If the sata is connected it will still make the noise, there is a fat black cable with a white end that plugs into the back that is the one that relays the game data to the processors ect.

I had the same problem on a Hitachi 51 drive you need to open your xbox the reconnect the sata and power cables in the back of the dvd drive, these come lose on the Hitachi series for some reason. Failing that you'll need to replace the dvd drive, these can be found on ebay for around £20. I advise getting either the Ben-Q or the Siemens drives (Ben-Q being the more expensive) These work great and as your are opening the case and dvd drive you may as well flash your drive to play your backed up games (of course you need the original's ;) )

Go for the upgrade, take the site down for a few day's to sort it all then re-open all fresh and new. Now diablo i know you want to give something back but my advice: wait until the turn over is £+ don't lose money, because eventually the site will have to close. SAW could return, but unfortunetly you have to make decisions that the whole community may not agree with, in order to keep this site open. I've said it before, and I'll most properly say it again. I'd rather the site lived than I had a little car.
