A GT is a car that can do the cross-country/continent jaunts with little to no hassle in a hell of a lot of luxury and comfort like the Continental GT, Ferrari 612, Ferrari 599 (though it's a Super GT), DB9, Vanquish, SLR etc... Oh yeah also has some fairly decent luggage space.

The Veyron is a Hypercar and yes even a Luxury GT also, it's a one of a kind as no other car can provide the same experience as the Veyron. The SSC might be faster but it's got no style of it's own and it's interior is the same as a Koenigsegg, the Saleen S7 TT is not a comfortable car, you would not want to be doing cross-country driving in that unless you had your chiropractor in the passengers seat. :D

Hybrid you are correct that the Mercedes Gullwing 300SL is in fact the first supercar but the word was never used to describe it until after the actual first recollected usage that CAR magazine used for the Miura. So after the term was coined other cars previous to the Miura's time did get the title and yep, the 300SL is remarked to as being the worlds' first supercar.

ash I'm not sure what age you are but you need to grow up and read what people are saying, and as for that definition of 'supercar' you found, I'm sorry but that's what Need for Speed or Fast and the Furious fanclub might say but real auto enthusiasts know what a real supercar is and it's not a tuned factory car. :rolleyes:

Drift I guess you didn't see the part where I said I know you can spend money on tuning any car and make it as fast as a Ferrari or a Lamborghini but that still doesn't make it a Supercar. The Miura is a supercar and can now be beaten by a Vauxhall Monaro for £40k, does that make the Monaro a supercar, no chance! And noone belittles the JDM crowd apart from usually in reply to the JDM followers as you said, and of course if you like JDM you are going to look at the Z-tune rather than the F40, that's the way you're inclined but stick those 2 in a city center where there is all kinds of people and the F40 will be the one being looked at and having it's pictures taken more of. Hybrid is right, the term is a strange and difficult one to give out but one things for sure it's easy to tell what doesn't deserve the title and unfortunately that is most JDM, hell even most US and European cars don't deserve it either. Oh and RB, imo I would say the new Nissan GT-R is not a supercar, it's again a sportscar in the same bracket as the F430, Z06, Gallardo, 997 turbo etc... @macd: The Evo FQ is not a factory model or it wasn't when it was originally released, it's heavily tuned by UK specialists Ralliart. As far as I know you can't just goto a Mitsubishi dealer and just order one.

MGS was amazing, and in MGS4 you go back to Shadow Moses and the nostalgia and memories it brings back is crazy, even just watching small parts of videos makes me remember it. MGS is always known for it's hidden humour, I remember if you looked at one of the posters in a locker and called Otacon Snake had a hell of a smile on his face. Plus who could forget the Psycho Mantis reading your controller thus you could never hit him. It was just sheer genius and I don't think MGS4 is going to be any different.

Nobodys putting down the Japanese cars, all we're saying is they are not Supercars in the actual sense of the word that was coined back almost 50 years ago. It's been difficult for Japan to get it's own proper supercar due to the recently expired Gentleman's Agreement. And your expensive cars remark is ironically cheap, any car can be expensive if you put enough money into it- £100,000 Lotus Lada anyone? - But that still doesn't make them Supercars. Supercars are a whole different breed! :D

Classy! :D Though I'd pick the Miura over it anyday. In fact speaking of the Miura the way we use 'Supercar' nowadays is due to the way CAR magazine described the Miura back in the 60's.

Supercar all one word means a high performance usually exotic from the factory, a Super car is a car that is good at what it does. A Rolls Royce Phantom is a luxury car, not a supercar, it's for touring or being driven around in, a Supercar is a car that only those who are lucky enough to do well in life can have and enjoy, it's the cars they have dreamed about owning since they were a kid, they are the posters you had on your wall when you were very young (not after watching Fast and the Furious), they are the cars that when you see them you go "Wow" and your mouth stays open. They are the cars that epitomise how far you have come in life and bring a smile to your face and those around you. A standard Skyline does not do that, a Ferrari F40, a McLaren F1, a Lamborghini Countach, a Porsche Carrera GT and hell even a Saleen S7 does all of this and those who own these cars can only know the thrill and excitement of the time you turn that key. A highly tuned sportscar might put a smile on your face and might be faster than a Supercar but at the end of the day you will look at a Supercar that pulls up beside you more than anything. And if you were to park a Ferrari F40 and a Skyline Z-tune on the street together, no prizes for guessing what would have the biggest crowd. There isn't as far I can think a proper Supercar from Japan (whatever happened to that one shaped like a bullet?), the NSX is a very competent sportscar but it's not a Supercar in the real sense of the word, on second thoughts the NSX is a Japanese Supercar, it had the styling, the pace and the non-practicality, it handles very well but is not as poised and requires attention to drive hard so yeah I guess the NSX is a Japanese Supercar after all. Due to films like Fast and the Furious the term Supercar is being associated with cars that don't deserve the title. Again I say a lot of cars are super cars but they are not Supercars! As Jeremy Clarkson said on one of his earlier Videos (wow that old huh?) :D
