I use CS2. And I had a friend who had trouble opening RAWs in photoshop. I didn't need to download any updates for Photoshop, and have never had any problems with RAW files. The fact it is a CR2 file is simply because you have a Canon camera. Nikon's are given as .NEFs.

 

And if you want to view them in Windows, then download and install this. It basically works like the standard image viewer, but does RAWs.

It's not HDR if you're just going from the same starter shot :p

It is possible - but you'll need to take multiple exposures and combine them.

Or get Dynamic Photo HDR.

Let's you use a single jpeg file.

It's fake, but it works brilliant for me.
