Define Lag

Is there any way to tell if you are lagging or not? (in game)

 

The reason behind the question is some people drive smoothly and w/o jumping whereas others do not.

 

Would I know if I was lagging by virtue of 'jumping' on my own screen? Or would I have to ask someone ingame?

Chances are if you see someone jumping, your jumping on their screen too. Least thats what i've been told.

That makes sense, yes but what if I see other people and they are moving along fine?

I asked one of those people and he said that I wasnt lagging.

There's two types of lag, internet lag and framerate lag. Though you mentioned that you see cars jumping then it's internet lag. From experience, it can be two ways when you see a car jumping. It can mean you're lagging or he's lagging. Drive in a full session to find out if you're the one lagging cause if you are the one lagging, all the cars in the session would jump or skip.
