  1. I'm also for recovering. You can port your files on a different HDD. Wouldnt really recommend to keel the one in use though. Have a problem with my HDD too, and I definitly will recover all the files on a fresh HDD, even if that means reinstall some programms again.

  2. Before import you can choose how it should split the model. You can rather split it by materials, by groups (seperated objects) or no split at all. I recommend you to split by groups.

     

    The problem with ZModeler is, it is not build to handle such highpoly models. If an unsplitted object got more than ~50k polys, it is destroying the model like yours and there is no way to avoid that once it's imported.

  3. Fork_xx are the dummies for the rims. One of the dummies in it is responsible for the dimensions of the rims. Scale them for a bigger wheel (tire+rim) and rotate them for camber. If you scale the tire (which is another dummy) there will rather be a gap between rim and tire (if you scale it up) or the tyre will be inside the rim (if you scale it down) so i dont recommend you to scale the tire dummy at all.
