Dredgy: TDU Performance Editor [Car Database 2.1 Released]
Sambo replied to dredgy's topic in Tools / Others Mod
I believe that this figure is % weight on the front of the car. This seems to be opposite to reality with respect to 'less tail wag', but remember that this isn't reality, it's just a physics engine. :) The engine may be calculating the weight on the front wheels and deciding that more weight = more grip = more stable when steering (see below). The main way the engine controls steering stability is via the 'Oversteer' setting. As for why less weight on the rear causes you to have a lower top speed, the physics engine in TDU seems to have a close relationship between 'weight' on the driving wheels and and amount of the car's power that will be 'applied' to the road. It's almost like you're wheel-spinning if you don't have enough weight on the driving wheels. Parameters like downforce, weight & weight distribution have a huge effect on applicable power. Again, this is sometimes contrary to reality. The 'Y' axis is vertical and in my experience this setting has very little or no influence on the car. Sometimes there are parameters which are non-functional (or effectively so) and I believe that this is one of them. If you want to reduce body roll, you are best to adjust the suspension instead. AFAIK there is no 'left/right' COG adjustment (& no real reason for one either). -

I absolutely agree! The physics engine isn't perfect, it needs a fair bit of massaging to get cars to resemble real world performance!! However, there are ways to make the Veyron work quite closely to it's real world performance. -

I see there's talk of possibly buying a high poly model of the 458. I would seriously contribute to this, up to US$20 if required! -
Tool831: Mod Poll! (Oh yes its back!! lot more cars too)
Sambo replied to Tool831's topic in TDU - Support
No Ferrari 458 Italia!? :( -
Now that it's possible to package up models, sounds, rims & physics into one install file, I think we need a 'Total Conversion' section (or a similar name) which has these kinds of install files hosted in it. This way people can release a single file which has everything included which makes it much more convenient to manage!

PCGames.de TDU2 article summary by tdu-c.de
Sambo replied to Schreck's topic in Driving & Racing Games
Huh, weird, the real island is 571.04 sq km! So the in-game island is actually smaller than the real-world one! -
huh. weird. Maybe 1000mi was only approximate. In any case if it's 3750 or 4000km it's still a HEAP of roads!! :D
-
1000mi = 1610kms x 2.5 = 4025kms. We're both wrong :D
-
Another rough measurement / estimate of all roads on that map works out to ~250km. Even if my estimates are way off and it's more like 500km, then double that for offroad tracks as well, it's still only 1000km! It has to be scaled up in the game IMO.
-
Interesting. I worked out a ROUGH scale and a very rough, straight line based measurement of the circumference of the island comes out to around 100km. The island measures approx 38km long & 18km wide (in a straight line). I'm struggling to see 4000kms of road on an island of this size / scale...

Joypad TDU2 Preview (French) *Wealth of info and pics!*
Sambo replied to Eudemon's topic in Driving & Racing Games
OH HELL YES!! The 458 is THE most gorgeous car EVER!! I think I'll just swoon if it is included!!! :D On the subject of island size, if Ibiza takes 40min to drive around that would make it around the same size as Oahu (or possibly slightly smaller), assuming that you can drive around it at a similar speed. As we all know, there are vast areas of Oahu which don't have roads on them so you could easily fit 4000km of roads on an area that size IMO. -
Hey TDU_Enzo, Which HUD / Gauge is that in your vid? Seems perfect for the F1 car!

released Grin116: Ferrari - Formula One + New Steering Wheel*
Sambo replied to Grin116's topic in Vehicle Mods
Hey Grin, Nice model! I've been trying to setup full Formula 1 physics using this model but there is an 'issue'. Basically it seems that there is an RPM limit somehow hard-coded in the model itself! I know it seems crazy, but using your F1 model, if I set the RPM to 18000 it tops out at 9054 RPM. If I change the model file only to 'default.bnk', then the RPMs top out at 18000!! I'm using the Mclaren F1 GTR HUD / Gauges (digital RPMs) to more easily monitor so it's not an issue with the RPM readout. It also affects performance as well. Do you have any idea why this might be happening!? -
Hi saladine1, Now that we have a working F1 car (http://forum.turboduck.net/showthread.php?t=11176), would you consider releasing your F1 sounds?

Gamereactor TDU2 Exclusive! - Pics included
Sambo replied to Andreas¹'s topic in Driving & Racing Games
Well, that explains it then I guess :) I am one of those people that have no problem with this kind of thing. Just look at Oahu. Most of what is in TDU either doesn't exist, or is very different to reality. For instance, there is no sealed road that goes all the way around the island, just some narrow dirt roads! Of course real life isn't always the most fun and TDU is much better on the 'modified' Oahu than it would be on a 100% authentic version! So the same goes for Ibiza, take the best parts of a great island, modify the rest for maximum fun and you will get a great game! Reality isn't always the best IMO :) Another example is airbrushed female models LOL :D -

Is it just me or do some of the figures in that article make no sense? According to wikipedia Oahu is ~1500 square km, whereas Ibiza is only ~500! Maybe they mean 2.5x more roads?? Still that would be ~4000km of roads on a land mass a third of the size of the original. I guess it might be possible as there are vast areas of Oahu in TDU 1 that have nothing on them, but it seems like it would absolutely cram-packed with roads to me!! Oahu: Land Area: 1500 km^2 Road Length: 1600km km of road per km^2 of land: ~1 Ibiza: Land Area: 500 km^2 Road Length: 4000km km of road per km^2 of land: ~8 (or 1 road every 12 meters of land on average) It's also possible that they have artificially increased the relative size of Ibiza in the game. Seems unlikely, but I'm struggling to see how the 2.5x figure is accurate. Another possibility is just that the line didn't translate well.
