  1. So if I'm asked a question and my answer is remotely similar to someone else's I'm not allowed to give an answer? That would make for a rubbish forum. Or maybe I choose my words very carefully ;) I quoted it because I was answering the question contained in it.
  2. I can assure you what I said was 100% my own opinion, not re-wording his post, so maybe all it means is we share the same opinion.. is that a crime? :p
  3. I didn't - I was giving my opinion :) That's why I used words like 'I think'. I wasn't saying 'you think'.
  4. I try to consider my words carefully ;)
  5. The problem is it's just a rebadged 8800GTX, so you can pick up the same card with a 8800GTX sticker for quite a bit less :p
  6. TDU has been very well recieved critically and actually garnered a lot of respect from other games developers. I have no idea about its commerical success, but assuming it's done ok then I think most people would consider a continuation of the franchise to be logical.
  7. It's hard to get across what I'm saying, sorry. A developer can develop several projects, and get them to the stage where they want to talk to people about features, directions to go in etc. etc. (This is usually quite early on in the process, but after they have gathered a team of people and assigned roles in the company, run a first version of the possible engine etc.). That's something quite different from a project getting an official go-ahead and being confirmed, at which point there is 'proper' talking to the community in an official/authorative way.
  8. I don't really care what Iced's definition is, or mine, it's the fact that no-one official, or even from the french TDU community is saying anything about 'soon' - that has come from Iced and Iced alone :p But no, they're not officially talking to the community about it yet. Maybe they will *soon* :D We've been through all this before (when the video came out) - it confirms that a developer has said they are spending some time working on what they percieve to be TDU2. That is very far from being the same as saying the game is confirmed to ever be released. It's quite normal for development work to be carried out on projects before they are given the final go-ahead.
  9. Well best price/performance is a single 8800GT in that case - going SLI doubles the cost without getting close to doubling the performance. Or if you have to get 30fps in Crysis then get a single 8800GTS 512mb Or if you have to have SLI go for 9600GT SLI - same performance as the 8800GT SLI but £100 cheaper. Or wait for the GTX cards to come out and the price of the 9800GTX to crash.
  10. Yep, fact. Not fact! Pulled out of thin air! Then *you* are saying that TDU2 is soon, not any 'source' or french community website :p Seriously, all I'm saying was stop misleading people - if you want to say 'I think TDU2 is confirmed and coming soon' then by all means do so, but please don't try and pass it off as anything remotely official when it's not.
  11. But what's that got to do with anything that you just said about TDU2 being confirmed and that it was soon? Fabien (who is just another fan as well, not an official source) doesn't say anything like that.
  12. Please show me anywhere in that (old) video by David that he says that a) TDU2 is confirmed to be released and the b) it is soon. You won't find it.
  13. Performance wise the memory will be irrelevant as long as it's at least 512mb per chip, so go with whichever has the best performing chip. If you're after ultimate performance then two GX2s is the top choice today, but it's a horribly blunt solution that has impractical cost for the benefit. On June 16/18th that solution will be trumped by nVIDIAs new cards, the GTX 260 and 280. I expect the 280 to be priced at close to the ridiculous Ultra levels of the past, so for what would still be a big bunch of money I would recommend the GTX 260. If you have enough money for two 260s then I would recommend getting a single 280 instead.
  14. They haven't done any such thing! Don't get people's hopes up :(
  15. So you're saying you want something of real cash value, for pretend money?
  16. Sensei, please do some more reading on video cards! :) Running 2 cards in SLI does not give you 2x the framebuffer. If 512mb isn't enough for 2560x1024 (it is actually, but that's another story), then 2x512 in SLI won't be enough either. Memory is not shared in SLI - each card still has to hold its own copy of the framebuffer, so if something doesn't fit in 512mb then it's still not going to fit in one of the SLI'd cards and that card will have to request it from system RAM. ATi are talking about doing shared memory with their crossfire X2 cards, but it's not happened yet. Back on topic, I think people who put jam on crumpets are freaks - jam is for scones only. Marmalade is for toast. Crumpets.. butter ONLY!
  17. I'm not calling you an idiot at all, don't worry. I was just doing the maths - 4x20A for 12V rails means you could be taking up 960W, which clearly isn't right for a 800W rated powersupply, especially when your CPU will be taking up 90W as well plus other peripherals. I'm always suspicious of PSUs that claim nonsense figures - what they should have is a separate figure under the 12V or elsewhere that says 'maximum combined W on all 12V lines = x' and that should be a more realistic figure. Still, unless it's a poor make of PSU I suspect that it's not the problem. Presumably you're using two PCIe power connectors to the card.. could one of them be faulty?
  18. Well obviously you don't have 4 separate rails rated at 20A each, as that would leave -160W left for everything else :oook: What wattage do you have for the 12V rails combined?
  19. *drools* I could kill for one with a nice cup of tea now. Although the above is a good example of the inferior Sainsburys type.
  20. Clearly your choice of crumpets is very important. Sainsburys crumpets are very cheap, but I find their thinness a bit dissappointing. Moreover, this attribute gives them a very narrow thermal range for optimum toastiness. M&S crumpets on the otherhand, if you can afford them, offer a much thicker platform while maintaining a pleasant lightness. The increased thermal range also increases the chance of correct toasting.
  21. But it can't run any 45nm processors, so rules out all penryn chips. The 750 does support 45nm processors, but then you're paying 20 quid more for the privaledge and you have to put up with a northbridge you can fry eggs on ;) If you have to go SLI then I'd agree the 750 is a good choice, but my opinion remains that going non-SLI and with the p35 chipset is better.
  22. None of the motherboards Iced listed do SLI, so I was continueing to suggest other good motherboards. SLI is a lot more expensive, so I thought he wouldn't want it.
  23. Actually having a socket on that side is closer to the PSU exit where the cables come out. Otherwise you have to route it over the CPU heatsink/fan. My first choice for a premium motherboard would be this one: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=605524 Though there are also some other varients that would work fine as well. Also if you want the maximum choice then wait a few weeks - a new generation of motherboards (p45) and GPUs are coming out soon.
  24. That motherboard is fine, but if you don't want it, just look for any other p35 chipset - that's the best performance-for-the-money chipset, especially when you take reliablity and temperature into consideration.
  25. Where have I said anything about you being an ATI fanboy or even anything close to that. And you're telling *me* I need to read? :p And which is more important? Again you don't seem to be terribly knowledgable. The ATI shader clock is 800mhz. That's not a bad thing. SLI doesn't really serve any point other than bragging. Unless you are right at the very (and very expensive) top of the technology tree then it's better to get a fast single card than two in SLI. When that single card isn't fast enough it's better to sell it and replace it again with another single card.
