Well, these are not from Vista, but funny all the same, using XP Pro. I forget which program this comes from, but I've had it happen to me several times: Yeah, you think it's cryptic enough? :confused: And then there's this one. My burner program is NTI DVD Maker. There's a bug I've encountered, where from time to time, it fails to detect burning speed and doesn't allow you to select one, with the drop down being blank. So then, it tries warp speed, baby!

Heh, no. I don't know him, but the crashing of Quake Wars and then the glitches in TDU made me think it was an overheating issue.

I think it's due to overheating. Quake Wars probably crashed due to overheating, and then you didn't give it a long enough break before playing TDU.

You know what they should do? Set it in England, and considering how popular Top Gear is these days, co-brand it with Top Gear. I'd be a win-win. Most of the cars they've tested are already in this game anyway.

Not to rain on the parade, but by mods, I'm not so sure they mean car mods, as in adding cars, but smaller modifications to alter the game experience. I believe adding cars would take a it step too far, and possibly even allow people to cheat by altering the stats of cars, which is precisely why the release of cars was controlled by Atari when the online portion of the game is such an integral part of the game. I wouldn't want to be the one caught doing something due to a mistranslation issue. I would much less like to be the one caught with my pants down. This could be disastrous to the community. So, to clarify, I think what this announcement is saying is they're OK with sound mods, wheel rim mods, colour mods and night-time/fog mode. The minute that people start bringing in new cars that Atari hasn't officially OK'd, that change the game's impact for others, I think that's when problems will arise. It won't matter if they're the same models as on the X-Box, but that introducing them onto the PC version without Atari's consent will cause them to raise a red flag. That's not something the community wants to happen, does it?

After some consideration, I'm getting the G25. Weeeee! :D I have an AMD 3200+ (2Ghz), GeForce 6800GS and 2GB of Ram. I can run the game smoothly without HDR on. Am I going to have any problems with this setup? I'm asking because I know Force Feedback wheels tend to slow framerates down a bit.

Hmmm, I haven't experienced that. If anything, I'm in the lead most of the time, and it's almost as if the game drops the horsepower down.

At this rate and with Atari's attitude towards those who bought the PC version, I somehow doubt we'll get a PC version of the sequel due to low TDU sales, even if there will be one. I'm guessing if there is a sequel in production, I'm almost counting on it to be console only.

Try it then. Buy the cheapest Jag (not the Classic), race around a bit in free mode to get a feel for the car, upgrade it to stage 3, then try it in a single player race. It's a great car with lots of power for its class, and Stage 3 makes it even better. I bet you'll start to wonder where the horsepower has gone when you do a race. And I repeat, it isn't at all like that when just driving around in free mode. It's really odd.

I don't think that's the problem. It feels normal during cruising around. It's only during race instances that it changes.

I just got back into the game after a clean format and install of XP, and there's something very noticeable I've noticed happening, even before. I had the Cheapest Jaguar tuned up to Stage 3, and while just cruising around normally, I get a top speed of around 143 with it, but if I do a race, the top speed will be substantially lower, like 124 or something. This has puzzled me. I did the race over and over to test things and it doesn't do it all the time, but when it does, it almost feels like the car doesn't have the same horsepower, so it's frustrating when it hits the 120's as top speed when it should be much higher.

So, if having a corrupted game before the patch wasn't enough, I just recently got it corrupted again after the patch. Doesn't look good either. My brother was over for Canadian Thanksgiving and we played the game all weekend and we had made a lot of progress, and then the game locked up, hard. At first, we thought it would be OK after rebooting as it looked like it could have been a normal crash as it looked normal afterwards, but no amount of rebooting fixed this one. The game would run, but the game would be nigh unplayable. At first we noticed some slowness, both in performance and loading, which worried me. And then we tried to drive around and my heart sank. It was totally unplayable. We're talking about 1 FPS here. And the sound was sounding like a cat coughing up a hairball. I won't be installing this one for quite awhile now as I have Oblivion to finish up, but it really cheeses me off that corruption is so common. Even my brother, who's a computer engineer was puzzled as to how a crash like this would corrupt a game and make it unplayable.

Generally, when saving in photoshop, it will ask you how much you want to compress the file, so make sure you're not saving at too low a quality otherwise you'll start to see artifacts. Also, by default, an image loaded up into photoshop will automatically be resized to fit the screen, which means you're not looking at it fully zoomed in, while it's not physically resized. This tends to confuse people. Lastly, pictures will look darker when loading them in photoshop. This is because when you're playing the game, the gamma is applied dynamically using the videocard processing. You just need to adjust the image until you get the same levels to how it looked in game.

I'd offer myself up as a camera, but then, I don't have a wheel to make things go smoother as it would more or less be stop and start. Also, I'd recommend whoever ends up being the camera chooses a car with a low engine noise so as to not drown out the engine noises of the focus cars. As for a carpark, I thought I saw one along a road somewhere, but I can't remember where. It wasn't anywhere near the stadium either. -

Now that you mention it, other games too have had fuel consumption, as far back as the Indy 500 game, but then again, for circuit racing, it's almost a given, otherwise it wouldn't be very realistic. I haven't played any of the Big Rigs games, but I think those have fuel consumption, though I may be wrong. lol ironically, looking up on Mobygames brings up the Atari 2600 Indy 500 game that was made by them. Not the same one I was actually talking about.

Well, I had been running with HDR on for quite awhile but once I found the fps command, I realized I was actually getting pretty low FPS, but it still didn't bother me too much as it was still quite playable. That, is, until today, when I figured I could be getting a better fps. I was hovering between 14-17 fps. Surprisingly, yes, it was still quite playable, but there were some missions like the Lotus Day mission that was too hard because of the stuttering when entering the city with so many cars on screen at once. So, I decided to disable HDR and my fps nearly doubled. I now get in the high twenties when in car, and in the 30's using the chase cam view, and things are much smoother. I can actually feel that things are much faster now and more responsive. The game seems to be very memory intensive, even for folks who have at least 2GB of ram like I do, so for those of you who are strugging to get a good enough FPS, try disabling HDR. It sure is pretty, but I can do without it when this game is such a memory hog. My Stats: Processor: AMD 3200+ Video: Geforce 6800GS 256MB PCI-E Audio: Realtek AC97 onboard (no sound problem here, before or after the patch) 2GB Ram I realize my video card might be a bottleneck, but it isn't all that old. I got it last year when the 6800's just came out.

Yeah, that sounds like a great idea. I mean, not to compare TDU with flight sims, but you do have the option or running out of fuel or not in them, so the fact that TDU likes to call itself a realistic driving experience, it would make sense to have that option. And while we're at it, I'll say I want a body shop. Have damage in Hardcore mode where body shops are only accessible with that mode. That's one of the things I can't believe they left out. It just seems a little backwards considering practically every other racing game has damage these days. Sure, there are crazies that would damage your car, but then, damage would keep you on your toes and would add to the immersion and perhaps curb people from speeding all the time. Then you could laugh at someone as you see them wrap their Ferrari around a pole ;) It's pretty much a lifestyle sim, right? And I think adding damage would have people value their cars that much more. It would add a whole new dynamic to the game. Then when you have enough damage, you'd go to the body shop to have it fixed up. I'm not sure how many of you used to play 1nsane by Codemasters, but that game was brilliant. It introduced new racing modes like capture the flag and king of the hill. Basically, modes that you would only expect in first person shooters. It was pretty innovative. Among the innovations was the damage modeling. Wow, was it ever awesome. Damage was never the same twice. It was modular, and it was dynamic. Whatever spot you hit was the spot that actually got damaged. Parts would go flying off, affecting your vehicle and the frame of your vehicle would actually change based on the impact of your collisions. All this factored into the physics and car handling. If your frame was damaged enough, your center of mass would change, your steering would be affected, etc. I think that technology was carried over to the Colin McRae series of games. That's the kind of stuff I'd like to see in a TDU sequel.

It would definitely be a first. It would also add to the experience. I think they may have put in gas stations as a nod to the earlier games of the series. Both Test Drive 1 & 2 were games that had legs. As you finished one leg, you'd have to stop at the gas station where it would show you the stats for how well you did before you continued on to the next leg. If you didn't stop in time for the gas station, it'd be game over.
