Songwriting & Writing music

Well i've recently started songwriting as i'm thinking of starting a band (I play guitar) :eek:. I've learned something already, songwriting is actually quite a hard thing to do but, I think i've come up with some reasonable lyrics. These lyrics are aimed at the alt rock/metal genre. I've only come up with the lyrics so far, but hopefully when I can record from my guitar to my pc there should be some stuff that you can hear. Anyway here are the lyrics, see what you think.

 

Verse

There was a time,

when I was free from

All this pain and suffering,

but now it seems that i'm stricken

And can't find an end to all this grief.

i like it even with the made up melody in my head. probably lengthen your chorus a bit more.

That's quite good :) i'm listening to my favorite bands (there in the genre that the lyrics are written for) to try and influence my musical writing and that has now been added, cheers :thumbsup:.

Nice lyrics, but you should sort a chord progression first, I'm in a band writing original material, and Ideally a set of lyrics fit the music, not the other way around. what style of music will it be played to?

This is going to be Alt Rock/Metal most probaly Alt Rock though. Thanks for the comment ;)

what he means is make up the chords for the song. he does this in his band before they do lyrics. chords are the base of your song, then the lyrics. you sort what key, all that stuff. have you researched it E.G google?

Yeah I know all about that stuff, i''m no expert though, but I have stuff to help me if I ever get stuck and I know someone who has been playing for 20 or so years to help out if needed.
