+1 I used to be with BT but left because The Home Hub was so unreliable and all the customer services are in Bangladesh. Im on TalkTalk. Its as good as a chocolate teapot. HUGELY unreliable connection, high latencys, work let you use p2p or torrents, rubbish router that has hissy fits constantly, constantly d/c's me from game servers, HUGE lag, if you have more than 2 pcs on the network its slows to a crawl. Im almost 400 miles from Manchester :S Speeds look reasonable on paper yet I never see more than 200kb/s D/L even on servers that are hosted on 100 MB/s lines Frankly i would never touch talktalk again with several barge pole strapped together. however my mother doesn't seem to car as all they use it for is e-mails so Im stuck with an awful connection.

clock speed aint everything. especially with i7 as its about 24% faster clock for clock than C2Q. also if he plans on overclocking. @E.W: you wight want to try an get hold of a third party cooler as the intel ones are shockingly poor set the fsb to 400 . that gives you a 3.59 Ghz cpu and youll be flying. should be able to run that on stock voltage and cooler

if you are going to overclock go for a E84/5/6/00 or a Q6600 as they are faster when overclocked. also make sure you have a good cooler

Gtx 275 is faster than 4890 and cheaper. 4gigs of corsair XMS3 is double the price of XMS2 Dont even say im a fanboy. Buy the best and cheapest stuff at the time.

then factor in the cost of ddr3 vs ddr2 my advice is buy an Intel dual core like beem3r said or if you must have an amd buy a AM2 Phenom II X2 or wait for the Athlon II's or intel's lynnfield cpu's
