wiki guide is live now https://turboduck.net/guide/
feel free to start adding question and answers
layout and style are still work in progress
use the test template for messing around with the wiki markups, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Wikitext
if you're interested adding other guide / Q&A feel free to start new record
if you truely fucked up a record, use restore button to revert back to previous version
I can't handle overwork anymore, too tired from work, gonna pass out
Great job. I'm going to put together a basic list of things, but it might take me awhile.

Theres a lot of good tips in this thread that should probably be compiled in an FAQ or wiki by now.
4 gb patch for crashing, frame drops
x360ce and DS4windows for gamepad issues
G27 fix for wheels
Borderless Gaming app for alt tabbing (prevents black screen iirc)
Enble vsync, capping fps to 60 to prevent traffic bugAnd probably a lot of other things I can't recall atm
-
Framerate issues may be ram issues in some cases. I usually never get frame drops, but it'll happen if I have a browser open and its ram usage bloats up over time. So, try closing all nonessential apps if you get hit with drops, especially if everything is fine for awhile and then the drops start occurring later on.

I love the mod! Totally forgot about TDU but this makes me play it again. I was wondering if there is a possibility to make a wireless xbox one controller work? It connects to my computer via the xbox one dongle
Did you try it yet? Xbox1 drivers should connect because they're xinput. But if they don't, try x360ce, 32-bit build.

But what's disrecpectful about fixing a bug inside a mod as long as you don't take credit for the whole mod? And yes, importing models from other games is theft. Modders don't ask the devs permission to import their models
Because as a general rule, it keeps the modding community healthy. It results in less idiots messing with others projects and creating unnecessary disputes that way.
And secondly, piracy is not theft, it's copyright infringement.. but regardless, any concerns about morality are irrelevant because each modding community gets to decide what it's own rules are. Even in the topsite piracy scene, there are even much stricter rules that warez groups must abide by, comparatively.
So, just be happy with what you get for free.

No you can not. TDU 1 never allowed it. About classic cars, you must wait it show up available with the rim you want/like better.
Yep.. I'm still waiting for these. So many rims now, gotta keep checking back.

Which version you have? I tried older DS4Windows versions but those crash after 2 seconds I launch DS4Windows.exe.
DS4Windows - Jays2Kings Build (Version 1.4.52)
I believe this was by the original maintainer, before the project got forked.
Also there is a quirk to it. Before closing the program, I always have an app running called USB Safely Remove. I use that to do a safe removal of the (emulated) Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller before closing DS4Windows.
Because if the x360 emulated driver doesn't automatically remove itself after closing DS4Windows, then it breaks and you can't use it anymore until you do a hard reboot. This screws the OS to the point you can't even shut down via Windows, so you'll have to manually hold the power button to power off.
It sounds messed up but its the best solution I've found for my system atm. Anyway its almost always a reliable process, so I've been sticking with it.. (and it has good rumble and touchpad mouse support). Maybe x360ce works too, but iirc I couldn't get it working right.

Anybody here playing with DS4 PS4 Controller? I need some help, I can't figure out how to get throttle and brake to work properly, TDU identifies the L2 and R2 axis as Button 7 and Button 8 and when I don't press the throttle all the way down it behaves as button and gets into full throttle. Is there way I could fix this?
Use ds4windows. Remap the ds4 triggers to xbox 360's Right Stick - Right, and Right Stick - Up. This will give full analog use to the triggers. Also you may need to use an older build; I had issues with the newer ones.

Yeah got the Halawai Blvd issue as well, I've tried the race twice now and it doesn't do the finishing screen quite right, and doesn't let me press Next. The game world carries on going, all the racing cars stop though, also tried it in two different cars so far, EK2 Civic Type R and Focus SVT.
Did you at least get credited for the Gold Cup finish on the map after you restart the game? I did, so I just moved on, lol.

I can'n finish the race "Halawai Boulevard" (group F). The "continue" button after the race is simply not activated.
I might have had that issue. Try exiting the game and restarting. I thought it might've been just me and it only happened a few times on some early missions so I didn't bring it up. Anyway, heres what I wrote down earlier:
Halawai Blvd race by classic chevy dealership (couldn't exit after finishing)
Lead Soles (by ferrari tuner)
170mph in Heavy Traffic (east of muscle tuner)3 hours ago, ferisanse said:I found from time to time car suddenlystops. I guess it is because there was a police strike slip but neither the strip nor the police car were visible? Is that a known bug? Is there a fix for that?
On the other hand, is it intended the strange behavior of other cars that suddenly cross lines and stop in the middle of the road?
Thank you in advance for your help.
On the Project Paradise launcher, tick the Vsync box. It sounds like you need to cap your fps to 60.

Try setting app compatibility to win xp, vista or 7. Cap the framerate to 60.. use Borderless Gaming app.. and look here for other things you can do.

Rare and expensive cars

This was a memorable experience.. TDU marathon for 4 straight days, lol.
So, I can confirm the sp campaign works great. Start to finish, no issues.
Must've heard Bananarama, Tupac Changes, and Kavinsky Nightcall like a million times.
Also the delivery missions are great picks, and same goes for the reward cars.
-
Maybe try x360ce, the 32-bit version.. the game may pick it up better than the standard x360 drivers. Try switching between xinput and directinput too.

FFB is for wheels.. do you mean rumble?

To be honest for a second I thought about requiring login to download
Because even tho we are getting lot of traffic from launch but most of them come download and leave, thats why there is a huge surge of bounce rate (people who visit and leave within 20 seconds ) so downside is we are not seeing registration go up from this one time surge of traffic
But then I decided not to be a dick because it's not my work (out of respect for all creator ) and I want to be free and convience for all user and visitor
Good choice.
Imo, allowing for easier downloading means more ppl will play and talk about the game, which should naturally lead to more forum regs. And they'll be meaningful regs, not just made for downloading.

I don't get any errors, the game just freezes at connecting to TestDrive servers...
Thats odd. If you can connect normally with your existing profile, then the only thing I can think of is the server blocking your ip from registering too many new accounts.. like some sort of spam filter. Maybe resetting and changing your ip might do something.

So it is really not Platinum related. It's probably my computer, somehow.
Thats weird. Are you typing in different emails and passwords? Using a different email for each profile, and retyping the pw on each attempt might do something.
When I was trying out different names, when I reticked the gamespy box, I got "The password you entered was invalid." , which was kind of strange because it wasn't abnormal or anything. Anyway, I kept manually retyping the pw on latter attempts and it went through.
-
I managed to get a new profile working online just now. I tried a few names, got different messages at times:
"The password you entered was invalid."
"This nickname is already in use with another password."
Then I got one through. After the rookie race and going back to the house, it said I could freeroam online.. but no one was showing up on the map. So I restarted and now its working fine.

Yeah, it should work, but it's not working all the time. I tried it here. Been losing my mind about it, to be honest. Lol
You know, there have been a record amount of people on today.. I saw 165 earlier and 150 just now.
Maybe new profiles aren't going through atm. Just a guess.

Do anyone know a method to actually get a new online profile to work? Out of 7 i created in order to test, only 1 worked. And i don't know why exactly.
Don't you just make a name (thats not taken online), then add email and pw for gamespy?

[RELEASED] Test Drive Unlimited Platinum - v1.21

If you're on 1920x1080, try lowering your resolution to 1280x720, and use Borderless Gaming app to make it borderless fullscreen. I did this to get a stable 60fps on a potato awhile back. It's not the same situation as having a higher spec pc, but lowering the resources may get things running smooth and stable.
But in all honesty, the frames dropping over time issue sounds like a memory leak, or bloat. Like what Firefox used to do. It would run fine for a time, but eventually it would eat up so much ram that the app would grind to a slide show. I'm aware there are methods to diagnose memory leaks and flush Window's memory cache without having to reboot or close the program, but thats beyond my knowledge.
What I do know is that Platinum runs fine on my machine and others with different systems and setups. So, the good news is that something probably just needs to be enabled or disabled on your machine for everything to work fine.
I would start with closing all nonessential apps and testing stability. Then closing/disabling all overlays, or nonessential graphics driver settings. Then testing WinXP SP3 compatibility in the properties of the .exe. Maybe also trying different graphics cards if any spares are on hand. Or try a registry repair app, etc.
