Probably just as useful to press T and type about the lag in-game (even if playing solo) where Devin can read it later and save this thread for more interesting discussion :)
-
Well to be fair there shouldn't be any lag with a new world. I'm uploading now for you. :)

I don't mind, but once the new quote starts again (and I've changed the WiFi password) we should be cooking with gas again. At least by not paying for someone else's server I have all the files and can easily transfer to other computers/networks. All you really need to be able to do is setup port forwarding and a host name, and configure Java. Since no-one is using the Internet right now I'll fire it up again for those who want to brave the lag.

Good news. Discovered that my sister has left her laptop here hidden behind a couch torrenting all sorts of rubbish (and knowing her she won't have changed the preferences to prevent uploading and seeding), so that's almost unmistakably the cause of the recent lag you guys have had. Bad news is that it's put us over our monthly Internet quota, which means there's really no point in me keeping the MC server running for the next week. Download speeds are also hopelessly slow now as well. :( I do have an update map for you though

As per last time I'll do the poll ~ Tuesday/Wednesday, so you've got this weekend to get more eligible photos.

How can the small V8 be a downside when you drive that slow?

The price was always/eventually going to go down. They paid for the privilege of being an early-adopter imo. -

Auto Club Revolution developer Eutechnyx has confirmed the free-to-play PC racing game will be fundamentally re-engineered through a forthcoming update. Claimed by Eutechnyx to be a "full remodelling" of the browser-based title, Auto Club Revolution "V2.0" will add hordes of new content to the game, as well as tweak and polish existing ACR features. For example, Auto Club Revolution V2.0 - which launches on June 16th as a Closed Beta - will add Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Ruf and Subaru to the game, as well as touch up the car exteriors, interiors and overall vehicle physics. Players will also be able to view their cars in a 360 degree in-game garage. The engine sounds and audio effects will also be rebuilt from the ground up, to "deliver an authentic sound experience for full player immersion", and a new solitary game client will be adopted to "push the quality of content, and integrate new technologies that will further enhance player interaction". One of these technologies is support for the Oculus Rift peripheral. Whilst compatability for the VR headset won't be ready in time for the ACR V2.0 Closed Beta, Eutechnyx claims it's in "deep in development and currently in early experimental tests",and should be complete by the time the production-ready Oculus Rift is released later this year. Those who wish to gain access to Auto Club Revolution V2,0 will be able to do so by registering for the Closed Beta on the official Auto Club Revolution website from June 16th (existing ACR players will have automatic access to the Closed Beta). Eutechnyx will also confirmed "select new players from various regions worldwide will be admitted [to the ACR Closed Beta] in stages". No dates or time frames for the public release of Auto Club Revolution V2.0 have been disclosed by Eutechnyx at time of writing. http://www.teamvvv.com/en/news/comments/Auto-Club-Revolution-set-for-major-overhaul-on-June-16th

Codemasters has pulled the wraps off the entire selection of touring cars available in GRID Autosport. Split into eight separate categories, the sixteen tin-top racers in GRID Autosport make up a diverse range of vehicles, from tiny Mini Miglia Challenge-spec Mini Coopers to the Honda Civics and Ford Focus STs you see compete in the BTCC, and even big 'ole Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore utes from Down Under. The official announcement on the Codemasters Blog also revealed what to expect from GRID Autosport's touring car races, such as multiple-round races (like the format for the BTCC), "aggressive AI", grid sizes of up to 16 cars offline (up to 12 in online races), races with cars of comparable performance, and practice and qualifying sessions. An accompanying promo trailer for GRID Autosport's touring car discipline has also been released, and features several current drivers British Touring Car Championship (including Matt Neal, who was linked to Codemasters as a handling consultant prior to GRID Autosport's announcement) along with the previously unconfirmed Brands Hatch circuit. The trailer can be found below, along with the full list of GRID Autosport's touring cars: Cat C Touring Cars 2013 WTCC Chevrolet Cruze 2013 WTCC BMW 320 TC 2013 BTCC Ford Focus ST 2013 BTCC Honda Civic Super Utes 2007 Ford Falcon BF Ute 2013 Holden Commodore VE Ute Cat B Touring Cars 2013 Audi RS5 Touring Car 2013 Mercedes C63 AMG Super Tourers 2013 Ford Falcon FG 2013 Holden Commodore VF Cat A Touring Cars 2012 Peugeot 408 SCB 2014 ADC Presteza-14 (Editorial Note: As 'Cat A' appears to imitate the Stock Car Brazil series, it's likely this car is the SCB-spec Chevrolet Sonic) Classic Mini Cup 1970 Mini Miglia Challenge Mini Cup 2013 Mini John Cooper Works Challenge Classic Touring Car Cup 1989 Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth Group A 1991 Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R Group \ Veni Vidi Vici - Codemasters confirms GRID Autosport's full touring car roster

Here's the good news. When you delete a file, you only 'mark it for deletion'. It's still there, but Windows/Mac/Linux/DOS will completely ignore it. Download a program like Recuva and you have half a shot at recovering it. The bad news When you store new files on that HDD they overwrite files 'marked for deletion'. So installing Windows will overwrite ~8GB of these files, then there's all the extra programs you may have installed. Files are also split into fragments (unless you run defrag often) which increases the chances of part of the file being overwritten and made corrupt if you restore it. A better strategy Partition your main drive or use a second one. Use C:\ only for Windows, Programs, and Games - stuff that doesn't need to be backed up. Store all your data on the other partition/drive. Then you can format C:\ whenever you like. You just have to configure your Windows libraries and Desktop and Downloads folders to use the other drive. Regards tduck staff helping idiots since 2007 -
I'll restart the PC and see if that helps. Otherwise my ISP must be onto me. :|
-
I don't have static IP - must be changing then. Then DynDNS has to get the updated IP.
-
Not a lot I can do about it, I'm assuming others were home and using the Internet at the time. I've got all the settings back to optimal and no intensive tasks were running on the PC. Guess it'll be a luck of timing, especially for those farthest away. This setup is essentially free as well, on the last server we still had lag after a while (lots of mods and tick-based machines) despite that being paid for.

No Melbourne :( I was wondering the other week if I should try and call Ubi Australia in case they could arrange a local playtest. I think I've written enough articles to qualify as a 'gaming journalist' :hmmm: -
You should have seen the roof of your castle yesterday  I'll say no more

hmmm I was (and still am) uploading stuff to FTP so I would expect that to slow things down, I only have 0.3mbps upload speeds tops, and you are particularly far away. I could be naughty and try to run this on my work PC but I expect that it wouldn't work (firewall).
