An ATI Radeon HD 5770 should be good enough, they should be under budget as well, something like this:

XFX ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5

If you could stretch your budget by £10 then something like the following would be more than enough although it's not in stock until next week:

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 Extreme 1024MB GDDR5

Also keep in mind that the days of picking a graphics card based on how much memory it has are long gone. A graphics card is like a computer inside your computer - so compare the RAM, the GPU clock, and all the other specs as well. Easiest way is to use a benchmark graph.

That said, the recommended cards are both overclocked varieties that don't appear on that chart.

thanks for that little nugget of info Ryzza, all suggestions and support is appreciated. I am currently looking into the ATI suggestions and would like to inquire about the significant differences between the 2 cards gtamaddog suggested.

I'm not too good with this internal clock stuff so all help is GREATLY appreciated.

OK. Its worse now. what I assumed was a GPU issue is actually a something I don't know about issue.

On boot up the screen spews up message (Sleep mode/ Power saving), this happened even before I swapped out my card for the new HD 5750 card I just bought.

Not even the BIOS screen shows up and I'm pretty sure that it is not the monitor.

Things aren't going well for me.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I have checked all of my computer internals. I know that it has nothing to do with my HDD, CD drive or my RAM.

Take out your RAM and then boot your PC up, if it makes noises then your mobo is okay, so thats good.

If it doesn't make noises, then you're mobo is probably gone.

Also, if you have another gfx card around, even an old crappy one, try that. You could have a DOA card.

Does that card require extra PSU connections that you might be mising?

I should've meantioned this really but I was completely knackered at the time and not thinking very clearly.

Had the same thing myself when I installed my HD 5850. Plugged everything in, put the case back together and pressed the power button and the computer started but I had no video output on the monitor. So, I instantly thought "Oh, fantastic, I've been sent a dodgy card, just what I needed" followed by a lot swearing before I remembered that it needed the extra power input. Connected those up and all was well.

I need niether.

It's now confimed that my Mobo is completely knackered. My previous card needed an extra PSU connection so that was not the problem.

Sorry about taking so long to reply but getting some sort of computer to connect to the net to in my house is like trying to jump through a flaming hoop in a cactus suit.
