everything good people has achieved in TDU modding is because driving with TDU1 was such a pleasure. From here motivation was born :)
 
You know, I just started in creating a little tool to convert (in quick and dirty mode) tdu textures to dds and vice versa. And I had hopes in this game.
What better than working on this (very hard sometimes), knowing that a few hours later you will be able to enjoy riding with the mates !
 
Everyone need to be rewarded for efforts. I can tell TDU1 has rewarded us so much. It's sad to say TDU2 can't in my opinion.
 
But anyway, modding need creative people with hopes and curiosity to give anything. So I'm not aiming to break anyone's hopes, just explaining why I'm working on other subjects now.
 
I won't be very far as always, hoping for a 'solid as rock TDU3 or whatever' :D

First of all its a pleasure to see you here :) ... it shows how interested you are in this kind of challenges (as you were always). Guess i am happy to see that Djey is not away !
 
I just want to say that in my opinion we should think once again in tdu2 because everything is there....and once we got that litle push we need (about the light at the end of the tunnel for physics/handling) i know that all modders together (Cars...sounds...environments...etc) would make an amazing work on remaking the "asthetic part" of the game and pack everything into 1 piece.... thats the only way to bring again everyone that used to be on this side of the forum ( wich still is the biggest motive for people register here ...Mods for tdu)
 
And trust me i know its any modder wish that this vision happens someday...create a maxive quality pack (Cars...sounds...envirments...new gadgets)
 
and we all know that tdu1 is on is very limit ... i mean theres really nothing you can improve a "lot" better than already it is right now
 
Tdu2 for now has limits but once you break them there will be tons of things to make that will keep us always motivated... Djey never though to create so many options on his tool for tdu1 when he first started ...and look the gadgets tomsolo achieved with such limitations... You can put any car at full quality/size (the same aplies for sound) on tdu2 ....
 
Even if you say that codebase is crap i still say that i bet its not that hard to figure what they did wrong ... they are just values
just look at the video of the Ps2 and tdu2... they are praticly the same handling ....however it uses the same codebase tdu1 used ...the only thing change was the values to behave more artificial.... is it just me who sees that ? maybe i am completly wrong :leaves:........ maybe i am right (i hope):...: anyway
 
This would be a hell of a challenge
So why not to change the title to TDU2: TBMP ?

Indeed... even the skillest programmer can't do much without source code :) Same as a skilled modder feels frustrated when the game does not allow anything to be modified.  
The problem in TDU2 is not something people can fix with fiddling with configuration or database... game engine (C++ very likely) is a joke, and is not even comparable to TDU1's. Physics are totally scripted... the only thing havok does is to blindly follow what the scripts tell to execute :)

I'm pretty confident you can run the server on a average PC, just requiring a good internet connection.
I remember the server had to be rebooted and service stopped regularly, to install Windows updates !
Now it's very easy to install a virtual machine running with any operating system.
 
Besides, it appeared that the link with gamespy has been broken as well. Chances are server does not depend on any 3rd party service.
 
I'd say, if we get the files, 80% of chances :)
 
 
But as you said Ryzza, if we are not able to getting those damn server binaries, that's would be the end.

TDU was far from perfect, but accent was on the most important ... driving pleasure. So bugs and crashes were not taken into consideration.
 
TDU2 has not even the main things most of people like in this kind of game.
Unlimited license is loosing its fans, I can't get enough motivation to play at it again, even if there are true modding abilities.

you can also launch TDU with changing the command line :
add the -w switch to executable command in shortcut
 
TestDriveUnlimited.exe -w
 
game will run in 1280x720 - will allow you to start and set a correct resolution. Save it then quit, finally start the game without the -w :)
