I can see one downside to replacing the person under the helmet: Skill and Ability. Notice that the white Stig was a much better driver and set faster times in general than the old black Stig?

 

IMO I don't think his identity should be revealed. Really does spoil the fun of the show.

 

Oh, and long ago I came to the conclusion that they use the same person for Power Laps, but use different people for whenever else the Stig appears. When they were building that Caterham for example, or when he appeared in the studio after setting his time on the old Liana
