It needs multiplayer though. There is one group attempting it but they have claimed the same for multiple other single-player games and never pulled it off.

If he was playing on a VAC server then a permanent ban would have come around in about 2 weeks from the incident, but if he was not playing on a VAC server then a ban would have been impossible. More on (VAC) Valve Anti-Cheat. -
