  1. Er, SCAN are dedicated PC specialists too - look at the awards they've won too. The 9600GT performs better than the 3870.. so it can't be that bad. It's not far behind the 8800GT either. Do you actually know anything about computer components? By your reckoning are you saying a 3.6ghz P4 is faster than a 2.0ghz Core 2 Duo? It's not just a numbers game and in anycase the shader core of the 8800GT actually runs at ~1500mhz, not 600. Why are you comparing full stream processors on the 8800GT to sub-stream processors on the 3870? If you're going to compare like for like the figure is either 448 for the 8800GT substream or 64 for the 3870 full stream. In both cases the 8800GT wins. What about TMUs/ROP/Z fill? The 8800GT wins out easily in those counts, and they are far more important. When any game fully supports those then maybe it'll be worth getting, but for now all game developers and microsoft have both said it's pointless. Wow the memory has a slightly higher clock.. which does absolutely nothing when your GPU performance is so far behind anyway. It's like sticking XDR ram on a P4 and comparing it to DDR on an opteron. Please show me some meaningful benchmarks where the 3870 even comes close to the 8800GT and I will let your comment '"This makes the card perform much better on graphically intensive games" stand, otherwise it's just inaccurate.
  2. P&P is free at SCAN if you register with Hexus, several of the components are cheaper at SCAN too, and the 3870 isn't a very good graphics card choice - even the 9600GT beats it, but he should be able to afford a 8800GT which is better still. Also you don't need a heatsink and thermal paste as the CPU you listed already comes with all of those. The retail cooler is fine and pretty quiet already, a third party cooler might be quieter still, but the case you list is pretty loud anyway so you wouldn't notice the difference.
  3. I know the guy who did the music for Far Cry 2 :p
  4. It's seriously bad for you, as are most solvents. Best car smell is cars running on vegetable oils - smell like a chippy!
  5. That's half the fun - terrible songs, good songs.. it doesn't affect the voting in the slightest :p
  6. Anyone else watching? Suitably hydrated I hope ;) My vote's with Latvia this year :excited:
  7. Use the same link that was provided to you before in the email - you should be able to download it unlimited times.
  8. As far as I can tell, everything should be using the atari community logins. If you have a different forum account to atari community account I expect things might not work so well. Also check spam filters for email confirmations.
  9. My eyes!! That welcome message... argghhh! You need to put a health warning somewhere! Besides, Will Wright looks better as a brunette.
  10. Yes we've also told the administrator about it. It only appears immediately after you log in, at all other time the forum link works correctly. The admin also knows about the missing images etc., but if there are any other bugs you spot feel free to let Diablo or myself know and we'll pass them on.
  11. Yes that's where you put it. Did you get your password right?
  12. Just follow the instructions :p First time, login with your username. It'll then remind you what your email address is. Then from then on you use your email address.
  13. *chuckles evily* Wonder if I just messed things up by logging into the mod cp though :p
  14. There wasn't an option for 'it'll be up in less time than they said' ;)
  15. Actually so are the modern S8s. But the exact number of cyclinders wasn't the point - I was just saying that Audi were in fact quite capable of producing american style big, heavy, wallowy cars that have very powerful high capacity engines.
  16. Do we get to bet on how long TDUc will be down when that happens? ;) As far as I know, the Atari downtime is mostly related to the login backend, not especially the forum version itself. But any changes to user login systems obviously have to be quite secure before you go back online.
  17. You can't just stick a copyright notice on something in order to copy it yourself :p Putting a copyright notice on something that someone else owns the rights to is much more likely to appease them but it's not a guarentee that they'll then waive the right in your instance. As for different games.. well thankfully most games don't have a clause about ownership of screenshots/game footage. Which if you think about it is fair enough - you are the one playing the game, so you should really have permission to use footage of that. However it has been put in a couple of pieces of software before - I think it was even in Vista once upon a time, that technically MS own the rights on any screenshots/media taken etc. I would guess that some of this has come about as a result of the accountability some companies are now facing from the courts - if someone uses your game to act out some offensive scene and posts a video of it, the game makers are being held responsible (see hot coffee). By asserting rights to the media they can reduce the risk of that occuring.
  18. If an M3 can do it in 7.33 then how can anyone say a cadillac is breaking a record :? :p edit: Or is sedan some weird type of car that M3s, CLKs, GT-Rs etc. don't fall under?
  19. That's what I said ;)
  20. They can't do FP-HDR at the same time as anti-aliasing, that's true. They might have the option to enable it, but it won't be working properly. They can do integer-HDR (SM2.0b) and AA at the same time, and some games have work around that use shaders for the AA instead of proper AA, or some other blur effects. But to get full FP-HDR + AA you need either a X1/2/3*** from ATI or an 8000/9000 series card from nvidia.
  21. Well you just mentioned the two titles that Infogrames actually make 100% themselves (TDU and AitD), so if you like them then it suggests as a company they do something you like. The other main area they concentrate on is D&D stuff, and their NWN games on the PC are fantastic. Then you've got all the third party stuff that they publish like The Witcher, which is also fab, and finally they distribute games for Namco/Bandai, like DBZ, Ace Combat and so on. It's true that Atari Inc managed to lose quite a lot of money, but that's not the case for Atari EU/Infogrames, so maybe now that Atari Inc will be fully part of Infogrames like Atari EU already is, things might improve.
  22. Yup agreed with most of the above - I'd like to be able to evaluate the demo better, but I have both the control saving problem, and a worse graphical glitch that makes racing about as much fun as a migraine. It's a known problem (mentioned in the readme) but until it's fixed I can't play. The few seconds I could stand it were okish, on a pad, but I didn't play for long enough to get a proper opinion.
  23. How much money does tdu.net.ru get for each download that way?
  24. (PC demo out now)
