What to Expect CES 2016 is ramping up again with its formal start date penned in for tomorrow (Wednesday 6 January). I've been looking through the schedule and the following themes are the main stand-out: So, what's happening this year? Automotive Electric vehicles, such as the Faraday concept EV pictured above. A keynote from VW on their new electric drivetrains is also scheduled. Car infotainment systems, such as BMW's advanced gesture interface Self-driving advancements Displays Smart TVs - new software running on faster processors featuring universal remote controls and 4K/8K panels Gaming Monitors - new ultra-wide variants with high refresh rates and variable V-Sync Internet of Things (IoT) Expect announcements from Samsung about their foray into the world of IoT. Control your Samsung Smart Things (yes, that's a thing) from your Samsung Smart TV, Smart Phone, or maybe even Smart Watch. Virtual Reality Oculus Rift announcements - pre-orders begin tomorrow. Inclusion of 2 free games (Lucky's Tail and EVE: Valkyrie) and the Xbox One gamepad for Windows. Expect final price and availability date announcements. Price is expected to be north of $350 U.S. HTC have teased a "breakthrough" for their Vive headset, which is the reason for its delayed launch. It was previously announced to be available from December 2015. PlayStation VR has been spotted. It includes an external unit not quite as large as a Nintendo Wii that no doubt includes extra processing horsepower to achieve the required framerates for VR. Announcements from games that are VR-ready for launch. Ian Bell from Slightly Mad Studios has hinted at some new exposure here. Want to view and join in the discussion?
