5040 Mod - Is it possible?

I am interested in creating a mod that fixes 2d graphic distortions caused by running TDU at ultra-wide resolutions: 5040x1050, 3840x1024, 3072x768.

 

These resolutions are possible when running TDU on a system with multiple monitors setup with either the Matrox Triple Head 2 Go or the ATI Eyefinity graphics cards.

 

Problems arise at these resolutions because of the way TDU determines the screen positions of 2D graphic Overlays. It appears that TDU sets percentages of horizontal and vertical screen resolution to determine the width and height of the Menu, dials, and maps. Here are some examples:

As you can see at these resolutions the 2D graphics become horribly stretched. Also, the GPS and Dials are pushed to the outside edges when using the In-Car view and Hood view which makes them very hard to use.

 

Another problem that has arisen from using these high resolutions is that the game has trouble on start-up. The opening videos won’t display at these resolutions. The Matrox drivers compensate for this by minimizing the application as the animations run, so the player ends up having to click repeatedly on the application to maximize it which will allow it to run the next animation, which then causes the application to minimize again. This process is repeated until TDU gets to the menu, then it works fine (besides being distorted).

 

The goals of the 5040 Mod would be:

 

1. Allow the opening animations to run on startup or skip them altogether.

2. Resize the 2D GPS and Dials when driving.

3. Reposition 2D GPS and Dials to appear on the center monitor.

4. Resize the Menus when navigating in-game (House, Garage, Dealers)

5. Resize the Menus when out of game (Main Menu, Pause screen)

6. Resize the Island Map and all of the distorted Icons on the map (Some are OK).

 

Everything else would be left as “Vanilla” as possible.

 

So the question is: Is this Mod even possible?

 

I’ve been reading through the forums and I read a lot of information on editing the textures themselves, but I haven’t seen anything on changing their size or position on-screen. This leads me to believe this may be hard-coded into the game and not changeable. That would be a letdown, but the game is still very playable even with the 2D graphics distorted. At the bare minimum I am hoping to find some fix for the opening animation “crashing”.

 

Please bear in mind that this is not a “Mod Request”. I am completely willing to do all of the work myself. I’ve Moded other games before and I understand the amount of work this mod may potentially require. This is simply a proof-of-concept evaluation request.

I was affraid that might be the answer.

 

What about the startup videos? Anyway to skip or replace with higher res so that they don't crash the game at startup.

 

 

The reason why I want to do this is because I love playing t he game in 5040. It's very immersive. The only bad thing are the 2D graphics are all streched out. That and the videos are crashing at start.

 

Anyone else have any ideas?

IIRC, you can rename the videos so that they'll be "missing"

As for the multiple monitor resolutions, I'm not sure if there's a way to change the FOV, like on LFS.

Actually I like the FOV, it's only the 2D overlays that I'm interested in changing.

woow i agree with you that it's much more realistic to play with these resolutions, and ithink it actually is possible to resize the gps and the dials, i will maybe try it.

i play also 5040x1050 and i have turned off my hud, but the fov is like a fisheye (whit TrackIR). anyone know its possible to change it?

 

 

BTW D-Gen : for the opening animation, try rename "video" to "video_". So you have no intro
