  1. Perhaps. However, reflexes and completely ridiculous car dynamics are completely different. Lifting off after accelerating INTO a turn unbalances the cars weight (the most common way to initiate a powerslide). Lifting off then hitting the gas will do the same to a must larger degree (called power oversteer). Braking up to the turn then accelerating out of a turn then somehow causing a spin makes no sense. All that I'm saying is that if they are going to make an arcade game, make it have arcade physics. If they are going to make a simulation game, then make it have reasonably simulation based physics.
  2. I think that did it. No more frame rate drops, my video card doesn't get too hot either and that's with everything maxed out!
  3. Yep, it's like 25fps constantly no matter what. That's what makes me think it isn't a computer issue at all because the performance is exactly the same no matter what kind of load there is.
  4. The Astons in general seem to have simply diabolical handling. I mean, you can drive the AMV8, lift off in the middle of a corner, mash the throttle and it'll stick like glue, but if you get even the slightest of bumps (which you can't see on the road), you're off.
  5. Whew, I'm not the only one! I will try turning Vsync on. :)
  6. Made no difference whatsoever. Am going to just call them.
  7. Not only do I not know what DirectAudio is, I'm just trying to figure out why my video card seems to be underperforming.
  8. Turned off online interactions: no dice. THe game is still very much playable, but it was silky smooth before and now it's not. Interestingly enough, my card doesn't even get as hot now. It used to run into the 90s, but now it's only getting into the 80s and GPU usage is around 50-60% whereas it was in the 90s beforehand. Wonder if they're related...
  9. I'm running 5.1 and I know it's working properly because I'm running Dolby PL2x which upmixes to 7.1 (I just use my existing home audio connected to a receiver), and the rear surrounds are getting people driving up behind me, engine noise dependent on view, and everything else.
  10. I haven't used Winamp since high school, so that's not the problem there. Nothing new was installed: I was driving my R8, talking to somebody from Russia in a Koenigsegg, then the next time I started the game it was all jittery. I will try the online interactions thing though. How do I access that option in game? I can't seem to find it :(
  11. Hey all, I've been playing TDU2 since the 8th (I think I'm level 17 or 18 now), and it was working buttery smooth in all conditions: cities, weather, night, races, whatever. Now, however, it's as though my framerates have plummeted significantly (seemed to start as soon as I hit level 15). I'm running at 1920x1080, everything maxed but AA (set to 2x, doesn't make much difference). Relevant rig specs: Vista Ultimate x64 GTX 480 Superclocked (1/18/2011 driver update) 6GB Corsair Dominator RAM i7 920 CPU Ideas? Even turning everything down makes zero difference whatsoever, and if I can play Metro 2033 maxed out without a hitch, I'm pretty sure that this game shouldn't magically become a hog as soon as you reach a certain level...
  12. Fixed it, never mind! I wasn't running TDUPE in administrator mode.
  13. Hey all, I've got an interesting situation here. I've been putting in mods for some time, and just recently started doing physics modding. The one that I'm stuck with right now is the 458 Italia which replaces the 360CS. Whenever I try to start the game, just before it gets to the main screen, it says "TDU has to close" or something along those lines. I was getting that error a lot yesterday with other physics files until I happened to find one that worked correctly. This never happens when I install a new model/physics pack that has an installer; only if I have to use TDUPE to do it do I get these errors. Obviously I have the magic map, so I'm at a loss here. Any help? :D -Dave
  14. Nope, the Miata has always been the MX-5. They only just now changed the name to solely MX-5 instead of MX-5 Miata / MX-5 Eunos Roadster elsewhere. The MX-3 is a little hatchback looking thing that really isn't useful as far as performance goes.
  15. Yep, not hitting control was the problem. I don't know what the hell it does, only that I'm in the game and online and looking to get rid of my TT :D Thanks for all your help guys, I am now a member of the TDU online community :woot:
  16. You can NOT, and I mean NOT be serious!!! I started the game and went to make a profile, then it said do you want to update, so I said sure. Tried installing the patch (with the program still running), and got an error about the exe, but the rest of the patch installed. From there, it wouldn't recognize the patch so I realized that I should have ended the program first, my mistake. Well, I uninstalled and re-installed, installed the patch FIRST, and guess what? SAME GODDAMN ERROR AS BEFORE. I'm trying to uninstall again and will re-install and will make sure I press left control when I click make shortcut (read to do that somewhere) because I did it the first time, and not the second.
  17. Well, so that I can see if it's a disc issue in time to be lazy on Christmas day, I downloaded the electronic version from Digital River and already I can tell that something is different. I expected it to be faster since it doesn't have to seek as much as on a drive, but I get options I didn't get before and apparently there's music during installation. Will update on if it works, sorry for the double post. edit: KNEW IT! Digital copy works, updating with patch now.
  18. Yep, emailed Atari and SecuROM with an analysis file (curiously, I got that error when I did launch analysis, but it ended up making a file in the end). I'm honestly not expecting much beyond the typical "Our coding is so elite that the only explanation is that you stole your software off of the internet or from a friend even though you have a legitimate CD key and all receipts and images of the disk itself that you sent to us so that you could prove you own it."
  19. I purchased it in physical form from Amazon.com. I purchased the megapack from Atari's website and was given my serial for that when I got the receipt. Everything is 100% legitimate. I only mentioned the cracked .exe file because I was trying to find out where the issue might lie since it gives an error with or without the disc in the drive, and does NOT give an error when there is either no .exe or when I use a cracked .exe. That leads me to believe that there is an issue with the exe. Not once was I asked to update, I merely downloaded the patches anyway and installed the megapack. System specs: Nvidia 8800GT AMD X2 6000+ Windsor 4GB G-skill RAM 3 WD 500GB caviar drives Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit Soundblaster X-Fi xtreme gamer I can play any other game besides this, so I'm really lost here.
  20. See, with all due respect, you're giving me these suggestions when in fact it's clear that I've completely uninstalled and reinstalled TDU multiple times, there is no such thing as a securom update, and it doesn't matter if I try to initialize it with the disc in or out: I get the same error. This is the ONLY game that this happens with, so I'm pretty sure my computer is A-ok.
  21. Thank you for that...comment, but I'm actually being serious and would like to know if anyone has seen or knows about this error.
  22. I have already taken that exact approach, and I cannot even initialize the .exe whatsoever. I double click it, it dicks around for about 8-10 seconds, then eventually the error pops up. Here's exactly what it says: "The wrapper version of SecuROM is too old, it can not be used with this version of the API. Please protect the application with the latest version of SecuROM!"
  23. Well I noticed that hte issue/warning pops up regardless of whether or not the DVD is in the drive, so I fear it might be an issue with my .exe. Does this sound reasonable?
