On Wednesday, the Japanese police's juvenile crimes division arrested a 19-year-old shop worker and two 16-year-old boys from Tokyo's Izu Ōshima island for allegedly breaking into a store for cash. According to the police, the three Ōshima Town residents called themselves the "Kaitō Kids of Ōshima," after the phantom thief that appears in the Detective Conan (Case Closed) anime. The three suspects allegedly committed a total of 20 burglaries, theft of monetary offerings (such as those at shrines and temples), and other crimes since last December. The authorities said that the suspects admitted, "We did it for the sense of thrill. We enjoyed the fear and sense of accomplishment." The authorities added that the total haul from the crimes was over 680,000 yen (about US$8,100). The Kaitō Kid character has not only appeared in the Detective Conan anime franchise, but also in his own Magic Kaito anime and manga. Source:ANN

Next year's combined 3rd/4th volume of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is announcing on Monday that a television anime adaptation of Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro's Toriko manga has been green-lit. In the story, the title character Toriko is a "Bishokuya" (gourmet food provider) who travels the world to hunt down the animals and plants needed for the finest cuisine dishes. The anime series will premiere next April at 9:00 a.m. on Sundays on Fuji TV and other stations. The manga has been running in Weekly Shonen Jump since 2008, and the 12th compiled book volume is shipping this month. The magazine had already announced in September that a 3D film version of Toriko (and One Piece) will open in Japan on March 19, 2011. There were also two Toriko anime specials produced for this year's and last year's Jump Super Anime Tour events. Viz Media will publish the fourth volume of the manga in North America next March. Fuji TV's 9:00 a.m. timeslot on Sundays is currently held by Dragon Ball Kai. The Toriko television anime will run before the One Piece television anime series, which currently runs at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays on Fuji TV. Source:ANN

Starchild Records, the anime label of the music company King Records, began streaming a television commercial for the Oniichan no Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne—!! anime series on Tuesday. The anime adapts Kōichi Kusano's online manga of the same name, which centers around the "slightly dangerous relationship" between Shūsuke (Toshiyuki Toyonaga), a boy who likes risque books and DVDs, and Nao (Eri Kitamura), Shūsuke's younger sister. Aniplex of America announced on Monday that it will release ufotable's entire Kara no Kyoukai - the Garden of sinners film series in an English-subtitled Blu-ray Disc box in North America on February 8, 2011. The eight-disc box will include the seven theatrical chapters of the franchise plus the bonus Final Chapter that will be available for the first time in February. The online retailer Right Stuf will be the exclusive distributor. The Japanese Blu-ray Disc box of the film series will ship less than a week earlier on February 2. Right Stuf will offer the North American version for US$398.98. (The Japanese release will sell for 52,500 yen or about US$620, although that is the suggested retail price before discounts.) Kinoko Nasu's original novels center around Shiki Ryougi — a beautiful, yet rather unsociable, girl. A strange series of violent deaths start occurring in her town. As a boy named Mikiya Kokuto attempts to get closer to Shiki, he soon learns that the two are connected and that there are many supernatural forces at work which could very likely get him killed as well. Besides the seven theatrical chapters and the bonus Final Chapter, the Blu-ray box will feature the 60-minute edited Remix - Gate of Seventh Heaven- compilation of the first six films and the 50-minute Retracing All Seven Chapters of The Garden of Sinners television special. The same Visual Chronicle Book (with staff interviews, every key visual from the franchise, illustrations from each movie, and artwork for DVD packages) will be included in both the Japanese and North American releases. However, the North American release will add a separate booklet with English translations of the text in the Visual Chronicle Book. Takashi Takeuchi, the novels' co-creator and illustrator, drew exclusive new artwork (pictured above) for the box's cover. Prolific composer Yuki Kajiura (Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, .hack, Noir, Puella Magi Madoka Magica) scored the music in this film series. The general affairs committee of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly has approved the government's revised bill to amend the Youth Healthy Development Ordinance on Monday afternoon. Bill 156 will then go before the full assembly for a vote on Wednesday. The current ordinance already prevents the sale and renting of "harmful publications" — materials that are "sexually stimulating, encourages cruelty, and/or may compel suicide or criminal behavior" to people under the age of 18. Bill 156 would require the industry to also regulate "manga, anime, and other images (except for real-life photography)" that "unjustifiably glorify or exaggerate" certain sexual or pseudo sexual acts. Another section of the revised bill would allow the government to directly regulate the above images if the depicted acts are also "considered to be excessively disrupting of social order" such as rape. Update: The bill has a non-binding supplemental resolution urging newly designated harmful publications to be “carefully regulated, with the work's merits based on artistic, social, educational, and satirical criticism criteria to be taken into account in the evaluation process.” The government's Tokyo Youth Healthy Development Evaluation Panel is also urged to respect “the intent of the revision and take necessary steps, such as increasing the time involved in the evaluation process.” Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan wrote in his blog on Monday: There is another topic I would like to talk about concerning [the strength of] the Japanese brand. Currently, there are concerns over the possibility that the Tokyo International Animation Fair could be cancelled due to controversies related to the healthy development of youth issues. Healthy development of youth is an important issue. At the same time, it is important that Japanese animation is broadcast to a global audience. I urge all parties involved to try to work toward preventing a situation where an international animation fair cannot be held within Tokyo. Shueisha senior managing director and editor Kazuhiko Torishima said at the New Manga Creators Awards ceremony on Monday: “I want new manga authors to produce manga that would blow away [Tokyo Governor] Shintaro Ishihara.” Masahiko Ibaraki, the editor-in-chief of Shueisha's third editorial department, added to the new manga creators, "Don't let the chilling effect [of increased regulation] stop you from doing material you want to do. What the hell was that! I mean announcing a 2011 game and showing an old car, so is this them saying they're going with the FM3 approach again? Give us cars from the last 3 years+ and make us pay for the new ones via DLC. Or how about a Limited Edition with special bonuses ....I mean free cars that are already in the game but with pretty paintjobs. No how about holding back tracks so that they can also be sold as DLC or ignoring your community completely, and last but not least multiplayer so dull and abysmal that people would rather play the previous version than the new. Personally I may just wait till Autumn 2012 when I can get the game with everything for hardly anything to get my FM4 race time. Let's see how this one goes.

The illustrator Hidari (Uso-tsuki Mii-kun to Kowareta Maa-chan light novel) is creating the original character designs. The Nikkan Sports newspaper reported on Saturday that Shoji Nishizaki, the adopted son of the late Space Battleship Yamato producer Yoshinobu Nishizaki, hinted that he has begun production on new Yamato works including a television series and another film. Shoji Nishizaki appeared with singer Isao Sasaki and about 400 people at a service for the late producer in Tokyo on Friday. Yoshinobu Nishizaki had passed away at the age of 75 due to a fall from a boat on November 7. Shoji Nishizaki is the president of Enagio, the anime studio that produced last December's Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection film (pictured at right). Yoshinobu Nishizaki directed the film — the first new one in the space opera franchise in 26 years — and oversaw its production. According to Nikkan Sports, Shoji Nishizaki also spoke about a director's cut of Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection. A live-action film adaptation of the franchise opened on December 1 and has earned over 1 billion yen (over US$12 million). 38-year-old SMAP band member Takuya Kimura (Howl's Moving Castle's Howl) headlines this film based on the anime classic, which was adapted as Star Blazers in English. In the pics the Tricolore has the wrong wheels however in the pre-order trailer they have the right ones except for the rear wheels being wrong obviously. However it appears the Zonda F doesn't have this problem which is good. And oh yes, if you notice something post it up.
