You really can't protect the wheels from being scratched in any way imho. If they are curbed or have big stone chips and whatnot, I think the only way is to get those poor wheels refurbished. Some tires in bigger sizes have little rim protectors but that almost have no impact on defending the rims. Polish does not protect anything. It either fills (Glazes, Fillers, and after a few washes the scratches are there again) or cuts away (those are abbrasive polishes). Here's another maybe helpful link that I have in my bookmarks. By the way, cis, I thought MkIV's with 18" wheels had 225/40 tires?

Read you question in the CB and as hassan said I'm anal about our cars, but I'm no pro. So here are a few links that could help you a bit. Alloy wheel cleaner - Page 3 - Detailing World Most people use AS Smart Wheels, Valetpro Bilberry or Sonax Full Effect. But be aware that a number of wheel cleaners remove wax. I use a simple CG Glossworkz car shampoo because I'm poor and have no money to buy more detailing products. Some tar remover, iron-x, clay bar and a polish are also good to have. And don't forget wheel brushes or woolies, with them it's way easier to clean the inside of the rims. And please, no Plastidip. :ew:
