  1. *nods* It is a fab game, and runs amazingly well as well as looking gorgeous, even on a computer a few generations old like mine :)
  2. Not so new anymore, but nice at the time :) -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) -- -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) --
  3. The tabloids have been waiting for the pole/pole comment for ages :p Still top job though - last couple of races where they were fast qualifying they weren't especially light on fuel either, so I don't think they'll have that much of a penalty. However it's hard to see Massa not winning as the speed in the car is incredible. Unless he spins off again which is quite possible :p
  4. 1am highlights on Mondays? They've got to be kidding. Some of us have jobs (and no, my VCR is broke too :( )
  5. Really gutted to miss BTCC.. but we can't get ITV4. What a waste of a license by ITV :(
  6. I still wonder what a 'downlaod' is though ;)
  7. You can already specify a player limit of less than 8 if you have problems, no reason why that wouldn't still be the case if the upper limit was raised. Nice email, hope people will come up with some more ideas over at the Atari forums and don't just repeat this :)
  8. Depends very much on what the and something was ;)
  9. What's are your electric wall sockets like? In the UK we have an earth pin so you can fully earth the case and not have to worry about static (I've also never used a strap). In general installing cards is quite simple as long as you've planned for it and have the room in your case and any needed connectors. First step is to get rid of all the drivers associated with your existing card and have some ready for the new ones - if it's onboard you may also need to disable it in the BIOS. Then shut down, turn off the power (leaving cable plugged in if in the UK for the earthing) and open up the case. Remove the old card, or if there isn't a card remove the expansion slot bracket in line with the slot you are using. Then blow on the socket to remove any dust and slot in the new card - it might be a bit hard to get in if the socket hasn't been used before, but as long as you are lined up properly and exerting force exactly vertically you can push quite hard safely. Connect any required power connectors. I usually do up the case right away, but some people prefer to leave the side off incase they need to try again. Power on the computer, listen out for any beeps or problems, and go into the BIOS to select the card as the primary graphics adaptor (you may not have to do this). Then go into windows - cancel the 'add new hardware' wizards and instead run the driver installation direct from the CD/download. Reboot and you should be good to go :)
  10. This is a very interesting piece by one of the producers over at THQ, following the closure of Iron Lore Entertainment (guys who made Titan Quest) - he really vents his frustrations at the problems in making a game for the PC and makes some very good points about the effect of piracy - not just the obvious ones, but secondary effects like bugs caused by pirated copies being blamed on poor programming. Something any regular of the TDU forums will be familiar with... There are some instances of swearing in the article. http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?t=42663
  11. Yikes that's ugly! :p Please, 'paint' it quick!
  12. It's not uncommon - the retail selling price of a game falls over time so once they've achieved market saturation the only 'cost' is the printing of the DVD and manual - if you are printing a DVD for the extra content anyway then that cost is nothing (assuming you put the manual on PDF).. so it wouldn't cost Atari any more to include TDU for free with the extra content, and it may just tempt more people to buy it. The only time that's a bad strategy is when you need an expansion to boost sales of the original product - that isn't the case in TDU where you have a large amount of content in the original game already, certainly compared to any carpack. In otherwords, people who didn't buy TDU generally won't buy it just to be able to get the car packs with no interest in the other cars.
  13. This poll seems to indicate the majority of people wouldn't pay for a carpack. Or is there another one I'm missing?
  14. So you'd be happy to pay £17.99 for the mega car pack, but not £17.99 for the mega car pack+TDU? The things MS provide for the X360 still need to be provided by someone else for the PC - QA, hosting, distribution, authentication.. ontop of any licensing conditions that may exist (I don't know the full story behind these, but I have heard that there are clauses that prevent developers releasing something at retail for an amount cheaper than the Live cost - see PuzzleQuest for example).
  15. Yup, blooming fantastic.
  16. My current game of choice...
  17. Airflow diagram :P -- OLD IMAGE REMOVED (imageshack) --
  18. Coolermaster Centurion 5 You have to be careful with side mounted fans as they can hinder the airflow rather than help it. But it also depends on your CPU cooler - mine is the type that goes inline with the flow from front to back (the whole front of my case is mesh). Side fans are helpful for retail coolers that just suck air down ontop of the CPU.
  19. Nugget for the forum? 'Burntout' isn't a word :badspelling:
  20. Yes exactly that. It might be the only secure way of distributing new content on the PC.
  21. Does no-one read posts earlier in the thread or even check out people's 'gaming rig' in the profile?? :p It's an ATI x1950xt. Taking up two slots isn't really a sign of being huge - it's more a thermal characteristic in that two-slot coolers work a lot better at extracting heat from the case. So hot cards (mine falls under this category) tend to have two-slot coolers. You can't really see it, but directly in line with the air intake on the x1950xt there is a fan on my case pulling air in at the front - so air comes in the front, directly through the GPU, and out the back of the case. This keeps the temperatures of the GPU down, and just as importantly, doesn't heat up the rest of the system.
  22. Not at all unfortunately. It could be that without legal validation they can't even start. Note it's not pending before release, it's just pending full stop. Infact it's 'but pending' which suggests it's getting in the way of the 'still under way' process. Does anyone else think it might be a re-release of TDU+extra cars?
  23. Hehe. I've produced my own translation below - it doesn't really differ in any key way though: As some of you know, I re-established contact with Atari or Infogrammes whichever you like (it doesn’t matter in the end) So I asked Atari France about two points which we’re all concerned with a bit. They don't have the necessary information, it is at Atari Europe that the answers were to be found. Here's what came out: Can we expect a car pack on PC? -- TDU megapack PC (incorporating most of the XBOX 360 car packs): still under way, but pending legal validation by the US brands. What about servers? How long can we still drive on the sunny roads? -- Servers psp / ps2: Evaluating the cost versus the number of players -- Servers PC / XBOX 360: no stopping of the servers or service reductions planned for the moment. Caution, nothing is official yet, so anything that is said here is not contractual. I will be informed of upcoming events. See you soon for the next news I hope!
  24. LOL not really - it's quite small for a dual slot GPU. Have you seen modern ones?! Yup - artic cooler 64 pro.
  25. They've got no plans to stop the service.. what are you complaining about?! Would you rather they said they did have plans to stop the service? :p Back to the article, I don't understand why they would not identify their source - they left it as a generic 'atari france' when if it was reliable they should have said which spokesperson they are quoting. I don't feel Atari *owe* us anything - we've had a great game that has far less bugs than a lot of other games and has provided us with tons more gameplay than a lot of other games too. But I wouldn't say no to more cars! Though I wouldn't be willing to pay much for the privaledge.
