts a lot more miles than the Venom Viper ... I'll stop going on about nasty tuner cars now

Woz a few friendly pointers for you if you want to organise a cruise (I've done quite a few in my time in TDU) Suggest a date/time for the event Put a list of 1. to 8. and ask people to put their names down if theyre up for it as to your rules ... generally a good idea but a few flaws ... ramming more often then not happens because people on a cruise out brake each other, crash into traffic or have a laggy connection ... and if you're going to use the lights someone needs to call the colour as they aren't synchronised for everyone on the session Oh and organise a meeting location in a quiet part of the map ... it's hell otherwise But most of all Have Fun

No Nodz ... the Beeb have it from the 2009 season ... sounds like Bernie had a get-out clause with his current contract with ITV I hope the main presenter is either one of the existing Good BBC sport presenters ... or someone who is known to be into F1 swiping Brundle from ITV wouldn't be a bad idea
-
Exactly ... should be good coverage ... no adverts ... also sounds like it'll be on BBC TV, BBC Radio (I'm guessing Five Live) and Streamed over the web (I'm guessing via iplayer) all at the same time I hope the TV is on BBCHD :excited:
-
Erm that's Brundle ...
-
Some great news for UK F1 Fans ... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7306123.stm No more adverts ... no more missing the racing ... or the end of the race like one year Lets just hope they bring back the Fleetwood mac guitar rift too :excited::excited::excited::excited::excited: The only thing I'd like to remain from the ITV show is Martin Brundle
-
Well it would have to be either the Gallardo or the Esprit for me ... who cares about the Porsche ... however the Esprit would have to be either an old Turbo Esprit (preferaly an Essex Edition) or a 350 Sport
-
yes but you can't have a 'free' space in garages which is the annoying thing ... means you can't easily make car collections in houses for example when you have 3 cars by 1 company and you want to put only them in a 4 car house

OK I missed that bit. I'd still stick with how it is at the moment and just make the gap wider between 1st and 2nd -
Ecclestone wants wins to decide title
YeOldeTDUMan replied to Nodz86's topic in Automotive Discussion
I'd like to know how they'd work out the money each team wins ... at the moment it's based on points at the end of the season if they made it that only the podium positions counted ... so guy with the most number of wins, then in the case of a tie, most no of 2nds etc ... how would you work out what team gets what in terms of cash? ... as car mad put it why would teams like super aguri bother competing? nige, why doesn't your userbar say "I love Kimi"? -
OK I'd love to see the video of the Veyron doing that ... looks like the driver was having a little fun with the wheel of the Viper! Also it's an unfair comparison against the Veyron ... well until some nutcase goes and tunes one!
