I got a quote on a PC the otherday cos im thinking of upgrading in a few months. Can anyone tell me if these are decent specs for the price? (i don't know ATI stuff that well so im not sure whats good & whats not)

Tbh you really would want more than just 2gb.

 

Especially if you are having a quad core as with only 2gb its kind of pointless having a nice quad core.

It is a build it yourself rig & that price is dirt cheap here. I was hoping for a bit more ram but atleast it's PC5300 RAM.

look at my spec and it was all done for about 500-1000 AUD. cant remember the ecact price.

Half true, it all depends on the whole setup of the system as to how much RAM Windows will recognise, BIOS will usually recognise the full amount, although it has been known not to.

 

It's pretty complex, and I can't be arsed typing an essay. Google is your friend on this one.

Yes i know :) there are also ways to get more than 4gb working on 32bit, but why dont buy 64 bit its not that much expensiver

dont go for an original phenom as they are awful. Phenom II is a good choice, that or a Core 2

PC5300 is the worst kind of DDR2. You should go for PC6400 or better

Did you actually convert it from AUD to EUR? His comes out at €814 which is over a hundred cheaper than what you quoted later on.

Yes and no, sometimes the system robs ram before Windows sees it. Hence I said google it as it's pretty complex and can be very different from machine to machine. :)

But with you're AMD processor and a Ati card you can easily overclock your pc.

Get E8400. Enough Said, those low speed quad cores are crap tbh. If your gaming alot the E8300-E8600 is your CPU my friend!

The processor isnt cheap but its fast (highend intel isnt cheap either)

my advice is buy an Intel dual core like beem3r said or if you must have an amd buy a AM2 Phenom II X2 or wait for the Athlon II's or intel's lynnfield cpu's
