Window Tints?!

i really need help with this. for over a year now ive tried to tint windows but ive never got the hand of it. i either end up with no windows, or this:

This was done by making the alpha channel slightly darker. and all i get is these strange markings on the windows. I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO DO THIS PROPERLY.

You need to make the alpha channel slightly brighter ;) I've got these strange lines on some cars, dunno why.

ok, so to make it darker, i make the alpha brighter... so......how do i get rid of those strange markings?

 

and when you say "slightly brighter", how slightly? im changing the brightness +10, and in DXTBMP (which is the program i use) the alpha is changing a LOT.

Dunno, just try.. Like if you make it all white, you cant see into your car.

I dont know how to fix those strange lines..

just one last thing....what does an alpha channel actually do? what does it control?
