Ford Escort MK1 Concept

I know this is just a design by a guy from coventry but it looks really good, I would definately get one, I like the old rally cars.

Ford Escort MK1 Concept

benchmark-ford-escort-mk-1-concept-rear.jpgOne of the most well loved performance cars in Europe, the Ford Escort never caught on stateside. Now, an Automotive Design graduate from Coventry University is trying to change that. Rajesh Kutty's Ford Escort MK1 concept brings modern retro design to the classic coke-bottle shape. The 1967 original featured downsized design cues from American muscle cars, throwing a few original ideas into the mix. The Mk1's dog bone grill is carried over, but hides behind driving lights inspired by the Escort's rally success. The concept's shape and headlights in particular remind us of the Connaught Type-D, could the original Escort have been an influence on that car's design? One more picture after the jump.

It looks ok i guess but it's a disgrace to what the Mk.1 already looks like. IMO they should ditch Focus' now and bring out new Escorts, bring out new Granadas, new Sierras and ditch the Mustang for 5 years and release new Capris because Mustang don't change anymore.

That car looks nice. They give you guys the good cars, and give us bland crappy cars.

Well sorry to rain on everyones parade but the chances of that car being built (especially by Ford) are somewhere between not a lot and zero.

As Nodz says this is from an Automotive Design graduate in Coventry (UK, just in case there are other Coventrys in the world). As part of their design course they'll have to come up with a concept for a vehicle. The course in Coventry is widely recognised and the designs from the students (I think they may be their final year project) often get published to the world, either in UK car magazines and of course these days the internet.

But I can't see this car ever being built ... as with pretty much 99.99% of the other designs that get shown from Coventry students ... as I said this is likely to be his final year project so something that'll contribute towards his final grade and also be a 'look at me' for him to get a job somewhere.

Now on to some more things ... well the car itself is a typical styling concept if you look at the size of the glasshouse with respect to the body it's tiny and the lateral head clearance zone looks non-existant ... you couldn't have the 'spots' on the front of the car as standard due to Pedestrian Impact requirements in Europe ... and on to the Ford things ... they don't have a small RWD platform (I don't class the Mustang as small)

As to the names ... all car companies, not just Ford decide to change names every now and then when they feel a replacement product needs to be distanced from the outgoing product ... hence Cortina became Sierra became Mondeo and Escort became Focus

As to the Ohh can we have those in our country ... there seems to be an awful lot of chat in general at the moment from Americans wanting European cars ... and a few have made there way over before (but unfortunately been downgraded in the process) ... Obviously the Mk I Focus was both Europe and the States ... yes I know they had different front bumpers and that was to do with the safety requirements varying between the territories and also a thought about the differing styling requirements. One thing americans often forget is how expensive cars are in Europe compared to the states (and yes I'm aware that there are a lot of countries that cars cost more than the UK ... I think Scandinavia is one but lets leave that for another discussion) ...

as to giving you bland cars I for one would love the Mustang to be here in the UK in RHD spec at 'similar' money to in america ... also the Camaro and Challenger are highly likely to never make it in RHD to these shores ... but most of our 'standard' cars are just as boring ... just take a look at the new Renault Laguna ... bland as hell!

Erm, we're already at it ... aren't you forgetting ... the MINI and FIAT 500?

my best mate owned a Manta GTE ... diabolical car

as to the Capri ... I always lusted over a Capri Laser with the 2 tone paint job when I was a kid

as to them returning ... I can't see Ford or Opel/GM producing a modern replacement ... I don't think either company has a platform with a North-South engine layout that can be used in Europe ... and these days the numbers most probably just won't figure
